=Hadrig= Hadrig sat quietly in the shade of an ancient oak tree near the center of the village as he contemplated the recent political developments in the senate, the increasingly violent and warmongering state of the galaxy, the ever-increasing strain to keep Drall from being caught up in the wars with the Mandalorians and the Sith, and, more generally, the meaning of life and the meaning of pacifism. Occasionally, he sipped from a styrocup of stimcaf, and occasionally his head sank for a moment as he nodded off. The Wingrider had many thoughts and concerns on his mind, but fortunately, they remained distant, and Drall was still a place of peace. But for how much longer?

Almost the very instant that the intrasystem transport shuttle landed in Meccha, the Jedi Knight was out of her seat and opened herself to the Force, listening and feeling as she collected her bag from the topside bin and exited into the spaceport terminal. Kay'li had received word of the High Council's appointments, and as a newly minted member of the Council of Reconciliation, her first task would evidently be to locate one of her new council members. Broon Krano, a fellow Jedi Knight, was on assignment somewhere on Drall, and since Kay'li herself was already in the Corellian system, it made much more sense for her to simply go find him in person than to waste time sending messages back and forth. There were urgent matters for the council to decide.
After identifying herself to officials at the spaceport, she was quickly cleared, and made her way out into the streets of the quiet town that served as Drall's capital. Kay'li smiled to herself, almost ashamed of the recognition her name had sparked. It sometimes seemed like everyone in the entire star system knew the Raganella name, even if they didn't know her face, either because of her father or her brother. It opened doors and made her job as a Watchwoman easier, but the fame was also dangerous, and she almost despised it. It was better to be an unknown and to quietly follow the will of the Force. With a shrug, the young Corellian shook off the frustration and scanned the street for a likely starting place.
A small, brightly lit tapcaf a half block ahead on the left side of the street caught her eye almost immediately. At first, she wasn't sure why, other than perhaps a subconscious prodding by the Force. But as she neared the entrance, she realized what the (additional?) attraction was. The doorway and front windows were brightly lit with yellow neon lights, the favored color of a Jedi Sentinel. And Broon and Kay'li were both Sentinels, according to the brief profile the young woman had been given. Well, then.
Cautiously, she pushed the door open and went inside, her green robes swirling silently.

It had been several weeks since his arrival on Drall and his mission here was complete. He had discovered that someone had been taking Drall scientists but he was unable to discover who it was, they were very good at covering their tracks, but now it seemed they were gone. He would have to follow up on the few leads that he had gotten. It seemed his time on Drall was at an end, but there was one last thing he must do, have a meeting with the Drall Duchess Heldig who had asked him to help with a growing predator problem on the outskirts of town. Which is what had brought him to this small establishment, he needed to inform her that her crested arrow ibbot problem was now in check. His attention was drawn momentarily to the door as it opened and a beautiful woman dressed in green stepped through, it was but a moment his eyes glanced from the Duchess and quickly returned. She was Jedi, there was no doubt in his mind, but why was she here? He wondered. His first thoughts wer of Johnny, could something have happened? He pushed the thought from his mind and focused attention on the Drall. Your predator troubles are gone for now, Duchess Heldig. He spoke in Drallish. I do recommend that you devote some resources to keeping it that way. And of course, if there is anything else I can help you with in the future, please, do not hesitate to ask.
He smiled and gave a shallow bow as the Dutchess said thank you and walked away, passing the female Jedi as she exited the building. Broon turned his body to face the woman, his eyes meeting hers for a brief moment before he walked to a nearby table and sat down.He was certain that she was her for him, but for what he did not know. Good news? Bad news? Was the Council checking up on him? He hadn't been in contact with them for some time now, having been deep in an investigation. Her purpose here could be a number of reasons, and he would not speculate as to what they were, but instead would listen to what she had to say.

