*Lucy didn't want Morgan to be upset, that much was certain, but it was difficult not to be upset as she listened to the suggestions told, of the potential need to purge not only the infected area, but even jungle surrounding it, just to be safe! Her lips squirmed as she tried to force a smile for Lucy while her feelings screamed at her for even thinking about smiling with this news. Her daddy's gentle hand on her back wasn't truthfully helping much, but she at least appreciated the gesture.
Lucy didn't look happy to see Morgan's distress; she even looked indignant as she attempted to reach for her face again, her hands slipping free of her sister's loosened grip and smacking at the older girl's cheeks, babbling and bouncing on her lap.
This time, Morgan only took Lucy's hands and rested her forehead against the baby's, her own hair obscuring Lucy's face. Master Gannor acknowledged the possibility of contacting a Yuuzhan Vong, but the difficulty in successfully locating one was still apparent, and again he mentioned that "Ossus Project" he hadn't explained earlier. Her daddy seemed to be aware of it, but didn't seem entirely confident in records, instead believing seeking out Yuuzhan Vong sightings or even sending out some kind of call for aid instead.
Better than nothing...
He then talked about Doctor Molan and his research, expressing potential concern that purging the land might only make things worse. How? Morgan wasn't sure she wanted to know. Lucy, meanwhile, didn't seem content with Morgan's current position and fussed a little until Morgan sat up, managing to force another smile. This she seemed content with, but Morgan's smile faded quickly: Her daddy was looking at her, with an understanding-yet-stern look, saying that, if things got desperate enough, they would have to let the Ithorian research on living tissue.
She stared at him blankly. She couldn't process how her own daddy could even suggest they let the scientist expose living tissue to that disease willingly! Especially when he understood how close she was to the planet and how much its life forms meant to her! But his look, his words... He was trying not to offend her, but at the same time he needed her to understand: It was hard, yes, but in order to save the whole planet, some small part of it must be sacrificed.
Her eyes were moist, but she only nodded, then quickly wiped her eyes so as not to upset Lucy. As long as it was just clippings, and not a whole plant or animal... She would not allow that. She hated the idea of willingly subjecting anything to that rot, but reluctantly, if it would save her mommy... she would allow small experimentation.
Hopefully, the Force would allow them contact with the Yuuzhan Vong instead. She cuddled Lucy, hoping that would suffice, but Lucy wanted to play. Morgan's heart wasn't in it right now, so she cuddled and bounced the baby, unable to put more effort into much else at the moment...*

He nodded his head gravely at the words from Aerandir, casting a quick glance at Morgan and Lucy as the other Jedi finished. The youngling wouldn't like her fathers stance on this but she had to understand that the greater good sometimes outweighed the need for right. While her empathy to her mother planet was admirable it could be dangerous to become too single-minded. Tunnel vision could exclude ones mind to other idea's, limiting growth and negating other ways. Perhaps he could factor such a lesson into one of his classes one day.
Speaking of classes... He was due to teach some ten to thirteen year olds today. He would need to wrap this up in time to chance and catch a quick sonic before he faced such a trial. He had been on the go now for nearly twenty hours and it was beginning to take its toll. Perhaps a nap too then, if the Force permitted...
"Very well, Aerandir. If I have your leave to proceed I will make arrangements to pursue any leads we can gather as to the presence of Yuuzhan Vong shapers. I still have some contacts in the Kattors sector. That's about as far as civilisation goes before we hit the unknown. Perhaps I can get some information before we make any firm moves out that way."
His voice brimmed with confidence, partly for Morgans benefit and partly because he truly did believe they would find their answer this way. His face set in a determined mask of zeal he nodded firmly before flashing a smile.
"In the meantime I have younglings to attend to..."
He flashed a slightly mocking smile at Morgan. Her routine didn't necessarily conform with that of some of the other students at the Jedi Base and he was often making fun with her as to her attendance.
"Will my Lady Calmcacil be joining us today?"

