She nodded again, closing her eyes once more. She opened her mind only partially, enough to feel a strange new sensation on the corners of her mind. It wasn't the tendrils of the collective, it was.. solid.
Fearfully, she reached out to it mentally. Aerandir's presence radiated with light, and she enjoyed a brief smile as the .. irony? .. of that statement sank in. Her actions were hesitant, but she made contact with his presence before opening her eyes back up.
The unblinking blue orbs stared up at him, waiting for approval of some form. She really didn't want to have made a bad first impression..

*He waited, sensing her hesitance and... fear? Of what, exactly? A new sensation? Well, he had a lesson for her then... But he felt her touch. She'd made contact, meaning she had opened herself to the Force, even in such a small way. The small smile on her lips at the contact in turn made him smile as well, and when she opened her eyes, looking up at him patiently, he nodded.* "That's a start. You've taken your first step into a larger world." *He set a hand on her shoulder gently, then tilted his head to the right.* "But what are you afraid of?"

Her voice was soft, as hesitant as her mental contact had been.
"I don't wanna go back."
She really hoped he didn't start asking about the collective again..

*Her response was simple. And almost heartbreaking. The hand on her shoulder wrapped around her and pulled her close to him as he firmly assured her,* "I won't let you." *There he was, letting parental instinct pull his child close to him as he declared he would never let harm come to them. Wasn't he supposed to teach her a lesson about fear? Sighing, he sat up a little straighter, not removing his arm from her but loosening his grip a bit.* "But you can't let that fear control you," *he warned.* "Tame it. Fear is the basis of our survival instinct, but while we must learn from it, we must not live by it. Living in fear will only cage you in, or worse."

"'Our' survival instinct.."
He had wrapped her in a protective grip, but now that had loosened; she still spoke as softly as before, though. Part of her was still jarred from what had just transpired. Part of her was excited to have taken her first steps. But for the most part, she was .. wandering unfamiliar territory, and still in need of a fair amount of guidance.
"That's still new, too.. how do you tame it?"

"As with anything else, practice," *he explained.* "It does take some time to master just about anything, but we all have to start somewhere. The first step is to control yourself and think rationally; don't make any knee-jerk reactions. Always be in control of your own thoughts."

She nodded, determined to understand this and make it work.
"Always be in control," she repeated. "And practice."
Another nod followed the first.
"How would you suggest I practice?"

*He smiled and nodded at her when she repeated his words, then tilted his head slightly when she asked for a suggestion on how to practice.* "Hmm... Well, it's not the same for everyone. I always first suggest meditation, but it seems that's a little problematic for you at the moment." *He reached up and held his chin, thinking on the subject a little more, then smiled and lowered his hand.* "Actually, that's a perfect start. Learning to stand your ground. Close your eyes once more, and focus on the Force. Let it fill you. If something you fear threatens to transform you in a way you don't wish to be, reject it. You are in control of yourself."

"That's.."
He was right, though. So she nodded a third time and closed her eyes, reaching out with her mind. There, she could sense his light at the edge of her perception..
I am in control of myself.
Past Aerandir's light, she was beginning to feel other sensations, but they weren't.. familiar. They felt foreign to her. Light started a slow and steady rhythm of breathing, once more applying his earlier advice. She was going to keep trying. And she was going to stay in control.

*Her protests were understandable... or would have been, if they had been allowed to be voiced. Instead, she nodded and closed her eyes, once more slipping into the Force. He watched her with both his eyes and his mind, attempting to see what she saw, feel what she felt. There wasn't much there, but that was, perhaps, what mattered. He offered no guidance, no support, merely a watchful eye; if she were able to confront her demons on her own and keep them at bay, all the better.*

As her mind stretched out, she became increasingly aware of her surroundings. The new awareness was vibrant yet peaceful, the vague perception of a planet brimming with life yet in a state of balance.
I've got this.
The more she reached, the slower her approach became. Yet there was no sign of the sickening touch of the pathogen in her mind, no reason for her to fear. It was another long stretch before a smile tugged at her lips; though still hesitant, she couldn't but feel some sort of satisfaction with herself.
"How am I doing?" she asked quietly.

*He could sense her caution as her reach extended, but it yielded no ill consequences thus far. Instead, she seemed to be extending her reach into the world itself, sensing life and not... corruption, for lack of a better word. Idly he entertained a thought of whether or not she was capable of creating a bond with the world as had Morgan, but if the same bond had not yet been recreated with Baylee, then he couldn't be sure.
Light suddenly hesitated, then a small spark of confidence pushed her onward, continuing to extend her feelings even as her fear waned. Quietly, she asked how she was doing.* "Wonderful," *he replied encouragingly.* "Don't let go just yet. Familiarize yourself with the Force. It will become your ally."

