*Well, at least she didn't find his joke stupid, that was a relief. As for having any more questions, Jake shook his head, folding his hands behind his back.* "Nope! That's it. I think I might try practicing some more though. Er, but thanks though!" *He smiled again, truly grateful for what little lessons she was able to teach him already.*

*Iella smiled and nodded.*"No problem."*That was everything she could think to ask. That left the question of what to do next, something she began to ponder as she went to put the training saber away.*"That should be everything. Thanks for the spar, Jake. I'll see you later."*With that, Iella headed for the exit.*

"Bye!" *Jake waved to Iella as she departed the training area. He took a moment to consider the spar and her words... then decided he could indeed use some more training today. Holding onto the training saber, he went for the console, preparing for a spar with a training droid on a level slightly higher than he was used to. He paused, briefly considering selecting a saberstaff as its weapon... then shook his head, deciding it was still a bad idea as he stuck with a single-bladed opponent. Then he got to work...*

*Raine wasn't surprised that the droid blocked her attack, but still disappointed none the less. She spun back away from the droid and raised her defenses. Her mind ran through all the training her father gave her, even as limited as it was. Focusing on disrupting its senses was the first thing to pop into her mind. The hard part of that was a droid had different senses than a living being. Still, however, it did have sensors, so that was a start. Bouncing on the balls of her feet, she feinted right but shot left. Her target was the droids eyes, even a droid needed to see. Raising her right blade above her head, she swung down, if the droid blocked, she would then strike up from underneath with her left blade at the droids eyes.*
*The droid continued to analyze her movements, saber held defensively. It read her emotions, even as she attempted to feint, recognizing that she hadn't fully committed to the movement before shifting in the other direction. Once it was sure she was sticking to this movement, it changed position, bringing its blade up to meet the first strike forcefully; its sensors, designed to emulate Force sense to a small degree, picked up the second blade's movement, so it brought its blade down to intercept this as well. While the two blades were sufficiently separated, it tried to land a quick strike on her left bicep.*

So- the girl had left- triumphantly all be it. Zemear watched the empty space for a long moment before turning his steely blue eyes to Tom. Unfolding his arms, he gave his master a smile, a real one. It was a look that clearly stated hos much he'd missed the man, because, whether Zemear wanted to admit it or not, Tom had become a sort of father figure to him. That was not to say he fully replaced Sonnas, no one could do that, but Zemear liked having someone who had expectations of him. While Covi did expect him to hold his temper, and other such things, Covi accepted him for who he was. And Zemear wanted to be better than that.
Squaring his shoulders, the Epikanthix slowly reached upward, to his single vibro sword, strapped to his back, wondering if his master would take the silent cue. Zemear was restless after being relatively inactive in maters of real force discipline.

*After the exhibition, Tom was feeling the need to loosen up a little himself, and Zemear had beaten him to the suggestion. His mustache curled into a smile as he tilted his head back and forth, loosening his neck as he silently stepped into the training ring and unclipped his lightsaber from his belt, holding it to the side. It wasn't until he stood at the ready that he spoke.* "I haven't had a good spar against a decent opponent in some time," *he announced as his green blade sang into existence, humming through the air as he flourished it a few times, more to listen himself up than anything. Then he held it before him at the ready with a competitive, almost goading smile.* "Make me proud."

There was no hesitation, as Zemear lunged for the man, and at the last moment, darted to Tom's right, bringing his normally two handed weapon down, in a single handed slash at Tom's legs, from Tom's left to right.
Zemear's eyes suddenly focused, glinting a bit brighter, with a bit more silver in them. But per his previous self training, the Epikanthix did not start out with a force attack. Still, it wasn't not a habit for him to even use the mystical energy, except, perhaps, subconsciously. Considering- the last lightsaber duel he'd had was with a six armed alien who all but demolished the city of Niango. And while he was victorious, the Sith still lived- with all of his arms attached. Zemear obviously considered this a failure, and needed to better himself.

