*Raine watched the remote move forward and begin tracking her. She shifted her body with each move of the droid to keep it in her guard. The remote fired the first shot which Raine blocked with her left hand, sending the shot into the nearby wall. She deflected the first few shots with her dominant hand before switching to her right hand. The first shot she blocked, she almost missed completely. The feeling was different with her right hand but she wasn't clumsy when using it, she just needed to focus harder with the timing. She practiced this for several minutes, switching hands every couple of shots just to get the feel for it. When she started to feel a little more confident, she started to move around rather than being static. Hitting things with two weapons was one things, blocking with them was completely different, but she wasn't does as bad as she thought she would. Then again the remote was still set on a low level.*

"I believe half now was our agreement." Leigh proffered her cannon to Malora as she stood, glancing only briefly at Na'an. "You can input your deposit location here. When you get to Corellia, you should see the first half already transferred to your account. The names on the account at the shop are Vidalu Na'an," she said, indicating Na'an with her free hand, "And Leigh. The second half of payment will be given upon Noba's receipt of the manifest. "Na'an watched the Malora's back with her arms crossed, chewing on the inside of her cheek as she watched the black-haired woman fiddle with the buttons on her partner's arm. Malora's hulking buddy--Connors, was it?--was hovering nearby, shooting her a halfway suspicious look that said he didn't believe that either of them had told his Captain everything. And to be fair, they hadn't. Na'an bit the inside of her cheek harder, mulling the last couple of minutes over. It wasn't the first time she'd seen that look on a smuggler's face. In a matter of minutes the details were done. Leigh smiled warmly, gesturing towards the door to escort them to the Hawk. As they made for the exit, however, Na'an lurched to her feet, as if making a sudden decision. She grabbed at the woman's shoulder, turning her halfway back to look her in the eye one more time. "I mean it, Malora, " she said urgently, "Be careful about using our names with anyone but Barrish. And..." she took a deep breath, steeling herself before continuing. "And if anyone--I don't care who it is--if anyone mentions the name Aherk Formidonis, you're free to go. You take whatever you've got at the time and you bail."
Her grip tightened almost painfully on Malora's shoulder, the skin going briefly white on the knuckles. "You can keep the fuel and the money, but I don't want Noba involved with that guy."She heard Leigh make a small abrupt sound--the sound of her audio circuits snapping off in surprise. For a brief moment, Malora's heart froze and plummeted into her stomach, and her smuggler bravado slipped as she saw (and felt. Ouch. The woman had one helluva grip) the look on Na'an's face, heard the stress in her voice. And there was something about that name… "Wait, Formidonis?" She stared at Na'an like she was on the brink of remembering something game-changing. Maybe she was. She could have sworn the name had come up in one of Vyra's old holo-messages, before she'd up and disappeared (not that Malora cared much). But it was more than that. It felt creepily familiar, and when she said it in her mind, it wasn't her voice… Mal blinked. "Huh…Never heard of him." Why worry Na'an now? She couldn't put her finger on the memory, so she let it go and ignored the anxiety in her stomach, pulling on her best reassuring expression and adding a little half smile. "But hey. Thanks for the warning. Don't worry; we got this. The fuel's gonna get there, Noba's gonna be safe, and if this guy shows up, I'll keep him off your tail best I can."
Firmly, but not unkindly, Mal reached around and disengaged Na'an's hand from her shoulder, giving the woman's thin fingers a short squeeze before letting go. "Dealing with bad guys? Saving farms? This is what we do." And she clapped Na'an's shoulder before whirling around and following Leigh and Wade through the door. "Pleasure doin' business with you, Vidalu Na'an. Next time, pick a bar. Drinks are on me!" she called over her shoulder with a mock salute. And then the smuggler, the gladiator, and the giant robot disappeared down the hallway.

And, with a bemused look and clenching slightly-tingling fingers, Na'an watched them go. Almost as soon as the door clicked shut, she heard the tinny beep in her ear again.
That was...forthcoming of you, Leigh's voice said, in the quiet warm voice she used in the private comm.
"No, that was me taking responsibility. Forewarned is forearmed, and forearmed means they'll survive."
Do you think that they are at risk?
"I..." Na'an opened her mouth, then closed it, biting her lip. Taking a deep breath, she started again. "I don't know. I don't even know if we are. I mean, we don't even know what he wants..."
There was a pause. When the connection beeped again, Leigh's voice sounded concerned. Go to the medical bay. Adelle is waiting for you. Then strongly consider getting some rest?
"I just woke up two hours ago."
Some real rest.
"No promises. The Master still wants a report."
She could hear Leigh sigh, then the crackle of their connection closing. Na'an waited just a minute longer, rubbing at her scarred eyesocket and letting her thoughts settle into a shape she could ignore. Then she stuffed both hands in her pockets and opened the door, to head out of the Training area and towards Medical. When the door clicked shut again, Training Room Six was empty--only the shattered remains of a training dummy held any record of who had been there.