There had not been many pictures of Jedi Knight Krano in the Jedi archives, but there had been enough. Kay'li caught sight of the man just as he finished a conversation with a female Drall -- probably a Duchess by her age and regal manner -- and she knew instantly that it was him. As the young man turned and made eye contact, she smiled the crooked Corellian smile. It was not a smile she would have given when delivering bad news, but if he were to sense her presence in the Force, the young Corellian woman was also somewhat weighed down by the importance of her task. A lot had been entrusted to them both, and she was not here on some trivial errand.
"Broon Krano, I presume? I am Jedi Knight Kay'li Raganella, from Corellia." she said, cutting straight to her mission. "I have some important news for you, from the Jedi Council." She eyed him for a split second, judging his reaction to this announcement, then her gaze shifted, searching for some quiet spot where they could talk in more privacy. There was an empty table almost at her right elbow, but it it had no privacy. That wouldn't do. Maybe off to the left? Yes, against the wall, she spotted an empty booth, with high-backed benches that enclosed it on three sides. Perfect. Hew news wasn't exactly a secret, but it was somewhat sensitive to the Jedi Order, at least at this stage. Inclining her head toward the empty booth, she asked "Do you have time to discuss it now?"
That last question, she realized with the internal equivalent of a wince, had been an afterthought. She had practically run in here assuming that Knight Krano would have time for her, and it was only when she became speaking that her normal caution and courtesy caught up with her, and she realized that he might be busy. He had, after all, been sent to Drall on a mission, But maybe his meeting with the Drall matriarch and her subsequent departure meant the matter was settled. The Force's timing was almost superior to her own.

Kay'li should not have worried, as Knight Krano had actually just completed the main part of his mission. As was usually the case when one trusted the timing of the Force, he had plenty of time to discuss their shared assignment and what it would mean for the two knights and for the Jedi order moving forward. Broon was gracious with his time and wise in his suggestions, and Kay'li was quite pleased with the outcome. Trading comlink frequencies, they parted company, and the young Corellian woman exited the tapcaf, her mind racing with ideas for expanding the work and purposes of the Jedi Council of Reconciliation.
Her smile slightly askew, she wandered slowly though the Drall village, her steps carrying her to the edge of the city, and beyond, into the countryside.

=Hadrig= The tumult and war-mongering in the Senate and the scandals involving Kuat and Ryloth had caused Senator Hadrig's emotions to boil over. A less peaceful being would have lathered himself into a rage, but the Drall had simply gone home to his private quarters in the Galactic City, locked the door behind him, and wept for the Republic. But he did not have much time to himself for his grief. His constituents back home were demanding answers, and he decided that it was his duty to deliver those answers in person. There was nothing he could accomplish on Coruscant anyway, until the uproar had settled down to it's usual level.
And so here he was, wandering on the edge of the village. It had done his people good to hear the explanations from his own lips, even if he was the bearer of bad news, and it had done Hadrig good to come home. His overwhelming sense of defeat in his pacifist agenda and his despair for the future peace of his planet melted away as he absorbed his home air and the peaceful calls of avians and the rustling of leaves. He knew what evils lay beyond the Republic's borders (and even within it) but all those concerns seemed far off now.
Glancing ahead, he noticed a young Jedi woman, and quickened his step. By her green cloak, he knew she was most likely from the Corellian Academy, and as he got closer, he recognized her as the Jedi Knight Kay'li Raganella.
"Hello, old friend." Hadrig exclaimed.

"Senator Hadrig!" The Jedi Sentinel gasped in surprise. "I did not expect to see you here, with all the recent upheaval in the Senate." She glanced around, but they were alone among the trees, almost out of sight of Meccha. The Drall looked tired, and she could sense his weariness through the Force as well. But he also seemed to be at peace. She could sense great darkness and frustration within his sense, but it was buried deep. He had put it out of his mind for the time being, even if it were as yet unresolved. "I hope everything is ok?" She asked. "You are a credit to your people and your race, even if the Senate at large does not agree with the Drall agenda."
She had a certain fondness for the pacifism of the Drall. At first she had thought it short-sighted and idealistic, but once she had observed it in practice over a number of years, she saw that the implementation was pragmatic. It was not that the Drall never fought, or were incapable of defending themselves if necessary, but rather, they aimed to be skilled enough in diffusing conflict that they never had to defend themselves with lethal force. And at least in recent years, the strategy had been working. The principles were not unlike those of the Jedi Order. To Kay'li, being a Jedi meant being a peacemaker and a peacekeeper first, and a warrior second. Her job as the Watchwoman of the Corellian Sector did not mean she was the SWAT team. No, if she were to fully carry out her duties, she had to be much more than that.
Half-kneeling to bring herself to a comparable height with the short, fuzzy alien, she extended her arms for a hug.

