Hey guys first of all neat I can create a thread here. Are we the public allowed to do this? Was this an oversite and did I find a flaw in the Whills flawlessness? If so you are welcome now fix it. Even if its not well still neato. Back to the point at hand. "There was an idea to bring together a group of remarkable people to see if we could become something more, so when they needed us we could fight the battles that they never could." Forgive the quote, I thought it was fitting and it probably won't be the last if I'm being honest. - New people, we don't have the flow we used to and the ones that do come are here for a very short time most of the time. We need to figure out why and how we can fix it. Perhaps they don't feel as welcome as they used to.
Im not going to let Ades post and all the great points on it die. So let me jump right in on the biggest one in my mind. Fresh meat. New players/writers/gamers/whatever you want to call them. I would like to open this conversation to the RPA, the Whills, and the community at large. First of all, lets start it out with how you first found the site? From there lets as a group think up ways that would bring in new people be it from past experiences from other sites, or something new. For me personally I joined the Facebook app AFTER 1.5 was created and I stayed there for a LONG time with the community there (it was even smaller there than here and to this day I am still in contact with some of those people) where we would compete amoungst us for the highest knowledge and strength even having tournaments amoungst ourselves. It was a blast. Then I started RPing in the council chambers there which eventually led to 1.5. I was greeted by Gabriel Solomon and the rest is history. As for bringing in new meat for the grinder, thats my short fall. I don't even think people use Facebook apps like Farmville or JvS anymore, or at least I dont get notifications for them anymore but if someone can prove me wrong boy I would love it. I do like the JvS Facebook page with its memes and stuff. I imagine if it got bigger and better creating JvS memes AND regular Star Wars ones (or sharing previously created ones) it could help as the sites link is on the page. It would need a lot of work and reaching critical mass before being a benefit though. Word of mouth works but lets be honest here we are all geeky nerds who play a text based roleplaying Star Wars game online we don't have any friends. Those of us that do though, it doesn't seem to bring in enough people though. I don't pretend to know how advertising works but I feel like that is an option, even free advertising on other sites if thats a thing. Thats my rant over, feel free to add and help or just laugh and call me dumb its okay.

First of all I think since the word Questions is in the title of this sub-board I assume the ability to make posts was intentional. Secondly I like this idea of seeing how people found us in the first place to examine what we can do to find more people. Personally my story isn't too dissimilar from yours, although it happened a bit earlier. I found the app that lead me to the RP section (which was still on FB at the time) and then I followed the Corellian's around as their annoying little brother until 1.5 opened. I imagine a few different people will have similar stories from the app, although I don't know how feasible that sort of thing is anymore, although maybe someone who has a better idea about that sort of thing might have a better idea about it, or have a better idea.
As for my own thoughts about how we can bring in new people, I'm really not sure, advertising is a beast I'm completely unfamiliar with, and to be quite honest is a little outside my comfort zone. It might not be a bad idea to have a group of people established as "ambassadors" to spearhead advertising though, at least once we have some ideas of what they could do.

Indeed, Mr Frantz is right (for once). This area is open for anyone and everyone to post threads with questions or ideas. It is not limited solely to the use of the Advocates. This project is, after all, meant for us to see what you want changed and work towards getting those changes made.
As for how I found JvS? I stumbled across the app some time ago on Facebook and returned to it one day to find a galaxy had suddenly sprung into existence. There are still a few game apps on Facebook, but developing something for Facebook and getting it on there would require both someone with the time and skill to do it. However, yes, we still do have that JvS group on there.
As far as an advertising effort goes. It does exist, and is a project that the RPA may be undertaking (I believe I can say that publicly). The big plans we had for the project, included finding advertising database boards, visiting sites of similar content and doing a link exchange program, and trying to get some meme content for the Facebook page. At this stage, I believe I am still heading that up, so if anyone is interested in getting in on the team, shoot me a PM or post here letting me know you're interested in helping out.

A good fan page can get people liking it, with enough shares then slipping in an occasional post about the rp boards could generate some interest.
You just need a few admins that will regularly share funny and interesting star wars stories/news to keep the page going and generating new followers.

