Once Walker had taken the datapad and exited the warehouse, Ben could help but smile at the feat he had accomplish in the short amount of time. He would wait a a while before he headed back to the station, because the truth of matter was that the Sector Rangers didn't even know about Walker and they never would. Ben would close the case with some sort of lie that the suspect from the bar left the city before he could question him and that incident at the apartment building was the work of a rival crime boss. His superiors at the Rangers would buy it with little to no evidence at the sense to suggest other wise. Ben would miss the enticement of tracking down Walker because now it was back to business as usual, until he was told other wise from The Illusionist. Ben exited the warehouse and hoped into his speeder and took off to his safe house so that he could alter the footage of the bar fight.

Clan Australis had returned to their former home. Large bulk transports arrived in orbit and began launching atmosphere capable freighters groundward. Loaded with goods and construction materiel, as well as the necessary engineers and security forces, the landings began in earnest as soon as they were deployed.
The bulk transports were escorted by Starviper fighters and sleek MandalMotors built Bes'uliik strike craft.
Hyllyard City was not a large town, more of a frontier one, and Clan Australis knew the place well. Kaine had ensured the Clan had purchased some land on the edge of the city, with warehouses and plenty of room to expand their facility. Freighters began landing and disgorging their contents, so that construction could begin immediately.
Clan Australis commandos that accompanied the construction crews formed into patrol groups, and began to fan out and form a security perimiter around the Clan's new holdings. They were equipped with the finest technology credits could buy, married to the excessive firepower MandalArms was known for.

Finding a path between two descending freighters, Vevut slipped his D-5 Mantis patrol craft into a descent pattern towards Hyllyard City, and the new base.
He had his own mission to accomplish here on Myrkr. The view from above was different to what he remembered. Hyllyard was in the same place, and about the same size as before. It never changed, and that made him smile, until he got lower and noticed the great monstrosity of a building project taking place at one end of Hyllyard.
His father's work, no doubt. A mountain built by the hands of Mandalorian and droid, the home base for the Clan of Australis. Vevut had to admit it was impressive, even if he found it horribly ostentatious compared to the far more subtle bunker complex he'd argued for.
He pulled up the plans, the real ones, not the official ones, and saw that the complex stretched deep into the forest, and far underground. Tunnelling works were still underway, stretching transport links out across Myrkr to outposts surrounding Hyllyard City. So, they had been listening to him after all.
The craft landed without fanfare at a berth in the City's civilian spaceport. Clad in his black and green beskar'gam, Vevut exited the ship. A handful of commandos were lounging around, pretending not to have been waiting for him.
He wondered why, until one of them spoke in his helmet's comlink.
Chief. Good to see you're not dead. (In Mando'a.)
So, they assumed he was his father. They were about the same height though Vevut, being younger, hadn't quite filled out. Their colour scheme was very similar, as was their combat loadout. He decided to play along, trying to match his father's voice and mannerisms.
Su'cuy vode. He nodded like Kaine. They seemed to accept his identity without question, and he realised it was probably because he'd landed using Kaine's overrides. They'd be expecting orders. He decided to give some.
How's the playground coming? He asked, using the name for the extensive training facility and linked fortifications that stretched miles out into Myrkr's Great Northern Forest.
We've finished the initial placement of the sensor and comms net. The whole area won't be fully complete for years, but we can start using the training grounds in two weeks.
The Mando, a male Vevut didn't know, spoke proudly, as if that was good news, so he accepted it as such, not knowing the full details of the project. He was fairly sure his father wouldn't either.
Good work. I'm headed for a meet. See you at the Clanhall after.
That got rid of them, Kaine always bought the drinks for his vode, and they hurried away. Vevut, alone now, headed into Hyllyard's nightlife, to see a man about a droid.
He got some looks, but his continous pace meant he wasn't bothered further, and he soon found a cantina near the meeting spot to wait for his contact. Taking off the helmet would have spoiled the illusion, so he settled for ordering a juice and sipping from a straw at an outside table.
The atmosphere was buzzing, it was the end of the working week, early evening, not too cold, and people were out and about. Night markets were common in Hyllyard in Vevut's memory, and they seemed to be active. He saw families and children as well as Mando'ade among the beings moving through the streets. It wasn't too crowded, but for Hyllyard this was busy. Commerce was alive and well, which also boded well for the locals.