*Tom watched her adjust, testing one arm at a time, alternating, finding her footing. It was smart, and very telling about her life experience so far as well; had she been taught how to adjust, or had she been forced to learn it? Regardless, she was growing more comfortable, being able to move about and switch between hands as she deflected the remote's shots. Tom meant it when he said he wouldn't set the remote to as high a capacity as before, but a little bit of adjustment wouldn't be out of the question, as he subtly gestured with the first two fingers of his left hand to ease the difficulty up a notch...*

*Raine didn't notice the difficulty raise, at least not right away. She blocked a shot with her right blade, only to be caught off guard by a bolt that struck her right hand. Stumbling slightly in surprise, she dodged the next then blocked one more with her left blade. The change in difficulty caught her by surprise, but it didn't slow down her determination. Using her right blade to block, she used her dominant left hand to try and knock blaster bolts back at the remote. It may not have been the best strategy, but it was the only one she had at the moment.*

*Iella entered the training area, the idea of a more active form of meditation more appealing at this time than simply sitting down under a tree somewhere. That is if there were actually trees on this planet. Honestly, it was a little hard to tell from what little view she had gotten on her way down here and she hadn't yet explored the gardens in the base. That would be later, maybe.
In any case, she found a room that wasn't in use and steadied herself, taking a deep breath and letting the Force surround her. Then she took her lightsaber off of her belt and held it out in front of her. There seemed to be a stigma associated with using double bladed lightsabers as she did, as some Jedi saw them as weapons more suited to those who followed the dark side. Iella had never minded this, and this weapon perfectly suited her preferred fighting style.
Soon the room echoed with the humming of lightsaber blades as Iella began her routine, slowly twirling the twin blades around. Double bladed lightsabers were difficult to control and could be extremely dangerous to the user if one didn't have the training, but if one was watching Iella, she could certainly make it look easy. She began to move faster, incorporating more of Form IV into her 'attacks' against whatever phantom opponents one could conjure up.
A few minutes later, she slowed down and eventually stopped, breathing lightly from her exertions. She hadn't been at this for very long but she did feel a little better now. Now how to step this up a few notches...*

*Combat. Not exactly Jake's forte, which was a bit of a contrast to his sister, who was skilled in hand-to-hand, with a lightsaber, with a bow, and was now practicing with her new whip she'd recently made, which was impressive. Jake could use a lightsaber and fight hand-to-hand, in fact he and Morgan were often sparring partners. He was capable of holding his own against her, but in general, he never felt like he was the fighting type. Probably had something to do with his recent fascination with healing, and he was most grateful for the studies he'd undergone with Doctor Shaewe...
Still, he at least tried to keep his skills sharp. Even if he never became an expert fighter, the least he could do was be sure he was able to defend himself when it was most necessary. And since he'd had some free time to himself, he decided to spend it in the training area. But with what? Defending against a training remote? Multiple remotes? A lightsaber combat droid? So many choices...
He'd lost himself in thought, so much so that he hadn't at first noticed that the training room he'd entered was already occupied by a woman with a saberstaff. Once he became aware of this, he snapped out of his thoughts and stammered and started to back away.* "Sorry! I didn't know someone was in here, I'll— Ow!" *he exclaimed as his head bumped against the wall. It didn't really hurt, but he reached up with his right hand to rub the back of it anyway. Well this was now doubly embarrassing...*

*There seemed to be some slight struggle with this difficulty setting, so Tom's fingers curled back into his fist, content to leave the remote's setting as it was for now. At some point, he would like to apply her combat abilities to a training droid, but after she was finished here. And using only one saber; one should master the use of one before attempting to wield multiple.*

*Iella turned to see that a young boy had entered the room she was in. She had to stifle a giggle as the poor lad bumped against the wall, apparently mortified that he had stumbled into an occupied room. There were probably worse places to stumble in unannounced, but at least she had finished her little routine before he had arrived. That could actually have been dangerous...
In any case, it would probably be best for her to quickly smooth this over.*"Hey kid, take it easy."*She switched off her saber and slowly moved towards him.*"My name's Iella. What's yours?"

*Raine dodged another bolt before taking a deep breath and focusing, not on the blaster bolts coming at her, but the remote in front of her. Another shot came at her, swinging her right hand up, she blocked the bolt sending it whizzing across the room. A second bolt quickly followed after that, bringing up her left hand, she sent the bolt straight back into the remote. The remote spun for a second, then ceased it's firing. Raine took another deep breath before deactivating her blades. She was a little more excited when she realized that she took the remote out faster today then yesterday.*
"That was...a little more difficult than expected. It's kinda easier to fight with two blades then block blaster bolts with them."