*As expected, Morgan wasn't taking the suggestion to doing further tests well at all. She seemed to accept it, but she wasn't happy about it, something Lucy wasn't fond of, again demanding in her own way that her sister cheer up and play with her. Aerandir put a quick arm around Morgan and kissed the top of her head, and for good measure gave Lucy one as well, smiling at both of them.
He returned his attention to the Falleen when he asked for permission to pursue leads, mentioning potential contacts that may give him a lead. Aerandir did not hesitate to nod and reply,* "Go for it, and please keep me—" *he glanced sideways at Morgan briefly before correcting,* "us up to date on anything you may find."
*It seemed Chalco had to prepare for a class, however, so the discussion would have to conclude for now. He asked if Morgan would be joining them and Aerandir looked sideways at her with a small smile. She was quite privileged, not having to attend as many classes as other students, being his own personal student after all, though he did urge her to attend as many training courses as she could with other instructors to learn as many different techniques and viewpoints as possible, ones he couldn't teach her.
And of course history lessons, those were out of his expertise.*
"Well," *he said to Chalco, after Morgan had time to respond,* "may the Force be with you, in your teachings and your searches." *"Even though it's not with the Vong," he added in his thoughts, but not aloud; somewhat rude humor perhaps, but he couldn't help it. His joking side won out in his thoughts all too often...*

*Her daddy's hug and kiss did little to console her, though Lucy grinned and babbled up at him happily before trying to get Morgan to be happier again. What actually did comfort her a little was Master Gannor's mention of having contacts he could follow to potentially get a lead. She looked up hopefully, spirits lifted immensely at the much higher odds they had now, knees bouncing Lucy with more vigor than before, much to the infant's delight.
When her daddy gave him the go-ahead to pursue his contacts, even including her in his request to keep them updated, she smiled, though her eyes still betrayed that desperate hope, knowing that it was no guarantee they would find a lead. But Master Gannor had to excuse himself, saying that he had to prepare for a class. Then he asked if Morgan would be joining them, addressing her as "my Lady Calmcacil."
For what felt like the first time in a while, she giggled at that. She had to admit, she kind of liked that, and she allowed herself a bit of a humor as she exaggeratedly tilted her head to the side and tapped a finger to her chin.* "Hmm, well, I'll think about it..." *She held this pose a moment, then grinned and leveled her head.* "But sure! I'll come."
*Master Gannor was a pretty interesting teacher, and she knew Jake was fond of his lessons; in fact, he'd been very excited when the Falleen came to teach on Felucia and was eager to be a part of his classes again. When it seemed that the conversation was wrapping up, Morgan beamed and added,* "See you soon!"
"Brrrrgah!" *Lucy excitedly babbled, eliciting more giggles from Morgan. At least the baby was happy again. Then again, Morgan felt a little more at ease knowing they had potential leads to finding a Yuuzhan Vong to help them recede the rot. It was uphill from here... it had to be!*

Inclining his head in a slight bow Chalco couldn't stop the slight smile that graced his features at Aerandirs formal tone. Not one to run a tight ship it had taken the rigid Falleen weeks before he had got used to calling the Jedi Master by first name. Indeed, a lot of the idiosyncrasies of the Felucia Jedi Base had thrown him at first, not the least of which was Morgan herself. At least she no longer ran around everywhere naken, he thought dryly.
"And with you, my friend..."
He spoke as he straightened again, the smile now fully developed into a grin that likely still looked odd on his grim features. His hands found their way into their opposite sleeves as he stood, the emerald cuffs glinting slightly in the sunlight.
"Perhaps I won't use it all up trying to manage a class of unruly brats..."
He arched an eyebrow at Morgan and flashed her a mockingly serious expression before once again allowing the smile to return. With a jaunty wave he turned and made his way towards the doors to the Jedi base, chucking at any indignant reaction that may follow him...

She had done a lot of wrong in her life. At the time, it hadn't been wrong for her. The taking of lives was part of her growth process. It was expected.. No. It was mandatory. Kill or die.
She had stripped countless Anzat of their lives. Ruined homes, destroyed lives, taken their hearts and their souls and incorporated them into herself. She had grown from them, yet her death toll was mild compared to that of most of her kind. She was ashamed of her origins, ashamed of the circumstances that had allowed for her creation. There was precious little she could do now to atone for her sins, except lend her aid to those who would see the rest of her ilk extinguished from the galaxy.
She breathed deep, taking in all that her surroundings had to offer, held the breath for far longer than she should have been able to, and finally let it out. There was a lot of work she had yet to do.
She could still hear the screams..

