Serena wasn't thrilled about having to cut short playtime due to homework, even if it was only a little bit. She wasn't sure how much Morgan had to do, but maybe it would be a lot less boring if they did their lessons together.
She smiled and nodded."Sure! I still have to go shower and stuff so...wanna meet in the archives?"

*Morgan grinned when Serena agreed to meet her in the archives, after cleaning up first. When asked if she wanted to meet in the archives, Morgan nodded and stood.* That's good, I need to get some stuff done too. Bye Serena! See you there! *She gave her friend a quick hug before turning and heading out of the training area for now.*

Eruestan Duskhand had been taking it easy for some time. Ever since his adventures in the Tower, he had been struggling with the things he saw and did in the wretched Darkside infested place. He had also taken the time to continue the training of his padawan Naomi. She was one of his closest friends and he was rarely seen without her after he returned on the brink of death from the Tower. Today was one of those rare times where he came to the Training Area, not to spar with her, but to spar with another one of his close friends, Wynn Bralor, the Mandolorian.
Wynn had known Eruestan for years now. They had met when a small band of Jedi and Mandolorians were trying to prevent a pro-Sith revolution on a planet that both of them prefer to not remember. On that mission they had both nearly lost their lives and the only thing that kept the pair alive was each other. Ever since that failed mission, the two had been like brothers. Wynn looked his friend up and down. It had been a long time since their last match against one another. Each had learned some new things since the last sparring contest, and that excited the Mandolorian, he liked a good challenge. Checking one last time that his blasters and the sparing vibro blade he had borrowed, were all set to low power, Wynn put on his helmet and nodded to his friend that he was ready.
Eruestan checked his saber and made sure it was on low power so that he wouldn't separate his friend at the waist. When he saw Wynn nod, the Jedi raised his saber and activated it. The yellow blade hummed to life as he made ready to defend himself against his friends first blaster shots. He knew Wynn's strategy by heart and was ready to give chase after the first volley. Wynn would always fire a wave of shots and then use his jet pack to keep his distance. However, Eruestan was used to this and knew if he could bob and weave his way thorough the rest of the shots he could close the distance, and both of them knew he was the better swordsmen.
Wynn drew his WESTAR-34 blaster pistol and fired a few shots. But instead of falling back like he usually would have, he flew forward and right into his charging friend.
Eruestan was cought compleatly off guard as Wynn slamed into his chest. He flew several feet back loosing grip on his saber and it went flying. And by the time the daze was wearing off, he looked up to see the Mandolorian standing over him with his blaster pointed at his head.
Well, I guess that's one for me? Wynn said, while he offered a hand to help his friend up.
It looks like it. Eruestan groaned as he grabbed his friends hand and helped himself up. It's been awhile since I had jet packs to worry about. Well, who knew getting hit by an armored bag of bricks would work up such and appetite, let's go get some food. The Jedi lead the way out of the training area, rolling his eyes at the continued taunting that Wynn offered up on the way out.

*The training area, Tom's most common locale, next to the gardens. If the man wasn't practicing himself, he was teaching. And when he was doing neither of those things, he was in the gardens, meditating. But his teaching role just became larger, it seemed, at least for now. He stopped in the entrance, Raine following, hopefully, and looked down at her.* We're here, but I'll let you decide where you wish to start. We can sit and meditate, and I can educate you on the Force and anything else you'd like to know... or you can get started with a few exercises to begin with. *The choice was hers. Of course, Tom planned on covering all of these aspects at some point, but he would let her decide which she wanted to pursue first. Mostly so he could use it as a judge of her own character, as well, see what she was most enthusiastic about...*

*Raine followed Tom into the training area and looked around. The room wasn't quite what she expected, then again she didn't know what to expect in the first place. When Tom asked what she wanted to do first, she paused. She wasn't sure if this was a test or if he was being honest.* "Well....I really want to know what the force is, but I focus better when I'm actually moving or doing something. Cause sometimes I get distracted when I'm sitting for long periods of time." *She bit her lower lip for a moment before speaking.* "Can..we start with some exercises?"