=Hadrig= *The Drall smiled, but it was the thin smile of a creature who does not entirely believe the comforting words he has just heard.* "It is good to see you again, Knight Raganella." *He replied.* "I decided that I needed to get away from the bickering and the warmongering for a few days. It was killing me slowly, from the inside out. Between you and me, I figured I wouldn't miss much, and even if I did, the current climate is one which will ignore me anyway." *He sighed, and glanced upward at the treetops for a moment.* "This is a place of peace, and it reminds me why I get out of bed in the morning. But you should not flatter me. My words of wisdom and warning have gone unheard, and not only the Republic but Drall herself may be endangered as a result." *For just the briefest of moments, something dark crept into his eyes.*
*But then it was gone again, and he shrugged a shoulder.* "But that's another topic for another day. I promised myself I wouldn't think about it today." *He smiled again, and this time it was the toothy smile of someone who is at peace as he buried himself in the larger being and hugged his old friend. He didn't get to be this informal on Coruscant, and another wave of relief ran over him. This had definitely been a therapeutic day so far. There truly was no place like home.*

The young Corellian woman smirked. She would have said more about the Republic, and her own optimism on its future, but she knew the time wasn't right. Hadrig was wise to take a vacation from the pressures of the capital planet. Politics was a machine, and if one lingered too long under it's grasp and away from the real world of everyday life, it would swallow you up and convert you into a machine in its own image. And, if we were being honest, a Jedi faced the same risks. That was why Kay'li had committed herself to the path of a Sentinel and a Watchwoman.
"Good idea." Kay'li responded as she let go of the hug and straightened to her full human height once more. "So how is life here on Drall for your people? Quiet as always, I hope." She glanced around once more, at the lush trees, and the swooping avians, and the buzzing insects. It sure looked quiet. But she never liked to leave a planet until she'd actually talked to a few people. A Jedi should never make assumptions. Her senses could be fooled.

=Hadrig= *The thick, furry alien nodded solemnly.* "Yes, indeed. Everything is well, for the time being." *He beamed, an amused look in his eyes.* "You would be the first to know, if that changes. Probably even before I found out. You know that as well as I do. You have the Force, and I have a long commute to an overpopulated planet full of selfish ambition." *It was only too true. Hadrig's responsibilities were more interplanetary than domestic, and he was not as knowledgeable as he had been in his days as a wingrider. He still heard all the news eventually, he just didn't get to watch it unfold before his eyes anymore.*
*Hadrig sighed, and reached deep into his fur, pulling out a large chrono on the end of a delicate gold chain. Glancing at it momentarily, he compressed his lips into a look of resignation, and the bowed slightly to the human woman.* "I must beg your forgiveness, Knight Raganella, but I have an appointment for lunch with the Dutchess, and I must take my leave." *And with that, he turned and disappeared into the forest, his pace quickening slightly. He was still calm, just with a new sense of purpose and desire to please his hostess.*

As the Drall left for his social obligation, Kay'li turned and re-entered Mecca, making her way to the spaceport and boarding a commuter shuttle back to Corellia. Her mission on Drall now completed, she returned to the Academy on Corellia to pursue the next phase of her new duties. Balancing her administrative duties to the Council of Reconciliation with her practical, active duties as the Watchwoman for the Corellian Sector would require increased focus and discipline, but she was confident in her abilities and her capacity to handle both roles. In neither case was she the only Jedi responsible for these activities, and that gave her peace of mind.