*Aerandir chuckled at Morgan's response to whether she would join the class, reaching over to nudge her and ruffle her hair. Lucy too seemed excited about something and babbled loudly and happily, drawing another laugh from him. Chalco then returned the parting blessing, before making some comment about not using it up on "unruly brats." Aerandir raised an eyebrow; briefly, he almost wondered if that were a serious statement, though clearly it must have been some tease between himself and Morgan. The Falleen could be a little harsh on his wording sometimes, but he ran an efficient class, so Aerandir couldn't complain.
As the Falleen left, the courtyard around them was empty. Aerandir checked his chrono, then announced,* "I have somewhere to be, I better get Lucy to her mommy."
"Mmmmmmmmmuh! Mmmmmmmuh!" *Lucy babbled and grinned, attempting to say her mother's name. Aerandir smiled and took her from Morgan, kissing both girls on the head as he stood and gestured for her to stand.*
"You should get going too," *he suggested,* "get prepared for your next class. That's not exactly classroom attire," *he joked, before beginning to lead her back toward the halls.
As they walked, he noted that they weren't alone after all; one of the refugees from Yavin was here as well, sitting close to a window out into the world of Felucia. She was a strange one, he had to admit to himself; human-like, but he couldn't pin down a species. Had an odd sort of feel to her as well... He didn't have much info on her, something he should rectify seeing as he liked to know as much about the residents of the base as possible, but he would have to do so some other time...*

*At the "unruly brats" commented, Morgan narrowed her eyes at Master Gannor. Had he meant that seriously? Morgan supposed she was certainly spoiled in a sense, but brat? No way! The comment gave rise to a grin before he turned and left, clearly meant to be a joke; it would have been odd if it wasn't, considering how concerned and kind to her he was being earlier.
But now they were left alone in the courtyard, before her daddy checked the time and announced he had somewhere to be.* "Aww," *she whimpered, as he took Lucy from her and suggested she go get ready for her next class, joking about her not being in "classroom attire." She giggled, tugging at the shoulders of the Felucian dress and letting them fall back upon her shoulders again before shrugging.* "I don't see what's wrong with this, I mean, if it's perfect for the hunt, it should be fine for a Jedi!"
*She giggled again and began to follow her daddy, before stopping when she realized they were not alone. Normally, she wouldn't have stopped, maybe taken a look around sure, but not stop; this feeling, however, was too familiar, and it seized her. Twisting alien energy... perverse...
Haruun Kal...
She spun to face the source, a human-like individual... but with an odd coloration and appearance. And she felt just like that... corruption on Haruun Kal. Only... not malicious? Forlorn, even. She tilted her head, confused and concerned... for herself, mostly. How long had she been here?! And moreover, how had she not sensed her presence before now?! Was the rot in the jungle that distracting of a travesty?*
"Daddy..." *she whispered, then turned to face him before speaking up.* "Daddy! I'm... I'll catch up later!" *Without another word, she tentatively approached the woman, still unsure about all of this. She then stopped a few feet away, still watching, unsure how to begin. Finally, a single, uncertain, meek word escaped her lips.* "Hi..."

The moment stretched on without a response from the strange girl. It was a good thirty seconds before she spoke, though it surely must have felt longer.
"Hey Morgan."
She turned, staring at the young girl with an unblinking gaze. Her eyes were the same blue as the Corruption from Haruun Kal, and she was aware of it. Her head lowered slightly, and she adopted a small smile, hopefully setting Morgan at ease.. or, at the very least, making it known that she wasn't going to attack her.
"Nice to finally meet you. I'm Rogue."
She turned her head back to look out the window again, the smile shifting from a tiny one of placation to a slightly larger one of contentment.
"This is a beautiful world you have here."