Just as Vevut was finishing his juice and thinking about ordering another, as he watched the foot traffic pass by his table, his comlink pinged twice. Proximity notification. That meant his contact was close.
The youngest of the Australis siblings looked up and around. He saw a human male in brown leathers look his way. The man wore a red neck sash, and was coming in his direction.
That would be the contact, then. Vevut sat and waited while the contact came over and sat across from him. Before he could say anything, the man smiled, and then shimmered with the unmistakeable visual haze of a holoshroud being deactivated. In his place sat a smiling blue Twi'lek female.
Vevut sagged visibly. He was done. His father's intelligence chief had caught him red handed.
The twi'lek was actually a modified HRD who was programmed with the personality matrix of a real being; the real Cerani, now lost to the Clan. The droid functioned effectively as a replacement, even as she made those who had known Cerani uncomfortable.
I was just going to inspect the new facilities. Vevut began.
Cerani, as with her namesake, wasn't buying.
You were going to interfere with things. You have too much of your father in you. She wagged a finger.
Vevut, as with Kaine, didn't see what he did as interfering. That didn't mean it wasn't interfering, of course. Cerani went on.
Now, we can rectify the gaping hole in our security, or. She paused. You can tell me why you wanted a HRD.
So, she knew why he was on Myrkr, too. She really was as good as the real Cerani when it came to gathering accurate intelligence. Kaine had chosen well, it seemed. Vevut came clean.
To be honest, you. Buir has you, I thought I would have one.
Cerani's smile became mischevious. You have one now.
Vevut didn't like the sound of that.
You work directly for me, you keep your security clearance, and all the privileges that come with it.
No, he did not like the sound of that.
I'm not going to be a soldier all my life. Like Buir, he didn't say.
I don't need another soldier. She put it bluntly enough. That was true, and the young Australis softened a little. Maybe this wouldn't work out so badly.
Alright. Vevut didn't bother asking questions. Security and Intelligence work meant you got told what you needed to know, when and if you needed to know it. He was young, but not completely naive to how that aspect of the galaxy functioned, having grown up in the Australis household.
Cerani passed a data chit across the table. Vevut took it. His HUD scanned the chit, and his eyes widened behind the T-Visor as he saw where he was going and what he would be doing. Not soldiers' work, to be sure, but not boring either. He nodded.
Got it. The chit included comm frequencies and reporting time windows. All he needed to accomplish the mission was there. And no one else, most especially and importantly his old man Kaine knew about his security breach.
Cerani stood, and Vevut stood with her. Oh, and Vevut?
He turned. It's better if you assume I know everything.
That sent a chill down his spine, but he reassured himself that she was on their side, and settled for a nod. Then he turned and headed for his ship, surprised at the way this day had gone, but not totally disappointed with how it had turned out.
On the way to the spaceport, he noticed that there seemed to be a visible security presence on the streets. Not heavy by any stretch, but a sign that Myrkr was a safe place for those who followed the laws.
Reaching his berth, Vevut climbed back into the D-5 and began setting up for the trip.

Cerar Kandosii began to take shape in Hyllyard City. A mountainous fortress stretching into the forests and jungles of Myrkr. A private spaceport now allows Clan Australis to bring in personnel and cargo without needing to use the civilian spaceport in Hyllyard. Heavy transports and military vessels are a continuous stream to and from the fortress, which is still well under construction.
Supervising all of this is Kaine's intelligence chief, Cerani, who quietly oversees the final construction works.