*The girl continued her defense, switching between her hands to deflect bolts, until at last she managed to redirect one directly into the remote, shutting it down for the time being. That was much quicker than yesterday. Tom raised his hand, recalling the remote before shutting it down and gently setting it back within the cabinet, ready for use another day.
Just as he contemplated suggesting she attempt to engage in combat, Raine mentioned how it was easier to fight with two blades than to defend against blaster bolts. He smiled to himself, saying,* "Indeed it is, though if it's a skill you can master, it would be quite a blessing to you. You seem confident in your abilities, however, so would you like to practice the art of the blade?" *he asked with a raised eyebrow.*

She switched off her saber and approached him, with his eyes lingering on the weapon for a moment. The saberstaff was an intriguing weapon, and he imagined it must've been a lot of work to master it. Not that he was interested in learning how to use one himself, he was only a decent fighter! Still, it was kinda cool. He looked up at her face as she introduced herself. She was kinda pretty— "Stop that!" he thought. "You think everyone's pretty!"
Well, not everyone... Just the girls.
Er, right, introductions.* "I'm Jake!" *he answered, fighting off the cherry hue borne of his embarrassment.*

*At her question, Tom lifted his hands before his torso, tapping his fingers together contemplatively. Should he teach her first, or once more teach her by action? She seemed fairly adept for that, though he knew it wouldn't be appropriate in every case. Perhaps this was a case where Raine could decide.* "Which would you feel more comfortable with," *he asked as he raised a hand to his chin,* "me teaching you the basics of lightsaber combat, or you attempting to learn them yourself against a training droid?"

She had been wondering about maybe tuning her skills against one of the training droids, but with Jake here now, it seemed rude to just go back to training solo. She wondered if he'd be up for a quick combat lesson.
Only one way to find out.*"Well, I was going to be training by myself today, but now that you're here, how 'bout you show me what you're made of?" *She held up her hands.*"It'd be just a spar, mind you. What do you say?"

"Nice to meet you too!" *Jake cheerily replied, feeling a little more at ease and his redness starting to fade. A brief silence passed and he was once again aware that he was still standing here likea fool, most likely interrupting Iella's training session. He started to stammer and was about to excuse himself before Iella prevented that by asking if he'd like to spar.
Spar? Him?! Now he allowed his stammer to escape in full force. He wasn't any good at it! That was the entire reason he came here in the first place!* "Me? I... I'm not very good... I came here to practice..." *Now he felt embarrassed to admit that, like it had delivered a blow to his pride. But why should he feel disappointed? She was clearly very skilled and he was still only a child; it wasn't like he'd stand much of a chance even if she did go easy on him.*

*Iella smiled reassuringly at him.*"Well you'll only get better if you practice. I'd say it's better to practice against a live person than some droid, right?"*She wasn't surprised that Jake didn't have much confidence, though that should be expected of one so young. And she had just met Jake, but Iella got the feeling that fighting didn't come naturally to him. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
Still, when push came to shove, one's skills needed to be sharp. Still, it would probably be a good idea to go easy on him.*"I won't go all out, don't worry."

*... Iella had a point. Practice with a living being would certainly help, rather than just with a droid. Feeling a little blush returning, he nodded, mumbling,* "R-right. I mean, sometimes I practice with my sister, and my dad, but mostly my sister. Er, I practice with droids more I guess, and when I fight her, it's usually without weapons, but I kinda know how she fights, so I don't know if that counts... Er..." *Well that was off-topic. He rubbed the back of his head sheepishly with his right hand.* "Sorry. I guess it'd be okay. Er..." *His eyes fell upon the saberstaff once more. He had a feeling she'd only use one of the blades with him, but it was still an intimidating weapon.* "... are we going to use real weapons, or training ones?" *he asked uncertainly.*

*Jake posed a good question. Normally, Iella would be loathe to use anything but her saberstaff, even if it was just a spar. She could adjust the weapon's energy output to match a training saber so as to not cause grievous injuries during a practice. It was something she did often when sparring with her fellow Jedi.
This case was a little different. Jake was likely far less skilled and experienced that anyone else she had sparred with, and saberstaffs were difficult weapons to fight against if one didn't have much dueling experience. Iella quickly came to the conclusion that it would be best to use one of the available training sabers for now.
She put her weapon back on her belt.*"Training sabers for now, I think. Maybe later, I'll show you what I can do with this."*She pointed to the saberstaff now resting on her belt.*"So, I'm assuming there's some training sabers just laying around here somewhere, right?"
|

Post by Jake Palmer Calmcacil on Feb 10, 2016 20:30:43 GMT -8
*Jake waited in silent anticipation for Iella's answer, before at last she most graciously placed her saberstaff to her belt and suggested using training sabers. Jake sighed in relief, then stopped and grimaced; that was probably a mistake, a sign of weakness. Ignore it, he urged himself, try not to think about it.
When asked about whether training sabers were just lying around here, Jake nodded, pointing to a cabinet as he explained,* "Yeah! Right in there! Here!" *He turned his palm up and lifted it, opening the cabinet, then faced his palm outward, cupping it, straining his expression somewhat before a training hilt smacked into his palm. At least he was pretty good at that much. The blue beam activated, and he, grinning nervously, held it at the ready before him in a Shii-Cho stance.* "I'm ready! Sorta..." *Bad! Never doubt yourself!* "No, I mean I am ready! For real!"
