KS-5700 'King Raven' Freighter
Ship Class: Light Freighter
Ship Role: Light Transport
Ship Length: 35.7 Meters
Agility (A): 2
Defensive (D): 4
Offensive (O): 4
Speed (S): 3
Special Gear: 0
Description:
The Unknown Regions have been, throughout most of Galactic history a dangerous and often lawless place. This causes to major problems for merchants and couriers looking to ply their trade in the region, as many could not afford to hire expensive escorts, which further complicates any efforts to improve trade throughout the region, causing shipping to be unreliable and expensive.
Seeing an opportunity to exploit an often neglected niche, Karavin Concern, a small manufacturer of commercial and military vessels often associated with the Forgotten, has initiated a program to develop a starship which could defend itself from the various dangers of the Unknown Regions, with powerful weapons and heavy armor to give it improved survivability in a firefight.
The resulting design was the KS-5700 'King Raven' series, a small, compact freighter which, while sharing the same three-engine layout as most of the company's vessels, sacrifices some cargo capacity for increased survivability. The 5700-series features military-grade shielding and heavy armor, as well as a powerful array of weapons, consisting of six laser cannons, two of which are mounted in a turret that can rotate to track targets, along with a missile launcher, giving it the capability to defend itself against the majority of pirate raids.
The 5700-series does feature several caveats. Due to the amount of space and power that are taken up by the systems which give it the resilience it is known and advertised for, the 5700 has a much smaller cargo capacity than other freighters in its size category, of only up to seventy tons as well as only being able to house a complement of up to four crewmen and passengers unless additional cargo holds are reconfigured for habitation, due to the compact layout of the ship.
Despite these limitations, the freighter's capabilities make it an excellent choice for spacers looking to ship cargo in the more dangerous parts of the galaxy and although the price is somewhat steep, it makes up for it with its military-grade defenses.
