At the main bar, Davren Australis sipped at his ale, watching a replay of the latest round of the local meshgeroya league. It was a fairly brutal form of the game, and certainly spicy enough to suit Mando'ad tastes.
Davren ordered himself another mug and surveyed the crowd. Oyu'baat was quieter than usual. He noted a man sitting at the bar with a bottle of whiskey and nodded. Bucket off, the man might notice Davren's blue eyes studying him for a moment.
The fellow had the look of aruetii about him. Armed, but that wasn't out of the ordinary on Mandalore. Davren took note of the fellow and returned to watching his game.

After he finished his whiskey, he noticed an armored man among the throng. He appeared to be examining him, as he noticed him nodding slightly before he turned away. Excusing himself for a moment, he walked over to where he was standing, noticing the various crests upon his armour, and making a mental note to ask Selena what they meant later on. He then began to speak: "Hey there. The name's Steele. Jesse Steele. Call me Deadeye though. Anyhow, you look like the kinda person who could use an extra gun by your side. I happen to be a mercenary, and I'm looking for work." He glanced over to Selena sitting at their table. "Me and my, err, friend over there can provide you with some help. We're not afraid to get our hands dirty. Also, we're a flexible crew. We can adapt to any situation. Hasn't let either of us down yet, since we're both standing here. So, what do you say?"

Davren put his drink down and caught the man's approach, turning to face him.
He listened to Jesse speak, smiling when the man spoke of looking for mercenary work. That was why Davren usually staked out Oyu'baat. Recruiting.
Name's Davren of Clan Australis. Welcome to Manda'yaim.
Survival is as good a reference as any these days. We'll take care of any expenses you have once you sign on with Clan Australis. You'll want to meet the General, he'll be back this way soon. MandalArms is as close to a HQ as we have on the homeworld. Most of our work gets done out there. Dav gestured up to indicate the galaxy at large.
So, you ready to become a Mando'ad?

He stopped to consider for a moment. This mans intentions were pure, he knew that from his many contacts. Plus, from what he had heard this mans general was the legendary Kaine Australis, whom he heard was currently on a Yuzzhan Vong hunt, something he had tried to do in vengeance for his brother. He then spoke: "Well, both of us have travelled the galaxy extensively. We've seen almost every star system, and we're what you may call familiar with all of them. Selena is actually from Mandalore, and still has her beskar'gam in our ship. Plus, I've heard from many of my contacts that you are hunting Vongese, and I despise the Vongese. So yes, I am ready. She will also fight with us, as long as we don't anger House Vizla."

Davren listened, and took note of the mention of Clan Visla. Australis hadn't had much to do with them in the past, so he'd be careful not to overstep and offend them.
Well now, we're always hunting Vongese, vod. When we see em, we kill em. The General fought em before, and he's not a fan of the crab boys.
But he's handling the few that showed up, and so's the Mand'alor himself. We've got other fish to fry. Mandalore's rebuilding. What do you two want to do? Ships? Raids? Construction? He paused. before continuing. Black Ops?
Davren's shrewd eye, he wasn't a recruiter for nothing, watched Jesse carefully to see how he responded.

He assessed all of the training he had recieved all those years ago before he spoke. "Well the fact is we've both received much training in covert ops. She's a sniper, but she is good all forms of combat. I myself am more of a hunter than anything else. I can find anyone you want without being spotted any time, any place. However, I don't mind front line combat, and can more than hold my own in a fight. So I think black ops for me, and probably raids for her. At least, that's what my assessment suggests. I'm not sure what you think."

Davren approved of the skillsets. Snipers were valuable, as were skilled hunters. They'd find welcoming company among the vode, who respected what you could do much more than what you did before you were a mando'ad.
Sounds like you'll both find plenty to do. We're in the process of planning some raids now, but Black Ops always have work, and they report directly to Kaine. For now I think both groups will be working together, as we're not at war with anyone. Rebuilding takes time, and we're working our hardest. Once we're on our feet as a people, we'll be looking outward.
That didn't mean there'd be no fighting, far from it, but war was another matter entirely, and save for an unexpected invasion, war wasn't coming soon.