Construction work on the Playground and Cerar Kandosii continues apace. The Castle-like building forms the main administrative complex on the edge of Hyllyard City. From there, it backs onto the wilds of Myrkr, from where extensive works have been carried out on the ground, and under it, to produce the beginnings of the fortifications and training area that is intended to cover a large area.
Tunnelling works have cleared out areas for underground bunkers and transport networks, something essential to holding out during a siege of the world. Clan Australis likes to be prepared, and the defences are being prepared to engage a direct, large-scale assault. With supplies and fortifications stretching into the jungles, and underground, protected from bombardment from space by shields; the Clan would be able to hold out for far longer than under other circumstances.
The transport links are deep tunnels which will be bored to connect the shield bunkers via turbocar. With the ability to move troops and supplies underground between these areas, the Clan's defence will be given further depth, and ability to resist any assault. Cerani keeps track of the work and oversees the security that oversee the physical work itself. Many engineers and contractors are working on the various civil and military contracts that the Clan has offered out. Credits flow through Hyllyard City as workers bring their business to the locals.

Training was a large part of any military force, and with Myrkr's new status as the home of Clan Australis, the base of Cerar Kandosii and the Playground had already begun to run through its first lots of training cadres. Every level was accounted for; from raw recruits that would serve in the militias of the planetary garrisons, or the Clan's Foreign Legion, or the Vegemite Dragoons, the basic level, to the advanced ori'rami'kade training of the Vegemite and Clan Commandos.
The Playground itself extended well beyond Hyllyard City, giving the warriors space to play with heavy ordnance and vehicles well outside the City. Training was ongoing, and the processes were overseen by experts in all aspects of warfare, handpicked by the upper echelons of Clan Australis, some including Kaine himself. Snipers honed their skills on long range courses, while endurance training took in long jungle marches. Commandos practiced ambushes on unsuspecting recruits, and sometimes on one another. Vehicle crews too, got their training on Myrkr, with many areas suitable for deployment of even the heaviest artillery and command vehicles.

Kaine sat in the conference chamber at the back of the Clanhall in Hyllyard City, around a table fitted with holotransmitters and holocams for a group meeting from across the stars. In front of him was a briefing folder marked 'I.R.I.' which he'd read through three times now. Completed by some of his most talented and experienced advisors, it was their proffered solution to the security of the Inner Rim with the immiment collapse of the Corellian Confederation and the impending hegemony of the First Order.
Holograms around the table flickered to life one by one, as envoys from each of the invited worlds came online. It was a minor miracle to have gained at least the attention of so many planets at once, though none of those invited were invested with any diplomatic authority. They were here to listen, and to carry back the message to their leaders.
For many years we have seen through many examples that strength comes from a multitude of voices brought together in common cause, like minded beings forming communities. In that spirit, we are here to propose the creation of a new alliance based on mutual cooperation and respect. An alliance born in the diverse voices of many worlds joined by their desire to build a better future, and their decision to voluntarily recognize a common authority.
This new alliance will help less-advanced worlds improve their conditions. It will encourage better relations between our races and promote free trade. Above all, it will work to create peace. This is a political and economic alliance, not one based on military strength. The gains you will achieve by working peacefully with other races far outweigh anything you might achieve by force.
The alliance recognizes your sovereign right to govern your own people by your own will. But membership in the alliance means that you will honor a code of conduct in your relations with other worlds or risk losing all the things we stand to give you. Finally, each member world will be able to contribute volunteers to join the IRI's independent military force, known as the Protectors, thereby assuring their independence and fairness.
I now invite you to join the new alliance. You may decline, if that is your wish. We will leave in peace and honor your decision. If you accept, we believe it will signal a new age of peace and prosperity.
The Inner Rim Imperium was now a real proposal, placed on the table for the other worlds to review and debate among themselves. Even if it failed, Kaine felt that he had at least made the effort to create a strong but peaceful presence to protect the Inner Rim.