*No sooner had Tom finished speaking than Zemear had lunged forward to begin the attack. Tom kept his blade held still, reading the attack, only moving to intercept when he was sure of the vibroblade's destination. And then the green beam fell inward to catch the low sweep, but Tom did not a retaliatory strike, preferring to remain on the offensive; let his opponent exhaust his energy and offensive options before finding the perfect opportunity to strike.*

*Aerandir had been sure to teach Mina about the Force, as well as a child would be able to understand; after all, even to adults, the Force was still one large mystery with many unanswered questions. He'd told her about its existence in every living and nonliving thing, its dark and light sides, its ability to help... and its ability to corrupt.
But where Mina truly possessed talent was in the ways of combat. While he also made sure to begin teaching her to properly feel and channel the Force, he had wanted to see the extent of her combat abilities and hone those. He'd handed her a training saber, and while at first she seemed intrigued by the blade and even a little excited to be holding one, she didn't seem entirely comfortable with it. Eventually, she had asked—in few words—for a staff instead, Aerandir recalling the scene when they first met. He'd handed her one and she immediately appeared more comfortable with it, after first testing its weight and balance. Aerandir, who had been "sparring" with her using his lightsaber's training setting, grew curious and asked her to spar again.
After only a few moves, he now understood why she had gone for the cell bar as a defensive weapon, and why she had seemed to have a competent grasp on it.
So her combat training had been conducted with her new weapon of choice. In the meantime, he'd enlisted Dr. Rollins's help to create a new weapon for her. It hadn't taken long to complete; Dr. Rollins had apparently been experimenting with a lightsaber-resistant material he dubbed "betaplast," and he had been more than eager to experiment with it in some capacity.
He had been present at the demonstration, first handing the weapon to Aerandir and assuring him it had worked as requested, and would stand up to a lightsaber's blade. It was a metallic-looking cylinder, fairly basic save for a release mechanism. Aerandir then knelt and handed the tube to Mina and instructed her how to trigger it. He stepped back and watched as she triggered the release, then nearly jumped out of her skin as the cylinder suddenly expanded into a full staff. He smiled as she had examined it in awe, running her hand along the length of the weapon, impressed by the device.
Then she looked up.* "This is mine?" *she asked quietly, though incredibly eagerly.
Aerandir smiled and nodded.* "Of course."
*Immediately she beamed, then once more became serious as held the weapon properly. She spun and flourished it, getting a feel for it; it seemed to be just right, for a small smile crept onto her lips once more.
And then they had engaged in another spar, Aerandir this time using the lighsaber's normal power setting, if only to test the weapon's integrity. To his delight, it held up quite well, and Dr. Rollins seemed pleased, though did warn that the material wasn't quite perfect, suggesting brief or glancing contact with a lightsaber blade instead of prolonged exposure. Aerandir thanked him for his work; Mina seemed to attempt to verbally thank him, but instead bowed. Dr. Rollins seemed only happy to deliver, and that this weapon was another success.
So combat training continued with Mina, albeit with the lightsaber in training mode. Perhaps one day, he could teach her to utilize Force weapon... but if she chose to remain devoted to the staff, he supposed she may eventually forge a weapon using a material fully resistant to lightsabers. Still, she seemed comfortable enough and proud of her new weapon, and he was indeed impressed with the combat abilities she seemed to have already picked up.
But... from where? He knew very little about her past, partially from her rarely speaking more than a few words at a time, partially because he hadn't wanted to bring up dark memories leading up to her capture by the Sith. But if he was going to continue her training, as well as raise her as his own, he needed to know everything about her that he could.*
"So where'd you learn to fight like that?" *he asked her one day after another practice spar, quenching his lightsaber's blade.
She looked at him contemplatively, as though considering if she should tell him. He frowned, about to suggest she didn't have to answer before she said,* "My daddies."
*Aerandir raised an eyebrow, unable to tell exactly what she meant by that.* "You mean me and your first daddy?" *he asked tentatively.
She shook her head.* "No. I had two daddies."
*Aerandir's eyebrows raised. Not unheard of, but uncommon enough that this was the first time he knew someone who was raised by same-sex parents. Was she born via surrogate then, or adopted? Asking her would be futile though, so he only added that to the mental file of questions to answer about his adopted children. Along with the reason Jake was separated from Morgan, and which twin was born first... the former of those two being the far more important question, of course.
Although maybe he could get a clue if he asked,* "Did you have a mommy?" *Immediate shake of the head. More likely adoption then... though it didn't necessarily rule out the surrogate route. He sat down on the ground and she followed his example. Changing subjects, he asked,* "What did your daddies do?"
*Her eyes looked this way and that, once more contemplating the answer, before they settled on him and she answered,* "Fought. Trained me. Trained others."
*Aerandir tilted his head to the side.* "Others?"
"Lotsa Wookiees."
*Some sort of resistance movement, then, no doubt. Attempting to raise a force to fight back against the Sith's oppression, but were put down. This much was obvious, and he debated asking her more about that. Maybe not directly... Instead, he asked,* "What was it like?"
"Scary." *She slowly lowered her head, looking into her lap. He regretted asking. But she looked up again and continued,* "Had to hide from Sith all the time. Then some pretended to be Jedi to help us, and..."
*She trailed off, but her expression finished the thought for her. Aerandir frowned sadly, both with sympathy and realization.* "That's why you were afraid of me..." *She nodded. He reached forward and set a hand on her shoulder gently, looking into her eyes, offering a reassuring smile.* "Well, I'm here to make sure that doesn't happen to you again. You know that now, right?" *She nodded again and he patted her shoulder.* "You got it."
*He released her shoulder and silence fell for a moment. Mina then unfolded her legs and crawled the short distance between them, climbing into his lap. He wrapped his arms around her as she clung to him, whispering,* "Don't leave me too, Daddy."
*Now knowing what she'd been through, he felt a pang of sadness for her and he held her tighter, cradling her as he whispered back,* "I don't plan on it, kid." *He allowed the moment to linger a little while longer before he sat up, loosening his grip on her.* "Right, well I'd say that's enough for today. Back home, huh?"
*She gave a nod as she smiled sweetly up at him, then wiped her glistening eyes. He smiled back at her, waiting for her to pick up her staff and retract it before taking her hand and leading her away from the training area.*