Jesse was content with this work. It was enjoyable, and there were many benefits. In addition, the slight lull in fighting would give him a chance to gain a standing within this clan. "Well, I think it may be best if I get going. We have a lot of stuff to move to your headquarters, and if I don't go, I'll probably end up drinking to much whiskey. Also, I'd think you came to recruit more than one person. It has been a pleasure meeting you, and we look forward to working with you and your comrades. He shook Davren's hand before paying for his drink, getting Selena, who had gotten distracted talking to some female Twi'leks, and exited Oyu'baat.

Davren nodded his approval.
Don't get too comfy here on the homeworld. The Clan's new home is on Thyferra, and no doubt we'll have most of our operations set up there by the end of the month.
MandalArms' start up had been Kaine's responsibility to the new Mand'alor, and thus there'd been a significant Clan presence on Mandalore. Now that the Clan's recruitment had swelled their numbers once more, there had been a need for a new primary headquarters, and the former Vegemite Sith world of Thyferra had been selected both for its proximity to Kiffu and its control of the galaxy's bacta supply. Plus it was a jungle world, and the Australis boys loved themselves a bit of jungle.
I look forward to hearing of your exploits, Jesse.
Dav watched Jesse leave, then returned to his drink and watching the meshgeroya.

=Mand'alor's Paperwork Woes== <<107PP; O7 Sector, Mandalore, Keldade, Oyu'baat, Mand'alor's Office>>
It was the first time she had actually ever set foot in the room that served as an unofficial office of state. In had served a surprisingly large number of Mand'alore over the years. It was also more or less like she expected. The bed that was the centerpiece in most of the other rented rooms had long since been cleared away. There was a small cot in the corner, but it was nearly an afterthought. A huge desk filled the center of the room, though it lacked any chairs. A random hodgepodge of tables, dressers, bookcases & other surfaces were shoved into the room wherever there was space. Covering absolutely everything in the room, including piles on the cot itself & on the floor, were piles of datacards, datapads, info slates & even a few moldering tomes.
It had been a very long time since there was a bookkeeper for a Mand'alor. Aya however, had an edge. First she was a mech, though not openly, so data was her first nature. Secondly, she had just gotten word that they had finished the translation project for the Imperium's holonet system. Several techs entered the room behind her. A space was cleared for a crate sized machine. This involved a lot of shoving things into the hallway for the moment.
The device itself was a bank of datacard slots & a holonet transceiver. Working quickly, the techs started dumping handfuls of the chips into a feeder slot in the top of the device. As each chip was copied into the holonet, it was neatly packed into a file box. As each file box filled, it would be replaced with a new one & the full one would be taken for physical archiving. The data itself would be handled by a fair sized chunk of the Imperium's holonet that had been set aside temporarily for this job. Most of the data would be hopelessly out of date or simple irrelevant by now. By some things would likely be important even still. Once everything had been sorted, identified & confirmed she would settle any issues that happened to be both outstanding & in need of her input. Just the downloading would likely take days, even with the device.
In the meanwhile, she would be waiting to see if the Itera clan was interested in her project.

Old Talrich Itera made his way into the 'baat in the midst of a flurry of techs playing with datacards. As much as he didn't like dealing with the politics of his culture he had to admit it was at least good to see records being properly taken care of. He preferred hard copies to computer databases, but he was an avid believer in the need for proper records. Strolling into the office and taking it all in with his hard blue eyes he turns his attention to Aya and begins the conversation with his usual bluntness. So what is this project you're talking about?

