Coolio; thank you for the answers everyone. And I can certainly understand wanting to keep it mysterious; I was just hoping to avoid having to ask on a case by case basis regarding what works xD
Nel and I won't be home until late on Sunday, unfortunately, but once we get home hopefully we can add another smoking hulk of a former ship to the landscape and get in on the fun. xD
We're definitely not coming in the Wraith though; I don't feel like hunting down whoever owns Nubia Star Drives these days to try and purchase another J-Type 327 with all of my special modifications >.>

Well, we haven't had one of these events for a couple months, so people should have had some time to refresh themselves and come up with some new storylines to pursue for these. Maybe aim for the weekend of the 22nd of Jan? on another note, please have a read and feel free to drop your thoughts in on this thread here: boards.jedivsith.com/thread/2855/artifact-wea-erm-items

Hey I would be home for that. I would be game. The last time I had one of these I learned something. We need a smaller space than a planet, and indeed smaller than a Star Destroyer. At least in order for us all to interact. Seeing as January is the new year new me theme I have an idea. Lets make it really small. We go to Louies and we are all just random patrons at the bar. From there we can spread out into the city, or stay in the bar. Keep it nice and simple, no fancy rules, no weird places. Just a bunch of weary travellers looking to get a cool drink on a scorching planet.

While no main goal involved, it would be a way for characters to interact without pushing to get to a certain goal and no particular person trying to manage the story in any way. And something like can easily carry on for some time without much concern with a time frame.

seems like a pretty solid idea. and on top of that, probably a lot easier for more people to get in on the idea.

I know the last one I was involved in had about 10 people but there was little interaction due to the size

I'm not sure it has much to do with size. Our most successful one, the derelict ship event, had about eight fully active writers. We had a good solid four or five days before we ran out of steam.
I think it has more to do with timing of offline lives. Our last attempt didn't work well because there were only about four people with open schedules. Polling for dates and time slots before we start can help with that, as I believe we've done in the past.

This is sort of out of the blue but why not give locations throughout the galaxy a status much like the traffic light system? Certain locations that can be expendable, preferably places that have not seen much role play in a while. So that would mean anything could happen to the location itself and not to an individual who would prefer that their character remain alive. If two opposing forces want to plan a massive war, it could happen on a 'no mans land' planet where someone could have the chance to raise an entire city to rubble to stir things up in the war.
Even set in guidelines much like the guidelines to invading a planet. Obviously no one would want a single person to come in and destroy an entire city or a large portion of it for no reason, or even go on a killing spree killing thousands of civilians. To avoid that, the degree of chaos would depend on how many people are involved. Say a massive RP involves two of the biggest factions, only something like that could result in an entire city being raised to rubble. It's just an idea i had floating around in my head for an hour or two so it's not built on much.

Say a massive RP involves two of the biggest factions, only something like that could result in an entire city being raised to rubble. I think with a little more development and discussion, something like this might be worth a try. I've seen other RP websites utilize this idea successfully. Of course, they had ten times the amount of traffic JvS has, and right now, a good chunk of the writers here are tied up in their big war. I'd hate to let the SpontRP idea die completely, but it doesn't seem like many writers are available for something like this right now. Unless we wouldn't mind a small group? Nothing wrong with small. We could table Rackham's genius idea, work on it over the next few months, and in the meantime try a smaller scale, simpler SpontRP like the Tatooine Tavern idea. No plot, no plans, no pressure, just drinks and chaos. (Because you know SOMEONE'S gonna pull out a blaster or a lightsaber and shit's gonna hit the fan within six posts.) Something easy to pass the time.

well yeah, exactly, like, these things dont necessarily have to have like 15 people signing up for them to go ahead. It's about getting people who are available together to shoot the breeze, or admire Lia's ass I know my last attempt to organize this failed, but maybe this time we can be more vigilant. We've got a setting, already, so what are people feeling date wise? Do we wanna organize it for this month? or next month? as far as John's idea is concerned, I know we have a somewhat similar system already in place with Tatooine? Basically it's an anything goes all year round kind of place and was apart of the Blue Light Planet's project we did. But I do agree it would be nice to have some more locations that are tagged as SpontRP area's for war zones where people could just blue shit up and not really have to worry a whole lot. Perhaps people could suggest some places they think might be good, and others might like to volunteer their cities for this? It should be noted, that a lot of this stuff can technically happen in the Open Orbit and Open Terrain threads as is, but it might be nice to have something a little more 'official' I suppose you could say?

Well, don't we already have a rule that if a planet hasn't seen any activity in 3 months, it's pretty much fair game for whatever may happen?

There are currently three worlds with that. Tatooine, Dressel, and Aaragu.
As for abandonment then yes there is a rule were a person can come in and "seize" a planet. Of course due to the number of planets here and the lack of RPers there are always a bunch ready for the taking.

I shall do a quick check in, but how does this weekend sound? The last idea suggested was everyone on Tat starting out at Louie's Tavern.

This weekend? I can be there in some form, although it'll be spotty activity (I think. Who knows, plans here change faster than showgirls).

I would be willing to jump into some RP at some point if anyone is interested. Feel free to let me know, we can discuss it or we can just go with the flow.

Oh, woah, it's the weekend?
Should we try for next weekend instead? Maybe make a poll or an announcement or something?