So, my wife and I are marketers, and we've had some experience building website traffic for businesses. I have some opinions based on previous experience that may work to build the traffic this site needs.
First, get a Facebook group for the site. Make sure it's moderated and puts out quality content as often as possible. Facebook has some specific algorithms in play, but I think that a few moderators can keep the rabble in check while outputting the right stuff to get attention.
Second, all active players join the group page
Third, reach out to former writers and get them to join. We're building a base here.
Fourth, get a Content plan for the page with about 10 to 15 automated posts a month with topics ranging from how to be a better writer to Star Wars reviews, images, videos, and post highlights. Set these posts up at the beginning of the month, with mods adding content throughout as things happen.
Fifth, monetize with Amazon affiliates. Link to SW swag that the community would like. A little bit would go a long way here.
Sixth, use the money earned to buy ads on FB linking to the group page. FB ad spend is scarily refined, which is something we can use to our advantage. Refine it down to "writers" in "Kansas city" who like "Star Wars" and age "18 - 30" just as an example. Save up and run ads on SW specific days.
And it's important to note that the 5th and 6th steps are optional. I have seen pages grow a thousand visits each month with a substantial content plan on an FB page alone (our mileage may vary). Just remember, you have to spend money to make money sometimes.
Example. One of the clients we work with had a customer with a $1000 ad spend budget for the month, but someone forgot to change it from week to month. What they got was a dozen leads and hundreds of page Likes and thousands of views in a week. They made back that grand easy; they were still mad though!
Anyway, that's all I have for now. Sorry for any grammar errors, cell phone excuse. I'll edit this in the morning.

I DID have a question about we go about getting involved with other people who have formed groups without interrupting any of the status quo lol.
I didn't know if there were specific planning threads we'd have to go to if we just wanted to spitball something.....

If you are interested in simply spit-balling something, post a new thread here: ---> Storyline Planning
Let people know what you are looking for and give a general outline for what you had in mind and you may be surprised as to where it leads you.

It's difficult for me to say exactly when I found my way to the site, but suffice it to say that I was an early joiner. Came in on the original FB app that started out as a quiz bowl, started out as a Sith, worked my way up to "Sith Lord" ranking, and was toying around on the app one day when a friend of mine informed me about the "Universe". Suddenly, that world was opened up to me. I searched through the forums until I found something of a starting spot, began posting, and the rest is nostalgic history.
As for ideas regarding recruitment and advertising, I believe Dees said it best. There's a lot to be gained from maintaining the FB page and getting fresh content out there for people to digest. Maybe even an RP spotlight, showcasing the different RP's currently taking place and offering a synopsis for them. I also think it's important to point out that we have to approach this content and its dissemination from a fresh perspective when we're writing it, as though the person who will be reading it is doing so for the first time. Possibly having a pinned post dictating who we are and what we are all about is a must, if it hasn't been done already.
I may have more to contribute to this later. If so, I'll jump back in and edit this post. Y'all have a nice day now, y'hear?

Hey. So I'm new and I'm not entirely sure where I'm meant to post this but I have a couple of questions. Firstly, where should I actually ask my questions? I mean that would be helpful to know xD Secondly, so my character is named Tala Vale (basically my screen name I guess) and I want her to become a Padawan and learn the ways on the force. Basically I'm imagining sh's currently an initiate at one of the temples waiting for a Master. She is 16 but I can make her younger if it would make more sense. I also don't have much of a background for her yet as I don't currently know if her character will work and if it's OK. But, how do I go about getting her a Master? And are there Jedi's on this site that would be willing to train her IC through RPing? Thanks very much for reading this and maybe answering, any information you can tell me will be greatly appreciated, Tala

Also, if you have Discord, JvS has a server you can access through the Discord (Chat) link up the top of the site. As for where you should ask questions, that largely depends what your questions are. But a good way is to just create a thread in the Questions and Discussions area. Just click on "Create Thread" and put any questions you might have together. From there, one of the RolePlay Advocates, or a Databank Operator, or just about anyone else should be around shortly thereafter to lend a hand answering anything they can.