Seeing that he was blunt & straight to the point, Aya decided to follow suit. The desk had been the first to be cleared, so for once in generations it was completely bare. She silently scatters a fistful of objects on the desk. They were wildly varied. Present were coins, chips, scripts of paper, along with a few more esoteric items. All had one thing in common. They were all technically Mandalorian credits.
-Aya In short? Money. Our current system isn't sustainable. Ever since the fall of the Mandalorian Empire many clans print their own versions of the credits. Often as they need them. So far the Imperium's version of the credit has managed to keep the rest afloat. That is going to change. For a start, we need a national currency again. & for that, we will need someone running a national Mint. I want your clan to be in charge of that.
She sets a small projector on the desk & waves it active. Several potential currency examples appear above it, all have on thing in common, they are printed with a Mythosaur skull on one face & the broken symbol of a major faction from the last few hundred years on the other.
-Aya I am thinking we should call it the Mandalorian Skull, instead of the credit. That way individual clans can keep printing their own credits, but they will have to keep in mind an exchange rate will have to apply if they do that. Before you ask, yes that would apply to my own clan as well, though the rate would like be one to one as we already base our credit's value off the face price of the Nova Crystals. Eventually, other clans should be able to work their way up to the same level, though they will have other tasks to focus on in the short term.
She waves, as if gesturing smoke away. Having brought herself back on track, she finishes the proposition.
-Aya As for the make, we will stick with Nova Crystal. It is valuable & stable enough economically to function at face value anywhere in the galaxy & given the right tech, isn't too hard to produce. If your clan agrees, you will shortly be receiving a shipment of equipment & technicians to wherever you want it set up. You will be getting a crash course in Nova Crystals & the technology around them. Final designs will be up to you & your people, but should follow in this theme. At least for the first run. Reminding our people of all the factions we have outlasted with be a much needed morale booster & should help the Skulls catch on in the general population. After the first run gets us some traction, you can start issuing other designs, But I still want the Skull on the face. So, are you in?

Talrich listens as the new Mand'alor laid out her plan. It was solid and obviously though of long before she had actually claimed the title. The fact that it was already basically ready to be put into service impressed the old man and made him more confident in his decision to support her claim. Yes. He said simply, letting that hang in the air between them for a moment before continuing. Although we're more in need of the equipment than we are of the training. My people have long used Nova Crystals in some of our workings for practical reasons. It was true, his clan were crafters, and some were even artisans, but they worked in practical mediums such as Nova Crystals for similar reasons to why the Mand'alor wanted to use it as their currency. Art could be beautiful, but beauty without practicality had no place in Clan Itera. They didn't have the equipment to produce the crystals in the quantities Aya would want, but if provided with it their own artisans would be able to do most of the training without having to use outsiders, which was something Talrich definitely preferred. He was happy to work with the other clans, but the only people he truly trusted were his own.

With his agreement to her plan, Aya sends out a number of quick messages. She was certain it would be needed, so the ship was already in orbit, waiting only for a set of coordinates. Once that was done, she finished up the few remaining details with the Itera chief. He would be needed before too much longer back at his homestead however, in order to sort out the inevitable details that always came up in situations like that.
With the beginning of an economy started & another task force investigating the situation for the Assembly's ground defenses, it was time to set up a fleet admiral. She had just the clan in mind as well. Beyond her own clan, Bralor was one of the few with a solid navy, along with a fairly decent track record. A quick message was sent to the clan chief, inviting him to a meeting. She had little enough doubt he would come, if only to find out what the invitation was for.

A sixty five year old human male with closely cropped grey and blonde hair, armored in green beskar'gam with subtle dark orange flourishes on the pauldrons, Torin Bralor arrives at precisely the time the Mand'alor's invitation requested him to do so. Removing his buy'ce after being shown into Aya's office, the leader of clan Bralor stands at what would pass in most military organizations as attention, his chin up, chest out, shoulders back and stomach in, as he greets the Mand'alor in Mando'a, "Su cuy'gar," in a respectful, formal tone that compliments the rather precise and economical way that he moves, age having come over time to grant his movements with a fluid ease that leavens the stiffness often inherent in formality.
Asking the purpose of the invitation seems a bit rude to Torin and so, after greeting Aya, he allows, by falling silent, her to reveal the reason he has been invited in her own time and fashion.