Zemear did not hesitate as his master's saber made contact with his humming weapon, rather he bounced off the saber's blade lightly, bringing his blade up, around, and back down for a hard hit to Tom's right shoulder. Normally an attack like this would leave his body exposed, but the large Epikanthix kept his arms bent and his body tight while moving his weapon. This gave him the ability to react instantly, should the Jedi decide to attempt an opportunity on Zemear's center.

*Iella led Kent into the training area, though it was already the second time she had been here. Kent didn't seem terribly enthused by the idea, but then their first attempt to have her feel the Force hadn't gone well.
She quickly crossed the room and picked out a training saber for Kent. This wasn't going to be a spar though, as she also plucked one of the training remotes, as well as noting the location of one of those helmets with the eye shields on it. She handed the training saber to Kent and set up the training remote.*"So I think we'll try something different this time. It was a mistake for me to try teaching meditation, because you haven't yet learned how to quiet your mind. But that's my fault, really. I can't train you the way I myself was trained." *She pointed to the remote.*"We use this remote to help train Initiates the basics of lightsaber combat. That's why I gave you that training saber too. It's a low power blade so there's no danger of injuring anyone."*She smiled.*"This remote is going to fire some low energy shots at you, and you're going to try to block it with that saber I gave you. The shots will sting, but they won't do any damage to you if they hit. So whenever you're ready, turn on your saber and the remote will begin its program." *Iella took a few steps away to give Kent plenty of space to work with and she waited to see how it would all turn out.*

Training weapon or not, this was the first time she had held a weapon since the fight in front of the dinner on Nar Shadda. She was used to light based weapons. He thought back to the barely functioning light foil she had, and how it was lost the last time she used the Force. She powered the saber on and a yellowish blade sprang forth. It was balanced but the grip was a little larger than she would have liked but it would do for training. She tracked the remote, she began to memorize the pattern it flew and spun. Left and right she tracked it, blocking the bolts with ease. She was never really told what she was supposed to do, so instead of just blocking she spun like a dnacer to the other side of the remote in close. She brought the yellow blade up and into the bottom of the remote. The little droid received the arc of energy and was flung back against the wall with a loud thwack! How was that? Did I do it right? She knew the answer was no, she used her normal senses and did what she always would have done, not something new. Not something with the Force. She looked down, knowing she had failed, again.

That was Zemear's style, a perfect match against a form like Soresu; an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object, only one would eventually have to break. Would the relentless aggression overwhelm the barriers? Or would the concentrated defense hold and strike back at the assailant's weak points? One such weak point seemed to reveal itself to Tom, and, though it was early in the match, he dared to take it, striking diagonally upward for Zemear's torso while he brought his wide swing upward.*

She looked down, knowing she had failed, again. *Iella was a bit disappointed that she hadn't explained this exercise very well, but also Kent had done a little better than she had anticipated. Still, most of the time one wasn't actually supposed to be hitting the training remote like that. Sparring droids were more suited for that purpose. But they weren't done quite yet.
She smiled.*"Well...sort of. Tell you what, I'm going to have you try it again. With an added handicap." *She summoned the training helmet to her and then walked over, placing it on Kent's head with the blast shield down, shutting out her vision.*"You did well to block everything, but you're still not tapping into the Force. So that's what this blast shield is for. As good as you are with your eyes open, they can still deceive you. This time, you're going to act on instinct." *She picked up the training remote off the ground and tinkered with it for a few moments. The saber hadn't done any lasting damage to it, so it was a simple matter to get it running again. This time, Iella set the remote to act more unpredictably with its movements and the shots it would fire.
The remote began to move around, with Iella remaining silent as it started. This time Kent wouldn't get any warning that the exercise had begun again.*

