Description:
With the passing of ages, technology advanced and shipbuilding improved, paving the way for new concepts and designs with each passing era, relegating older ship models as nothing more than relicts of the past. However, it hadn't gone unnoticed that older designs were once again making their way to the front, each model improved by the current technology and mindsets of the current era. The Imperial III, Victory III, and Gladiator III sprung back up among the Imperials while other, older vessels, such as the Sith Harrower, Interdictor, and Centurion had received new, upsized forms. In light of these revivals, Mahal petitioned Kuat Drive Yards to look back at the ship that thrived during the Clone War: the Venator-class Star Destroyer. With its original concept and new technology and ideals, it was a prime candidate to form something great. Though it took a little work, it wasn't long before the Venator III-class project began.
Many features remained unchanged as the new design unfolded. It overall shape stayed the same as well as its ability to enter atmosphere and land on a planet's surface. Though a quarter of the length had been removed, the opening bow doors to a large hangar remained as well, the side and ventral hangar also remaining. But some alterations were made. First, was the length of the vessel. Adding just under an extra 200 meters, the idea was to open up the ship to a few more weapons and bigger power plant. Next was the twin bridges being removed. A newer much bulkier bridge was built closer to the main body that was better defended and more streamlined.
However, these were far from the only changes. Mahal wanted to focus in on the offense and defense of the vessel. While capable in its own time, the Venator seemed underwhelming in most situations, despite the power its primary weapons could wield and its defenses were average at best. Time had passed well enough to prove that a carrier could be defensively and offensively strong as well without sacrificing carrying capacity. And so, the ship's armor and shields were greatly improved. It was the weapon loadout, though, that saw the greatest upgrade. The original heavy dual turbolasers were replace with quad heavy turbolaser turrets, the increased size of the craft also allowing for the addition of another pair, bumping up the count from eight, to ten. These new cannons retained the capabilities of the original, having the two tracking modes: precise long distance and fast tracking. Once compared to be capable of matching the battery of the Imperial I, the new turrets could easily put out more damage, especially when all power was directed into them. But that was just the start. The pair of turbolasers were multiplied, becoming twenty dual turbolaser batteries. Forty ion cannons, sixty-four dual point defense turrets, and six heavy proton torpedo tubes began rounding out the beast's teeth, the final touch being sixteen flak gun running down the side of the ship, ready for closer range broadside attacks. With its six tractor beam projectors, the Venator III ensured none escaped the onslaught.
Finally came the compliment. This was one of the reasons Mahal sought to bring the vessel back. Despite this, the amount of ships it could carry was cut in half, allowing for only two-hundred and ten fighters to reside within its hangar. But this decrease along with the extra length, more troops were able to be carried, doubling up the count from two-thousand to four-thousand troops.
With these upgrades, the newly christened ship would bring forth a new competitor in the starship race.