There was still a steady steam of clerks working on making a dent in the backlog of reports, so any air of formality was quickly ruined by their bustling around. Aya waves the (slightly) older man to lean again the center desk. She still hadn't gotten around to getting any chairs in the room yet, but hopefully she would at least have a seat to offer in the near future. For the time being, she could at least have drinks waiting for any guests. One benefit of holding court in a tavern.
-Aya Olarom.
She took a moment to really observe the man. They hadn't met personally before this, but their clans had interacted several times, most often cooperating. He was only about five years older than she was, but she looked less than half his age. A side effect of her race, or at least it would have been, if she had been the species she appeared to be. As it was, she was technically immortal, but that was no guarantee of a long life, as her own father displayed.
-Aya It has been too long since we were able to fight as a united force. I have people working on the ground side of the defenses. I doubt it will achieve any uniformity, but that isn't its goal. The goal is to bring everyone to fighting trim & able to at least work together. However, that is just the ground. I have my General, but I need an Admiral. Your clan has one of the largest & most successful navies in the Assembly. If you are willing, I want you to bring that expertise to the others. Visit the core worlds, find out what they have, what they need & what they want.

Torin, aside from nodding to agree with Aya's sentiments about how long it has been since the Mando'ade were able to function as a well-oiled fighting machine and pursing his lips in thought when she explains why it is she has brought him here, does not interrupt Aya as she speaks; nor does he immediately comment on what she has said or asked of him once she has finished speaking.
Resting his chin atop the gloved knuckles of his right hand, Torin considers what Aya has asked; thinking of how many others before her have claimed or won the title she now holds, made grand plans and bold claims about what they would do for the Mando'ade, only to disappear, walk away, or step down from their role. Will Aya be any different, Torin wonders, or will she too ultimately step away from the title and the responsibilities that come with it? Taking a breath and lowering his hand from beneath his chin, having decided that it may have been as much the fault of the Mando'ade as of the previous Mand'alors that those in the role have not accomplished all that they or those that supported their claims had hoped; a leader cannot lead, after all, if those being led do not play their parts as well.
"I am willing, my Mand'alor, Torin says after his moment of reflection, his tone a resolved one that suggests it is not lightly that he has accepted the task Aya has placed before him. Trusting that he has understood that more than a simple survey of resources is what has been asked of him, with fostering a higher degree of readiness and ability to work together seeming to him to be an objective of his task, Torin asks while gesturing to the bustling clerks moving about the office, How often do want to receive reports, or to meet face to face to discuss what can or should be made available to address any needs I discover?"

Aya nods in return,. He didn't seem interested in the offered drink, but at least he was willing to take on the job she wanted. She had plenty of of experience with the stiff military types, usually with the older clan members rolled in from the New Infinite Empire. So far she was having a fair bit of fortune so far. She was beginning to wonder when her luck was going to run out.
-Aya At first we will need more detailed meetings. Ship numbers & deployments, crew readiness, progress on building up fleets for the various clans, materials or equipment required, so on. Once thing start to settle out, it will decrease. Of course, if we get into a shooting war, it will increase sharply.

Sniffing with the faint suggestion of a smile briefly appearing on his face, as much a laugh as he finds appropriate given the discussion at hand, when Aya jokes about how they would need to meet more often were a war involving orbital combat to occur, Torin says, "Naturally. Recovering from what he perceives as a lapse in the composure the situation warrants, Torin asks a few questions he feels will help ensure that he has a firm enough grasp of Aya's priorities to perform his task to her satisfaction, Are there any of the worlds you feel warrant more immediate assessment than others? Should we come up with estimates of the ideal fleet arrangements for each world prior to assessing their needs rather than the other way around? It is likely that some will over or underestimate their needs, and having an idea in mind of what is appropriate beforehand might facilitate easier . . . discussions of what can be provided in those instances where a disparity between want and need exists."

Aya took a moment to ponder out exactly what her priorities were.
-Aya Focus on the capital worlds first. Other than that, I want each fleet able to at least delay any reasonable sized attacking force, regardless of what types of ships the attack brings to bear. That means being able to fight against either fighters or capital ships. Beyond that, I think that the natural skills of the clans & their lack of experience should let you guide them into balanced choices.
On the other hand, mandos were known to be extremely hard headed about a great number of things. Torin would likely run into at least a few clans that simply refused to achieve any type of balance. It would be understandable, after all, Torin would likely be working with them for some time. It simply wasn't reasonable to try & sabotage his mission by having him try to force her own ideals down the throats of other clans.
-Aya Is there anything you will need from me in the very near future?