Creating an interstellar government, even a loose alliance of worlds such as the Inner Rim Imperium, was more work than one being could handle alone. The original proposals had been drawn up by experts in their fields. Many details were yet to be worked out, though the immense process of transitioning the myriad worlds and interests into a unified effort had begun.
One of the first administrative tasks was to form the inaugural High Council. Each world was to nominate a representative, and this process was different for each of the planets involved. Some worlds had a sole ruler or head of state who would delegate the task to an official. Other worlds would follow a more democratic process to select their representative. A few, such as Manaan, took the process less than seriously.
The first representatives to the IRI High Council included a priest from Kiffu, a bartender from Manaan, a Mandalorian from Myrkr, a Librarian from Obroa-Skai, a Bacta merchant from Thyferra, and a Madam from Zeltros. The League of Minor worlds, representing worlds such as Bogden and Taanab, had elected a Jedi Master to be their representative on the council. Seven beings who would oversee the formation of the Inner Rim Imperium, and select a leader from among their number to function as Chief of State.

Forewarned by planetary security in orbit regarding the incoming damaged starfighter, the local firefighting corps in Hyllyard City was put on alert. With the projected crash zone identified by plotting the fighter's trajectory, the ready-alert duty firefighting team was dispatched with haste to the area.A two being team aboard a modified cargo lifter headed out to the potential fire zone, two humans, one male, one female. Their firefighting unit was basic but functional, a large tank filled with pressurized flame retardant, a high powered pump, and a hose. Natasha, the female, was in charge, and lovingly maintained her equipment. Boris, a hulking example of a male, had just finished installing a deck gun on the forward hull.I don't know why you put that there. It blocks the view from the bow, you know.Captain, we armed now, we as a combat unit. We go on duty, we draw combat pay!Boris. We are firefighters. We do not get combat pay. Are you going to shoot at the fire? No, don't answer that, you are a very stupid man. When we get back, you will take down that deck gun.Slowly but surely, the heavy repulsors drowned out Boris's grumbling as they carried the barge-like contraption out up and over Hyllyard's outskirts, and towards the area known to Clan Australis as "The Playground". Normally civilians avoided the area, but the Mandos didn't have their own firefighting units, and they didn't want to see whole swathes of their jungle burned to ash. Even as the incoming fighter streaked down into Myrkr's atmosphere, the firefighters were on their way.Tarfang

Teebo's T-wing streaked through the atmosphere like a fiery comet, leaving a smoking contrail in its wake, along with bits of super-heated hull that broke off as it continued its downwards descent towards the jungle. Inside the cockpit it was humid, the air heated thanks to the atmospheric resistance on the exterior of the ship, as well from the still smoking navi-computer, and finally from the acidic contents of the ewoks stomach. He felt like he was in a blender, the starfighter continuing to spin uncontrollably thanks to the one remaining engine. Boom! A small explosion barely muffled by the shriek of wind rushing past the hull let the unlucky pirate know his last engine had gone to.
=Teebo= "I...can't....believe....it is...gunna...end...this way!" He struggled to say through gritted teeth. "At least...there is...still time...for...one...last drink."
The g-forces of his uncontrolled descent squeezed the tiny furry bear into his seat, yet he found just enough strength to lean forwards, attempting to reach the flask that had caused all of these problems to begin with. Straining, he caught hold of the drink container and raised it in his furry paw, only to have it slide out thanks to the slimy puke covering just about everything. He fought for control of the flask, but every time he tried to grab the container it simply slipped out, shooting out of his fingers to strike a button on the canopy ceiling. As it happened, that was the control for the ejection seat. The starfighter's canopy opened and was torn away by the wind as the safety seals released. Still spinning, Teebo and his puke covered seat were launched out of the T-wing side-ways, barely two hundred feet above the thick jungle canopy of the Playground. The wounded starfighter streaked into the jungle and exploded on impact, smashed to ribbons by trees and showering the lush fauna with ignited fuel.
End over end Teebo and his seat went, until finally the chute deployed just above the tree line, slamming the tiny ewok against his restraints as the the umbrella shape caught the air, then immediately tore from the force and dropped him down into the trees. Branches snapped and swatted his furry face, while the parachute straps snagged on the branches and pulled taut. A final jerk shook the ewok as his seat settled in the trees, hanging a few hundred feet from the jungle floor below. He blinked his eyes and patted his furry chest.
He was alive? By all the ewok maidens in Bright Tree Village, he was alive!
Teebo looked over the side, staring down at the perilous distance below, feeling something uncomfortable wedged against his furry butt. He reached behind his rump and wrapped a paw around a metallic object, bringing it out in front of his confused eyes and then smiling wildly. His flask! The jettison from the T-wing must have wedged it in his seat. Grinning, he unscrewed the lid and brought the container to his lips, preparing to imbibe a healthy portion...when it slipped from his grip, still slick with sick stomach grease. The flask fell the length of the distance to the jungle floor below, while all Teebo could do was stare in sad disbelief.