*Raine took her time answering, seemingly uncertain of herself, as though this were perhaps another test. Ah, insecurities, she would work those out of herself soon enough, he was sure of it. Finally she answered, stating that, while she liked to learn about the Force, she got distracted when sitting for long periods of time and she focused better when moving. Tom chuckled with amusement, then nodded when she asked to start with some exercises.* Very well, right this way. *He gestured toward one of the training rooms nearby, leading her into it. Seems as though her focus needed attention as well, though all in good time. He stepped toward a weapon locker and activated it via panel, causing it to appear from the wall. He took a training saber and a remote, then turned to toss the training saber toward Raine.* Catch. *Was it a little mean, tossing a weapon such as that toward her without much experience? Perhaps, but Tom didn't take training lightly. Besides, if she were to accidentally trigger the weapon, it would do no more than sting her.
Regardless, he waited for her to properly hold the weapon before letting the remote levitate above his hand; it was not live, he was merely holding it up using the Force as he gestured toward the center of the room.* Trigger your weapon, hold it steady. This is a simple test, one meant to test one's reflexes and attunement to the Force's voice. Are you ready? *He could have triggered the remote and began the instruction without asking, but he wasn't that tough of a teacher...*

*Raine looked around the room curiously. When Tom told her to catch, her attention quickly focused on him, or rather the object he tossed to her. Swiftly her hand shot out and grabbed the handle of the blade. She held it in a reverse grip, just like how her father taught her to hold a combat knife. At Toms command, she activated the blade. She then slid her right foot back and raised her hands in a defensive position. All her weight was now focused on the balls of her feet, allowing for a swift change in position if need be. She may have been young, but she had learned a lot in her short time, especially about fighting for survival.* "I'm ready."

*Tom observed every movement closely, at her deftly catching the weapon, her preferred grip, and the stance she took when preparing for the exercise. Tom had not asked for a history, nor did he need to, for he could see it all in her movements and reflexes: She had some combat experience before, perhaps taught, perhaps learned, but there was definitely a survival instinct there from past experience in some form or another. The reverse grip meant she had some sort of weapons experience; it wasn't likely she would have picked it naturally, seeing as one's usual instinct was to hold the weapon upright.
Shien, then, would be the most suitable combat form for her, most likely.
When she announced she was ready, Tom triggered the remote without even moving his hands, selecting an easy setting and letting the weapon find its target as he took a few steps backward, leaving only a few opening words.* Rely on your senses and instincts. Let them drive you. *Usually children were given this test with their eyes shielded, to better help them become more in tune with the Force's guidance. Tom would very much resort to that if he felt Raine had a rough start, but he was curious to see if this past experience of hers would lend to skills in this preliminary test...*

*Raine watched the droid levitate there in front of her. When it shot, she swung to early, and almost got hit. She tensed some, wanting to keep moving out of the droids range, but a voice in her head stopped her. The voice was of her father, telling her that she needed to be brave and face her challenges with everything he taught her. Stay focused, She thought, just breath and relax. She let out a slow breath and relaxed her muscles. The second shot came from the remote, this time she deflected it, barely though. The bolt shot of wildly just as the third shot came. That one was deflected also. With each successful deflection, Raines confidence grew.*

*Tom watched intently, arms folded, fully alert; during such lessons, if the teacher opted to be present during the exercise rather than in an observation chamber, he too had to defend himself against stray bolts. Raine seemed to be struggling with her strategy at first, wanting to dodge instead of strike back. While dodging was a good skill, it alone would not protect her.
Fortunately, she seemed to be steeling herself, and managed to deflect the second shot; Tom leaned to the right quickly, allowing the bolt to sail harmlessly past him and fizzle out of existence on the far wall, a small singe mark the only indication it had ever existed. Other bolts didn't come near his location, though many did sail wildly in other directions. However, she seemed to be getting the hang of it quite well, and he smiled at her prowess.
But the smile also had a slight edge of mischief to it. The only movement he made was a subtle gesture with his fingers, a gesture Raine would likely not notice due to her focus on her training. The gesture was a suggestion, one the Force took; the remote's training level would suddenly shift up into a higher level. Now Tom was being a somewhat cruel teacher... But if she was adapting so well now, it was time to test her limits.*

*Raine never noticed Tom raising the difficulty on the drone. She did, however, notice the increase in the amount of blaster bolts coming towards her and their accuracy getting better. The first two shots she blocked successfully, the next however, she barely avoided. Dodging to her right, she avoided the next shot only to have to block the next several. She had to keep moving, if she didn't, she'd get hit. This was the hard part though, the shots were getting closer and she couldn't dodge or block all of them. Then it happened, a well placed bolt made it past her training saber and struck her right shoulder. She staggered for a second only to take a shot on her left calf. Despite the pain from the blaster strikes, she kept on going, it was going to take more then that to stop her.*