A pair of large holoscreens had been setup on either side of the balcony. Their displays switching between a handful of holocamera's that were floating in the air, broadcasting to not only the displays in the garden, where the Jedi were assembled that were present on Felucia, but to the other Jedi Academies across the Galaxy. Assembled upon the balcony were the various Jedi Masters of the High Council, with those not physically present appearing via hologram
Rawkill walked out of the Jedi Base onto the balcony. After a brief vote by the council, he had been chosen to perform the ceremony to make Aerandir the Grand Master. He passed through the middle of the circle, and mounted the small repulsor platform. Due to his height, they'd had to bring in a platform to bridge the difference. He looked out to the crowd, before turning back to face the base. It was then that he watched Aer exit the base. The various Masters unclipped their lightsabers and held them at the ready. Rawkill drew the wolf head hilted cross saber. The platform hovered to the right height as Aer came to a stop in the middle of the assembled Masters.
Rawkill had consulted as many of the texts as he could. There had never been an official ceremony for declaring a Grand Master. But there was a precedent for reusing the Jedi Knighting ceremony for raising a Jedi Knight to a Jedi Master. So it stood to reason that the same would work here as well. The lightsabers all ignited then, as Aer took a knee. The platform moved closer to the soon to be Grand Master. A solemn silence swept over the crowd, each of them sensing the gravity of the situation We are all Jedi. The Force speaks through us. Through our actions, the Force proclaims itself and what is real. Today we are here to acknowledge what the Force has proclaimed. Aerandir Calmcacil... Rawkill brought the purple blade down over each of the human male's shoulders. Being careful to not accidentally cut anything off By the right of the Council, by the will of the Force, I dub thee Grand Master of the Jedi Order! Rise! With the deed done, the platform lowered back to the floor. Rawkill moved to the side, with the circle moving around. This would allow Aer to move forward and address the gathered Jedi

*This was actually happening. The Council had spoken and now he was ascending the balcony to stand before them in a ceremony similar to that of Knighting. Much—if not all—of the Base was present, or at least watching via device. Including his own family, who stood below in the Courtyard at the forefront, along with many of his closest friends. Michelle seemed excited, as did Jake. Cassie seemed happy, and yet concerned; strangely, Morgan felt the same. He empathized with them the most; this was the highest honor, to be sure, but also the greatest burden.
He knelt down in the midst of the gathering when it was time, lowering his head as the Ewok's weapon was lowered over his shoulders. No going back now... All it took were the final words, the proclamation, and the deed was done. Grand Master Aerandir Calmcacil... He could already tell he would never get used to that. Also that he was going to have an even more difficult time convincing people to refer to him only by his first name.
He took a deep breath then exhaled before standing, taking a few steps forward toward the railing, even as the crowd cheered and applauded after the proclamation. When it was clear he was about to speak, they instantly quieted, apart from a belated—and quite audible—cry of "Whoo, go Aerandir!" from Shells. He allowed a small smile before his expression became more serious, for the crowd had begun to bow to him.*
"Stand," *he called out. There seemed to be some confusion, but most, who were at least somewhat familiar with his lack of formality, rose to their feet at varying speeds.* "I stand before you as no more than a servant of Ashla, as all of you. I will continue to go where she leads me, to stand against tyranny and preserve galactic integrity." *The Dantari crystal slipped free of an inner pocket in his robes, the white-green object hovering subtly beside him.* "... in that capacity, nothing truly changes. But now I'll only strive even harder to lead by example, and show the First Order that we will not be frightened, we will not back down from our defense of freedom and peace. With the Force of ourselves, the Force of others, and Ashla's will, we shall not fail this galaxy."
*He meditated as he spoke, his mind and soul reaching out across the gathering, enriching his presence in those gathered, the younglings and the Masters alike. Their essences fueled not only him, but his crystal, which only grew even more white. He reached out and grasped the crystal, holding it over his heart as he made one final comment to the gathering.* "May the Force be with us."
*And then he turned, even as the applause renewed. He admittedly left feeling heavier, as though the weight of the role had already become palpable. But the entire Order now rested on his shoulders; the Council's as well, but that one little title had thrown things into sharper relief. But it also meant he had the support of the Order... Even though he would have to continue to prove himself worthy to them. He bowed to the rest of the Council before he departed the Balcony, wondering how this would change things in the days to come. Hopefully, not by much, but soon he would see.*