The explosion and fireball was rather pretty, Natasha thought to herself as she steered the firefighting barge in towards the hot zone. She kept a close eye on Boris as he tended the hoses, sending longing looks towards his ridiculous deck gun on the bow of the barge. They had a job to do, and she knew she had to keep the idiot on task. The barge flew in low over the smoking crash site, and Natasha yelled before pulling a lever to start the pumps.Away foam!Pushed through the hoses by the pumps, the huge tanks of pressurized foam began to empty over the flaming jungle where the fightercraft had crashed. The firefighting crew were only two, and concentrating on their jobs, they had missed the pilot's ejection, so they were unaware there was a living being in the area they were beginning to blanket with wet fire suppressant foam. Boris was singing to himself as he played the hose out over the side of the barge, but Natasha saw the longing looks, and was not fooled by the display. She concentrated on steering the firefighting unit but didn't let her colleague out of her sight.Tarfang

Disappointed about his flask but still grateful to be alive, Teebo looked around his surroundings, pondering how best exactly to get out of this latest predicament. He was strapped into his ejection seat still, which was hanging over a perilous drop to the jungle floor below, supported only by the straps of his survival chute that were snagged on the upper canopy of the jungle ceiling. He looked down between his furry legs, gulping as he thought about the squashed 'wok he'd become if he fell. He then looked up at the taught straps.
Too much movement might see them come loose and plunge him towards an unpleasant death. He'd need to move carefully.
First things first, he unbuckled himself from the seat, holding on to the fabric of the ejection chair tightly as it swayed nerve rackingly forward and backwards. Slowly, as cautiously as a young wokling trying to borrow his family's paraglider without being noticed, he stood up and turned around in the seat. Stretching, he reached up and took hold of the straps. Unlike everything else the parachute cords at least weren't covered in a greasy film of vomit. He gripped the straps tightly and began to climb up into the tree tops. Fortunately this was just the sort of thing his people excelled at. Sure, wookiees were just as capable, but they were also three times the size and incredibly strong. It was much more impressive when an ewok did it. Carefully Teebo worked his way through the tops of the trees, moving in the direction of the smoke that was wafting his way.
He had no idea where he was so whatever was left of his ship might be the only equipment to be found. The idea of being trapped on a strange planet with no tools was not very appealing.
As he reached the end of one branch, he spotted a vine hanging from another, suspended over the ground and just out of reach. He took one step back, bracing himself against the trunk of the tree he was on, then took a step forwards and leapt with his arms extended outwards. Forest born agility and no small amount of luck saw his furry paws grasp the vine and hold tight, swinging him from one tree to the next, where he found another vine. He repeated this action several times as he neared the site of his downed stafighter. He swung to another tree just before the scorched clearing, hugging the top of the tree as he looked down and scrunched up his face in an ewok version of a scowl. There wasn't enough of his ship left to even sell for scrap. Motion below caused him to edge back around the trunk of the tree, stepping from one branch to another. He peered around the corner and down below, spotting what looked like a repulsor barge outfitted with fire-suppression equipment. Two humanoids appeared to be dousing the blaze with fire-retardant foam, though he was less interested in that as he was with their repulsor skiff.
An idea formed in his scheming mind.