*Her response was initially solid, but soon she was starting to become a little overwhelmed. She now had to resort to moving and dodging, before at last a bolt made its mark. And another. Some strict teachers might end the lesson there, proclaiming the trainee "dead" and their training a failure. Tom was no such teacher; this was a mere training drill, and he expected his students to know that, yes, if those were real bolts, they would have been dead. He wanted his students to learn, and cutting an exercise early would prevent learning in his opinion. If they struggled often and continued to struggle, then yes, that would require attention, but this was the first lesson. He was content to leave the difficulty level as it was for now, see if she was able to adapt or if she needed to stop, for now...*

*Raine was starting to feel panic as the shots got closer, her survival instincts started to kick in, telling her to run. She took a deep breath and fought down these urges. Retaking her defensive stance, she focused on the floating droid. She blocked out all surrounding distractions waited for the droid to make its next move. Without pausing, the droid fired. The first shot, Raine barely blocked. The second whizzed by her. Adjusting her footing, she blocked the third and fourth. The next several were blocked easier then the last. To her surprise one of the bolts almost struck the droid itself. Even though she was doing better now, she was still struggling.*

*She was adjusting. That much was obvious. Tom considered whether he should up the difficulty a little more, deactivate it now, or let her continue... maybe she'd surprise him and manage to deflect a bolt directly into the remote, which would trigger its shutdown. For now, he did nothing, content to watch and see how she progressed...*

*Raine was starting to get a hang of deflecting bolts. Even still, the shots went wildly in every direction. Her confidence began to climb with each succesful block, but she could feel herself growing more tired by the minute. As her body wore down, the shots started to get closer. Her breath became more labored and her movements started to slow. Another shot barely missed her, causing her to sidestep. She angled her blade to block another shot, and was surprised at what happened next. The bolt bounced off her blade and hit the droid square. Once hit, the droid stopped firing.*
*Raine watched in stunned silence for a moment before deactivating her blade and dropping to her knees. She was breathing heavier then normal and she could feel sweat on her brow. After several seconds, she turned her grey eyes on Tom.* "That's....the first I've ever blocked blaster fire before." *There was no pride in her voice. Only a simple statement.*

*She was adjusted, but now she was pushing herself, growing worn from the constant barrage of bolts. Indeed, having to fend off so many could be tiresome, but still, Tom could see that her endurance could perhaps use a little work still. But still she persevered rather than plead for a break, which was an admirable trait, one he could tell would make her an excellent learner. The bolts kept coming, the girl kept deflecting them, and eventually one managed to deflect itself directly into the remote.
Tom's eyebrows raised as the remote flashed and ceased fire, continuing to hover in midair. As the girl fell to her knees, he approached waving his hand over the remote, first above to deactivate it, then below to catch it as it fell. When she looked at him, breathing heavily with sweat dotting her brow, and declared it was the first time she'd blocked blaster fire, he smiled.* And you did well! You've earned rest, unless you had something else in mind? *He raised an eyebrow, but the question was only partially a test: Either she had the determination to keep learning, or she certainly would prefer to stop and rest. Both were acceptable answers, though he would certainly find the former more admirable. Of course, he wouldn't think any less of her should she wish to rest; Tom certainly would have found it tempting at her age.*

*Raine gave a slight grin at Toms appraisal. She wasn't much for such things, rather relying on criticism to better herself. His question made her think for a moment. She was worn out now, even still she knew she'd regain her energy back soon. Slowly she stood up and faced him.* "There's still so much for me to learn. I'd rather keep going."

*Raine didn't respond to his praise other than a smile, seeming more content to catch her breath. Finally she stood, faced him, and announced that she'd prefer to keep going. Tom's mustache curled upward into a smile; she was a learner indeed, this one.* Very well. *He paused to think for a moment, thinking about the options he'd offered earlier. Instead of making a decision on his own, he decided to leave it to her.* Meditation? Learning more about the Force? Or is there a third option? *Now he wanted to know if she had any preconceived notions about what Force-use training might entail... Lightsaber arts alone weren't the only physical training Jedi went through, after all, but he wasn't too keen on running the poor girl ragged on her first day. Unless, of course, she insisted... who was he to deny her?*

*Raine closed her eyes for a moment, gathering her thoughts. She had a lot of questions, and several ways to go about it. Opening her eyes she turned to Tom.* "I...want to know what the force is. I've had it my whole life but I don't understand it enough to control it. That's why my life has been harder then most, because I can't control what I fail to understand."

*She wished to learn more about the Force, a quite reasonable request, one that many students generally began their teaching with. He stowed away the remote before approaching her, stopping about three feet away and sitting on the ground cross-legged in front of her, resting his palms on his thighs. Before he could begin teaching, he had to know where exactly to begin.* Forgive me if another has asked you this already, but I need to know this information myself: How much do you know of the Force, already?