Ok. Was I supposed to hit it? It seemed rather silly to just sit there and let it shoot at me. She continues talking to Iella, waiting for the exercise to begin, not realizing that it already had. Thanks again for doing this. The remote was fine, but the power selector was now little off. When in fired it would be fast and ferocious, more suited to a full Jedi knight than a teenager holding her first light saber. Not lethal, but powerful enough to leave a decent scare if not treated with bacta.

"Well now you know. Now less talk, more focus. And you're welcome."*Iella watched Kent closely as the remote began to move, erratically, more erratically than seemed normal even for the settings that she had put in. Something was wrong. Perhaps that strike that Kent did had done more damage than she had thought? Regardless, it seemed that this exercise had become a bit more than Iella had planned. She kept a close eye on Kent, ready to stop the session if something happened to her. So far it was just the remote's movements that seemed off.*

Embarassed that she didn't realize it had started Kent started to think about the situation. She knew she wasn't supposed to, but the girl couldn't help it. She knew how far she was from the wall on the end of the room opposite Iella, and she knew how for her steps took her. With a perfect picture of the training ground in her head she sprinted to the far side and settled with her back to the wall, preventing her from being attacked from behind. THough it might look like the Force let her do this it was just her head. She tried to listen, but heard nothing. She tried to smell the singed remote to get an idea of where it was, but nothing. In the next instant the remote fired, she could hear it this time that was new. She went to swing hoping to block the shat and caught one, but the second and third cam much faster than the last time. The first one made contact with her side, her cloths taking the damage but the pain and the force coming through, like being punched in the rib. The next caught her full in the left cheek, burning the flesh. She expected to smell it and feel the pain, and she could, kind of. It was like she was two people. One was her head and all of the information it could gather, but that was behind her, the new her. This mind knew where the remote was and her hands tracked it. It saw the flashes of light without seeing them. Her weapon came up blocking them, each one. She was aware of the burning of her cheek, and the movements she was making, but something else was guiding them, not her mind. Five, six, seven shots poured at the girl and she blocked them all.

*Iella watched Kent closely, still unsure if the remote was actually malfunctioning, but more concerned with the teenager's movements. She was still relying on memory, though it was a sound decision to keep her back to the wall. Still, her reflexes weren't enough to keep her from being shot and Iella winced as the remote's shots made contact. Those shots were more powerful than before, and Iella realized that somehow the remote had been altered when struck to fire more powerful bolts, almost as strong as was possible. Painful, but not lethal. She was about to halt the exercise and take a look at the burns when...
...by the Force she did it. The remote fired several shots, all from different angles and positions but Kent blocked each one of them flawlessly. With a broad smile, Iella reached out with the Force and pulled the remote to her, turning it off before it fired again.*"Nice job, Kent. You've taken your first step into a larger world." *She quickly took the helmet off of Kent's head, taking notice of the burn marks on her side and her cheek.*"We'd better get these looked at just to be safe. But you did it, Kent."

For a moment the girl was still in the out of body state. She heard Iella speak. Get what looked at? Then in an instant she was back and the searing burning pain on her cheek, the smell of burnt flesh filled her nose. The pain on her side from the other impact lingered as well. She dropped the still lit saber from the pain, it hummed as it fell to the floor. She grabbed her cheek causing more pain as she touched the burned flesh, and held her side. Ahhhhhhhhh! She cried in pain.

*Well that had certainly been a delayed reaction. Although in dangerous situations it was quite common to be so pumped on adrenaline that one didn't notice painful injuries until later. Not really how Iella had wanted to end this training session, but at least Kent had taken that first step. Still, it bothered her that the training droid had done that much damage to her...
But now it was time to hit the med bay. Iella was no medic, but as long as the teenager's wounds weren't too serious, she could probably just take care of it herself. Hopefully there was a doctor on hand just in case.*"Yikes. Come on, let's get to the med bay! *Moving around to Kent's unburned side, she took the teenager's arm gently and started leading her out of the training room.*"Easy now. We'll have those fixed up in no time."