Boris continued to play his fire hose around the area below the firefighting barge, spraying retardant foam over the crash site, to both smother the existing fire and prevent it from spreading to Myrkr's verdant jungles and forests. Smoke billowed up from the crash, and the misty fog of the retardant foam created clouds over the crash site.Natasha watched her crewman doing his work, and caught him checking to see if he was being watched more than once. Yes, he wanted to play with the damned ridiculous deck gun, alright. She did not intend to give him a moment's free time.Keep your eyes on your work, Boris! She should have been watching the barge's movements, ensuring it kept clear of any hazards or snags this close to the surface, but she was preoccupied with supervising her idiot crewman. The barge drifted lazily across the crash site, Boris's efforts dealing with the danger of the fire. Boris sang to himself as he worked, pretending he wasn't looking for the first chance he got to play with his deck gun before that damnable Natasha made him get rid of it.Tarfang

Scheme formulated, Teebo knew he was only going to get one chance at this. Best to make it count.
Coming out from behind the tree trunk, he grabbed hold of a vine he was fairly certain would carry him all the way to the barge, just a few more seconds and it would drift where he needed it to...go! He leapt from the tree, arms tensing and muscles straining as he swung through the air towards the fire barge. The larger of the two firefighters was greasing the blaze by spraying foam over the side of the skiff. Teebo engaged his core and lifted his two short furry legs as he picked up speed, hoping to deliver a flying kick into Boris' backside.

The Alor of Clan Australis was in a foul mood, though he had little real reason to be so. He was sat at a holodesk inside Cerar Kandosii in his small private office, lights low, and blank walls providing no distractions.
His reason for being irritated was a battle going on out there, and he hadn't been invited, for the first time ever, the next generation of the Aliit was leading the line. Against orders, to boot. He was proud of the little swine, even as he dealt with the fallout of the lack of military discipline. Kaine had read through a stern complaint from Admiral Flash, and three separate missives from König about Reyn specifically. Kaine decided then and there to promote his son to General by way of punishment. König, not the disobedient and soon to be reassigned to ground forces Reyn.
There was no report of how the battle at Obroa-Skai was going, though Reyn's cruiser would have to have arrived and engaged the enemy by now. The reinforcements Kaine himself had dispatched were still enroute to the rendezvous point outside the Obroa System. Unlike Reyn's headlong charge, the proper relief force would not be jumping in blind, but would pause at the threshold of the battle zone to take stock before engaging. A planetary invasion was no joke, and the forces necessary to carry out even a small landing would be considerable. Kaine had comprised his relief force accordingly, not sparing the firepower.
Intelligence Director Cerani had already chewed him out over his dispatch of many of the clan's protective forces to the battle at Obroa-Skai. Kaine hadn't enjoyed going against her recommendations, but she'd admitted that there were no pertinent threats. As Field Marshal and overall commander in chief, it was his responsibility, and final decision. Kaine busied himself with the arrangements for König's promotion and new assignment. Of all his surviving children, he was Kaine's choice to succeed him as Alor. He'd decided that he would step down from the role when he could no longer keep up, and despite his next milestone birthday being sixty-five, that hadn't yet happened.
A sip from his tihaar flask mollified his displeasure somewhat, and the Alor turned next to the disposition of the Clan's varied and sometimes unorthodox forces. Myrkr was still the major training hub and homeworld, offering most of the training infrastructure that the task of turning recruits into supercommandos required. There were many other such locations, however, scattered from the Core to the Outer Rim, allowing for all potential environments and unique hazardous challenges. Each installation was key to furthering the experience and capabilities of the supercommando corps.
Grumbling as he finished off his duties, Kaine took another sip from his flask, and pushed back from the holodesk. Checking the chrono, he estimated that the relief force would reach Obroa-Skai within the next day or so. Seeing that two of his kids were there, Kaine hoped they moved their shebs. Amaranth and Reyn could take care of themselves, but a father always worried about his kids. The Old Boar did not intend to die any time soon, but likewise, he was resolved not to outlive any more of his children.