*Morgan's only response to his joke was to indicate the dress and joke that it was fine for a Jedi if it was perfect for the hunt. Aerandir chuckled and reached out to ruffle her hair, continuing on to the exit. It was when Lucy exclaimed unhappily and waggled a hand behind her as though attempting to point that he turned and noticed Morgan had stopped; she had noticed the woman and had, for whatever reason, taken interest in her. After announcing that she would catch up later, she approached the woman. Aerandir almost contemplated staying and watching, but instead he only nodded—basically to himself, since she wasn't looking—and turned, quietly reassuring Lucy that she'd see her big sister later as he returned to the base.*

*There was no response from the girl, causing Morgan to feel a little more at unease. Maybe she was distracted and didn't hear her? Either way, the mood almost felt more ominous now, especially when this woman felt so similar to... that creature on Haruun Kal.
... and the fact that she apparently knew Morgan's name didn't help.
Morgan's eyes widened and she took a step backward in surprise and perhaps fear, but when the girl finally looked at Morgan, she was smiling... and not in a predatory way. The blue in her eyes was all too familiar, and Morgan knew she had to have something to do with that entity on Haruun Kal... Wasn't the Yuuzhan Vong rot bad enough?! And still, how did she know Morgan's name?!
Relax... maybe she just heard about Morgan around the base. It made sense, she was the daughter of one headmaster and cousin of another, and her story wasn't exactly a secret. Her "nice to finally meet you" gave some credibility to this theory. She introduced herself as Rogue, who then looked out the window and commented on how beautiful the world was. Normally a fact Morgan would agree with vehemently, but right now, considering her earlier thoughts, she couldn't help but feel some sense of foreboding...*
"Um... yeah!" *she almost stammered.* "It's pretty... um... I..." *Might as well get right to it. She had come over for this specific reason, so, after gulping, she asked,* "Where are you from?" *The moment of truth...*

The smile shifted back into one of sadness.
"I think you know the answer to that question."
She sighed, a motion that seemed a bit forced, as if she was unfamiliar with the very concept.
"I came here from Yavin IV. Before that, I came from Anzat. That was where I .. was given this form. But to answer the question you're really asking: yes, I come from the same place as that which you encountered on Haruun Kal. And, I must say, you really pissed off the Guardian."
She chuckled slightly, obviously amused at the fact that the armoured entity had not gotten to have its way.
"The screaming was.. satisfying. She's never getting off that planet. ... But I'm not like them. They made me, but.. I didn't turn out how they expected."
She turned back to look at Morgan again.
"I'm sorry about your friend, by the way."

*Rogue immediately confirmed her suspicions with her simple cryptic response. Morgan nearly froze up and was about to call for her daddy, but the sadness from Rogue... Well, it gave Morgan pause. The sigh, which sounded odd in a way she couldn't place—like it was faked, which made Morgan a little more on edge again—was followed by an explanation: She'd come from Yavin IV, and Anzat before that, where she was "given this form."
Morgan didn't really like that wording.
Then Rogue outright confirmed that she was related to what Morgan encountered on Haruun Kal. Her eyes widened and she almost reached for her weapon instinctively, despite their difference in age, size, and no doubt ability... But she stopped. The sadness from a moment ago, the apparent amusement at how Morgan had "pissed off the Guardian"... that being, right...
Come to think of it, she'd seen someone else here before, who wore armor much like said Guardian... But Morgan had sensed no connection between the two, like she did with Rogue...
Rogue went on to say that the "screaming" was "satisfying." Whose screaming? The Guardian's? Must have been, judging by the declaration that she was never getting off that planet... if this was a true fact, Morgan was okay with this. But according to Rogue, she wasn't like them... "didn't turn out how they expected." Did that explain why there was no maliciousness? The smile? The sadness? She wasn't quite pleased with her origins, nor with Morgan's obvious negative feelings around her.
"I'm sorry about your friend, by the way."*
"Mesh," *she whispered involuntarily, then gasped and looked away, shutting her eyes. She had to mention him, didn't she? She grit her teeth, trying to put the thought of him and how he'd given up his life for her, a complete stranger, to escape with hers intact. Finally, after a moment of steeling herself, she took a deep breath and exhaled, shaking as she did so, and opened her eyes, responding,* "D-don't be." *Looking back up at Rogue, Morgan tried to move past the subject.* "I... how... how did you get different?"
*If that was something Rogue could even explain. Morgan was trying her best to trust the entity, and so far most things were in her favor... being related to that cruel disease of an entity was just the major factor against her so far...*

