Hey there, Welcome to JvS

I'll try to answer your questions to the best of my abilities and if i miss anything or get anything wrong i'm sure that one of others will mention it/correct me.

1: you should make a character then join ask to join an rp, that way other people can read your profile and get an idea of what kind of person your character is. If you need help with creating a character i suggest following link this is a step by step for creating a character.

2: As for planets, certain ones are controlled by factions, for example Iridonia is controlled by the Blackguard(Sith Faction). To Rp there a quick pm to the faction head, or a post in the factions rp planning thread. For classes, I'm pretty sure that's a personal choice and how you want them to be like in combat and or out. For example This character is a gunslinger/outlaw/smuggler, I have another character that's a Sith juggernaut. If I missed anything about classes, I'm sure an RPA could answer it better.

3: Rps can be from anywhere from a solo rp to a group rp, which depending on the storyline can range from anywhere between two people to two whole factions or even a site wide rp.

When it comes to whether you create your character first or if you build it as you write. That’s up to you man. You can jump in and start writing or build a meticulously crafted profile first. What ever floats your boat.

JvS, unlike a few other sites, is all located based RP. So threads represent a location within the JvS universe. That doesn’t mean that a place doesn’t exist because it doesn’t have a thread though.
Where classes come into it... as has been mentioned, they’re more just a flavour thing. It doesn’t impact anything, just gives everyone else an idea of what kind of character you write.

As to the size of RPs, they vary in size. You can do 1 on 1 or group SLs of varying size. Just all depends on what you prefer to write.

As many have already said, when starting, its really up to you whether to have a fleshed out character or want to build one through rp. If you wish to start with the bottom, its at least a good idea to have a name, race, decide whether they're Force-sensitive or not, and perhaps a little bit of a back story to give you something going in. Sometimes people don't know exactly what they're looking for and it gets flesh out on the boards. Sometimes they have some decent history, and some, Like Luxeria here, start at the bottom but have a plan for what they want to achieve.

As for classes, there are none. No dice rolling to decide certain attributes. It's as simple as picking a race, gender, and what role you'd think you enjoy. Here, you may find interesting combinations and sometimes the plain stupid for no other point than people felt like having random fun. The key is to run with something you'd like to do. If you have a question about if a character will work a certain way, just ask and we'll help you out.

Storylines here can ranged from planned, to scripted, to spontaneous and random, ranging from solo rp to large groups that could involve the whole site. We look to get everyone involved and build stories with all you can to give you the best experience from friendly encounters to war.

When it comes to finding out who may run a planet, you can check out the planetary guides so you don't wander somewhere and get in character threats of destruction. Also a good rule of thumb when going to a planet is seeing over a couple pages if there is mention of a fleet. If you get an idea of where you want to go, some order/factions to get in contact with are The First Order, The Jedi Order, The Blackguard Reborn/Sith, the Jensaarai, or even check out some of the smuggler and pirate crews in the Planning Boards.

JvS operates in the Legacy Era and beyond of the Star Wars Legends Universe (meaning from the end of most Legends Canon events and beyond. Some people write around 30/35ABY while others aim for like 150ABY and beyond).
That said, while we operate in the Legends Universe, we do copy over elements from Disney Canon for use here where it doesn’t conflict with Legends.


As far as Factions go, Luxeria mentioned most of the major ones. The First Order is the big Imperial Faction right now, with the Knights of Ren within them. The Blackguard are gaining power for the Sith. The Galactic Alliance is on the back heel and transitioning towards a series of splinter governments, some of which will have Jedi Order support, others will have the Jensaarai.
I believe the ones to be on the lookout for are the Tapani Empire, the Grand Confederacy Reborn, the Corellian Alliance (and to a lesser extent, the FedDub).