<<Pulling out Refugees SL>> ==107 PP; R6 Sector, Felucia, Jedi Base==
The Tempest came in low & hard. It looked like the battle had been running for a while, though it showed no signs of stopping. The hanger was likely out of the question for an extraction, but the balcony overlooking the courtyard would be a find fit for her ship. With the heavy weapons on the ship run out & manned, so to speak, she expect no-one on foot would be foolish enough to attempt to stop her. If they did, they would quickly find a ship grade stream of fire turning them to ash.
First job was to load up with as many from the jedi temple as possible & then get them out of here. She would load every free meter of the ship with anyone she could pull from the melee.
As soon as the Tempest was fully stuffed with people, including the cargo bay, the vehicle bay & the workshop, it quickly burned away from the balcony & the temple itself. They had been fortunate not to encounter any of the attacking forces, but perhaps it was more than fortune.

Several evacuees headed towards the ship. Many of them had been injured from the battles so the boarding process was a bit of a trial. Mark was the last one to approach the balcony, but there was still something... something made him pause...

Throughout the Base, every step Mark made, he felt as if a shadow was following him. He had his mother's keen senses to thank. The hidden woman found him in the Medical Facilities. In the chaos of the moment, however, she deemed her place best to remain hidden, even her very physical presence warped with the Force. The movement in the corner of your eye; your mind playing tricks on you. However, this illusion continued to drain away her strength -- and rapidly. As she followed Mark from the Medical Facilities to the Balcony, the woman knew her exit would be much more difficult, especially if she succeeded in gathering what she came here for.
Mariah glanced around, finding no familiar faces among the Jedi evacuees. She would have no difficulty blending in now, with the panicked boarding the waiting ship. Brushing next to Mark, Mariah lowered the illusion. Her presence, though, remained masked. Her aura was neither dark nor light. Just another presence here, another evacuee awaiting for help.
"Mark," she whispered, kneeling down in front of the boy.
Lowering her hood to reveal herself to the boy, her fiery hair flowed down her shoulders, crimson eyes staring into his. While there was an intensity behind the hue, her expression was stoic yet serene. Her exhaustion was painted on her brow by the beads of sweat that dripped, showing her taxing trial she passed through just to make it to this point.
Still, she continued in her quieted tones, the urgency in nothing more but her words. "You need to come with me. Immediately."

Mark looked at the woman, perplexed at first. How did she know his name? Why was she even here? And why did she look so... familiar... so much like...
"...Mom?"
The word just slipped out of his mouth. But as soon as he said it, he shook his head.
"I mean... no. That's not right..."
It couldn't be right. This woman was different, yet, she reminded the boy so much of his mother that it was almost intimidating. How did this woman, who looked so much like his mother, but clearly wasn't, but also -felt- so much like his mother, but not exactly... know his name? The boy was at a loss.
"Who are you?"
He asked her with a very confused expression evident on his features.

As Mark's eyes flickered about her face, Mariah could see that the boy was clearly befuddled. She remained still and silent, even after that question slipped out. "...Mom?" Nothing about the question seemed to startle her. The only thing she offered was the slightest tilt of her head and listening ears. She made no clear attempt to comfort him, nor did she attempt to silence him. And so he stammered on in his confusion until that final question finally broke free. He really was too much like his mother.
"I'm family," she answered, her voice still hushed.
It was enough of an answer, and all she could give him at that moment. Her crimson eyes broke from the emerald pair staring intently back, and Mariah turned to face the entryway back into the Base. They needed to leave -- and now. Her sense of urgency finally revealing itself, Mariah stood to her full height and started towards the entrance back into the Base. However, she paused momentarily to raise her robes' hood to mask her features and to glance back at him over her shoulder.
"You can ask more questions, but later. You're in danger here." With an outstretched hand towards the boy, she beckoned him to follow her. "We need to get you out of here, immediately."

Mark continued to look at her quizzically. "Family"... She had to be. This woman could not be an impostor. No one could manipulate the Force that well, at least, to the boy's knowledge. He could sense the urgency in her voice and so he heeded her advice, or at least, some of her advice, and put those burning questions he undoubtedly had out of his mind for now. It would make sense for her to be leaving the base, after all, given the circumstances and the evacuation order. But she had turned around towards the base and headed back in the direction that they came from. That was odd. Shouldn't she be entering the ship with him and everyone else, instead of walking right back into the base where all of the danger was?
"But that's the wrong way, uh... Miss, the ship is here to pick us up."
The boy replied, still quite a bit perplexed by the woman and her actions.