"Mesh, that was it."
She nodded once, her eyes dropping briefly before coming back up to stare unblinkingly at Morgan.
"When we.. Our.. Our life cycles are.. complicated. Not like anything you'd be familiar with." She sighed, highly doubting that the young girl before her was interested in a biology lesson about a murderous extragalactic pathogen. "But at the point in time where I was to become a new being, yet still bound to the will of the collective, something happened that was unheard of for us. The connection was briefly severed, and in that time, a family found me and.. took me in. And from them, I learned of love. Caring. Empathy. And when the Corruption tried to take my will again, I .. rejected it. And I grew separate. The only Echo in all the ages to have developed what you would call a soul. I can still hear them, sometimes, but.. they can't touch me. Not this far away, at least."
Another small chuckle came out of her, her head shaking in amusement.
"I'm sorry, I don't mean to blather on like this. I guess that's an unfortunate side effect of growing up alone. I'm only nine, and seven of those years were spent in solitude. Just myself and the collective for company. I tend to talk a lot.."

*Morgan was really starting to wish Rogue would stop talking about Mesh. It had been quite some time since that had happened, but it was still a painful memory, one she'd prefer not to bring up. The only indication of her thoughts was a slight hardening of the expression and her hands curling into fists, shaking slightly. She released them after a moment as she exhaled again, doing her best to keep herself focused and calm.
Rogue began to explain that their life cycles were "complicated," and indeed, Morgan wasn't sure she even followed the simplified version. Vaguely she did, she supposed... The "collective," that being on Haruun Kal did refer to itself in the plural, and Rogue had been somehow separated from that? She was then taken in by a family who taught her real emotion, and she rejected the "Corruption" when it returned.
Corruption? Was that its name? How fitting...
Morgan moved on from that dry thought as Rogue referred to herself as an "Echo," and the only one with a soul. She revealed she could still hear the collective, but they couldn't touch her. At least, not this far away. After apologizing for "blathering," she revealed she was only nine, something Morgan could hardly believe. Unless she was just created at the age she looked now... By now, Morgan had also realized something else that was mildly unsettling: Rogue hadn't blinked once throughout their entire conversation. It was something so minor, and yet so noticeable...
Morgan was unsure what to say next; she basically understood the explanation, apart from the age thing. One word had stood out to her though...* "'Echo'?"

"The name for my .. classification? rank? .. among the collective, and also the name that the family gave me."
She looked down at herself before finally closing her eyes for the first time since the two had started talking.
"We're called Echoes because that's what we are. Echoes of another being, one who was Corrupted at one point, or absorbed, or whose DNA we acquired somehow. We have no true solid form.. The forms that my kind take are stolen property. My form is that of a young girl whose name was Tashii. Sweet kid."
She reopened her eyes, once again settling her unbroken blue gaze upon Morgan.
"I was created from a DNA sample as part of a political deal. Complicated circumstances. There are four other living Echoes, two of whom are elevated Guardians, as of right now. Unfortunately, none of them are as friendly as I am. And you've already met one."
She chuckled.
"The fact that you escaped a Guardian still surprises me. Pleasantly, that is. You're very lucky."

*So "Echo" was a classification of sorts... and they were called that because they were in fact "echoes" of someone else. Through means that Morgan found disturbing... And suddenly she grew even more worried for Mesh. He'd been shot by that... thing. With the "Corruption." So perhaps he hadn't even died, but was, as Rogue put it, "Corrupted"?! Her eyes grew wide in horror at the very idea; suddenly, she wished he were dead, for that sounded a lot better than what happened to him now!
Unless...*
"Can—" *She silenced herself, as Rogue wasn't done speaking. She had closed her eyes, something Morgan hadn't really thought much of, but after the eyes were open again, she reminded herself just how somewhat unsettling that unblinking gaze was... But not nearly as unsettling as the details of Echoes, as well as Rogue's own creation...
Guardians. That was what Morgan had run into. And escaped from, which Rogue was pleasantly surprised by. After noting that she was lucky, Morgan gave a mirthless smile and a mechanical response,* "Daddy says there's no such thing." *Normally she'd have some sort of internal debate about whether or not she believed in this, but something more important was on the brain. Her false smile disappeared as she asked,* "Can any of them be saved?! If they were... Corrupted I mean..."
*There was the "unless," the one glimmer of hope... and Rogue would know who she was talking about. It wasn't like she needed something else to focus on, what with the jungle rot, but she couldn't help it; if she could save someone deep to her, she would take the opportunity! If it were the planet she dwelt upon, her own mother...
... or a man who was willing to give up his life for a little girl he'd just met.*