Carnifex ( Warlock-Class Star Cruiser) Myrkr's orbital space was quiet as the Warlock-class vessel Carnifex moved insystem and took up a low orbit above Hyllyard City. The operation to which the vessel was being assigned was so secret, even the ship's Captain knew nothing yet. Indeed, only three beings, one of whom was Kaine himself, knew all of the details. The other two were his Intelligence chief, Cerani, and the Clan's AI. Security was as tight as the old boar could make it. Need to know didn't extend to the participants just yet.
Groundside, many elite supercommando units had been rotated in over the last few weeks, they knew for redeployment, but not yet that it would be an operational deployment. Some of the more senior figures noticed the unusual activity such as the recent Ysalamir collection expedition and the presence of the Carnifex above Hyllyard, but kept their suspicions to themselves. They all had work to do, preparing their units, ensuring supplies and ammunition were laid in, and that the fighting men and women were ready to do their jobs when called upon. Many of the transports and shuttles going back and forth from the Warlock-class carried these elite units and their supplies up to the ship. Once aboard, they were assigned quarters and shipboard duties. Most hadn't been aboard a Warlock before, and were surprised and intrigued at the unique design. Facilities were spartan, but they felt very secure living aboard. Security was extremely tight, and there was plenty of room for them to exercise. Many of them had been assigned to loading and securing the Ysalamiri they'd collected on Myrkr. That gave them another clue that something big was in the offing.
Another point of note that didn't pass by the crews and supercommandos was that the ship's hangars were particularly bare. The starfighters and bombers that would normally be part of the vessel's strike complement had all been reassigned to Myrkr, and there were many open spaces. No one aboard knew that the ship was to be outfitted with the first runs of War Pig gunships that had not yet entered full production. They would be as key to the Carnifex's future mission as the warriors now berthing aboard.
Nobody had yet been briefed on any details of the upcoming mission that many of them suspected to be a significant operational deployment, not a garrison duty. E ven when Carnifex had been loaded up and began to move up and away from Myrkr once more, all the crews and soldiers were told is that they had another supply run to make. Hurry up and wait, in other words, something all soldiers knew very well. Knowing that the Clan didn't keep secrets for fun, they trusted that they would be told what they needed to know when they needed to know it.
Besides, Kaine himself had come aboard, with twenty of his Jare'rami'kade. That meant wherever they were going, their chieftain would be with them, and told them it was important, and that they would not be going in blind or unprepared. They did not know a single detail of the operation. They did know that somebody somewhere was going to have their shebs kicked.

Cerar Kandosii - Hyllyard City
Preparations for the Byss operation were nearly complete, after much work, heavy construction efforts, and the massing, arming and preparation of the beings who were setting off to the Deep Core, they were almost ready to depart. Kaine felt the credits were well spent, though he'd been surprised at the sum total his warriors had been able to spend on kit, he didn't begrudge them access to the finest weapons and armor they could find.
He had committed a significant portion of the Clan's military strength to the operation, including most of the commando corps, half the fleet, almost all the ground vehicles, and a large chunk of the elite troops. He had also necessarily committed most of the best and brightest of his command personnel to the mission. His own children were the glaring omissions, and they had all been kept out of the security loop.
Kaine's plan to head off any objections had been to wait until after the mission had launched to inform them. König would understand, and would be too busy with his General's stars to object. Amaranth would likewise understand, though she wouldn't like it. Marit wouldn't object to being kept out of the loop, given her own responsibilities on Commenor. Reyn's objections would be muted given his own imminent court martial, and Vevut would just have to live with his father not wishing his youngest son to be part of a dangerous mission. None of them would like being kept out of things, but they'd all have to accept the fait accompli their father presented them with. He'd deal with any fallout if and when he made it back.
The Old Boar was under no illusions, his plan was ambitious, risky, and dangerous. Even if everything went according to plan, they would be facing overwhelming odds, they would be significantly outnumbered, and they would, even when reinforced, be outmatched by the First Order's military and their Yuuzhan Vong allies. Only by performing to their very best standards would Clan Australis survive. Kaine was putting everything on the line for what might well be his last fight. All-in, or near enough as made no matter. Few enough of the Aliit remained on Myrkr, with the bulk of the commandos and elites with their Field Marshal, ready to resist, and bite.