The trip to Felucia was thankfully uneventful and remarkably boring. Jevn didn't care much for public transport. It was slow, passengers tended to be overly solicitous and he had to dress in civilian garb. That was his choice, however...Jedi attracted attention, and whether good or bad, Jevn preferred to avoid attention at all costs. He did his best to keep to himself, munching on his own snacks and water that he packed instead of using the allotted relocation stipend in the transport's food court. He could have gotten a ticket on a private shuttle to his new duty station, but he convinced the Coruscanti Jedi that it wasn't necessary. He didn't like spending money unless he had to. Maybe it came from growing up with very little, and training at an academy that was, rightfully, frugal.
When he was taken as an apprentice by a knight stationed at Coruscant, however, the lifestyle had been far more luxurious than he was accustomed to. He never had quite gotten used to it. Even though he had been knighted a few years ago, he had been charged to remain on Coruscant, despite his requests to be transferred back to Yavin. Jevn suspected that they wanted to keep an eye on him as he acquired his initial experience as a knight before sending him off. Felucia wasn't Yavin, but from what he could tell from the research he did before setting off, it was similar in climate and tundra. The strong connection the planet had with the Force also interested him.
Jevn felt it as soon as he entered the atmosphere. It was all around him and filled him, easily and readily, it seemed. He had never felt this way before. The closer they came, the stronger it became. He couldn't even imagine what this would do to his Force-usage. The transport landed in a nearby city, and from there Jevn contracted other forms of transportation to the Jedi compound. He approached the entrance still in civilian clothing, feeling both tired from the trip, yet revitalized from the enhancement to his Force connection.
He briefly stopped in the gardens outside the entrance, admiring them before he noticed a pair discreetly talking. He quickly made his way inside the building so not to disturb them, his small pack in tow.

As Chalco came hurrying through the lobby with a stack of datacards, pads and readers cradled in his arms he caught sight of the newcomer in plain clothing making his way towards the interior of the base. Quickening his pace the Falleen Jedi allowed his long legs to carrying rapidly across the lobby in the man's wake. He had been with Aerandir when news of the posting of one Jedi Marona to Felucia came through over the secure holonet and the Force, along with some logical assumptions, alluded him to the fact that this was him.
He caught up just as they were passing through the huge double doors that linked the courtyard to the lobby, coming up besides the newcomer and glancing to his right with a slight tilt of the head.
"Jedi Marona I assume? Welcome to Felucia."
He made a slight gesture that managed to turn the slight rise and fall of the equipment he carried into a shrug of apology. With deft positioning he directed their walk towards the classrooms and lecture halls as he continued his greeting with a slightly apologetic tone.
"I am afraid you have caught me at a rather bad time. I have a class to attend to at this time but I can easily get someone to show you to quarters if you would like to get settled..."
An eyebrow arched on his reptilian features, a pondering look that seemed to size the man up.
"Unless you'd like to join me in my venture into the madness of teaching? Dive in at the deep end as it were..."

Jevn blinked as the Falleen hurried up to him, overloaded with educational resources in his arms. He waited still and quiet while the Jedi welcomed him, nodding at his last sentence. Thank you, yes, please lead the way to the class. He motioned to the equipment in the Falleen's arms as he took a few steps forward. May I help you with those, Jedi...? Jevn raised his own eyebrow in question with a slight smile.
The formality of Coruscant had "refined" him in a way. He certainly was far different a person than he was as a boy on Yavin. But that was big city life on the capital, constantly surrounded by dignitaries, politicians, royalty, all manner of their staff and thousands of different cultures. Jevn was surprised to find himself suddenly feeling out of place in this more humble location, even though he'd been here a mere few minutes. Normally he visited places like this on missions, but the fact that he was not returning to Coruscant hit him.