Senator Hadrig's House
As a sparsely populated planet, focused around small, matriarchal villages, many of them hidden among the woods, Drall was not a planet that required a Senator to have massive home offices, or hundreds of staff, or ornate dining rooms, or hundreds of speeders and chauffeurs at the ready. Instead, Hadrig's main office on Drall was situated in a one-story additional wing of his stately, two-story ancestral home in Meccha. The property was wooded, although the brush and trees had been well cleared from all sides of the house, for security reasons. Two or three guards strolled leisurely about the property, armed with the same characteristic nonlethal weapons as the Drall police force. All in all, it was a peaceful place, inside and outside the whitewashed walls.
But all of that was about to change ...

Just as the local police forces patrolled the villages, and Hadrig's small team of private guards patrolled his house and grounds, the legendary Wingriders continued to watch over the planet and its people from their aerial mounts. Hadrig himself had long since retired from the art of wing-riding, but many other young Drall, especially those with small and nimble frames, volunteer for the prestigious honor. It was their watchful eyes, and their cadre of stun weaponry, which kept the peace in the sleepy countryside of Drall, away from the main villages. Anyone who sought to approach Hadrig's house from the air could expect to draw attention and a polite "hello."

Ex-Senator Hadrig's HouseAs a sparsely populated planet, focused around small, matriarchal villages, many of them hidden among the woods, Drall was not a planet that required a Senator to have massive home offices, or hundreds of staff, or ornate dining rooms, or hundreds of speeders and chauffeurs at the ready. Two or three guards strolled leisurely about the property, armed with the same characteristic nonlethal weapons as the Drall police force. All in all, it was a peaceful place, inside and outside the whitewashed walls. But all of that was about to change ... The droid was an abomination to behold. He had once been a standard model C-series protocol droid, but someone with more engineering knowledge than design aesthetics sense had retrofitted him to have FOUR arms, and he was every bit as clunky looking as he was rusted out. But he was functional, and somehow, he was able to walk upright despite his extremely high center of gravity. For all of his hideous appearance, there was secret genius behind the messenger droid's abilities. =C-8O8=Octopus, as his creator had so 'lovingly' named him, trudged through the underbrush, and pushed his way into the clearing that surrounded the former Republic Senator's house. The gangly droid paused obediently as he drew the attention of one of Hadrig's personal security guards. Greetings, Meatbag. I have a message for the Head of State. My master wishes to assist Drall in maintaining its continued demilitarization and neutrality.

Ex-Senator Hadrig's House
=Guard= The security guard looked up at the oddball droid with a mixture of confusion and bemusement. "There is no 'Head of State' on Drall." He shook his head slowly, his brow furrowing. Galactic politics had been getting stranger and stranger ever since the collapse of the Republic. He couldn't imagine why any offworlder would come to the planet just to see a powerless former Senator. "But if it's retired Senator Hadrig you wish to speak with, I'm sure that can be arranged." He eyed each of the droid's four arms in turn, his claw twitching slightly on his stun-stick. "Whom shall I say your message is from?"
=C-8O8= My master wishes to remain anonymous for now. The droid responded in a matter of fact tone, his photo-receptors blinking a couple of times. Suffice it to say, he is a native of the Corellian system, and wishes to ensure the continued peace of the Five Brothers in the post-Republic era.

Ex-Senator Hadrig's House
=Guard= The fur on the guard's forehead crinkled. As a member of the ex-Senator's security detail, he was on high alert for unusual occurrences exactly like this one. "Very well, I will relay your request to the Senator." He responded in as neutral a voice as he could manage. His eyes flickered to the switch on his stun-stick, checking that it was at a sufficient power level to take down a malevolent droid. If this was a trap, he was going to be ready.
=C-8O8= Thank you. My master appreciates your hospitality Again, the droid's tone revealed nothing.
=Guard= The guard pressed his lips together in frustration. He was pretty good at reading people, even humans and other non-Drall, but this hunk of metal had been programmed to be unreadable. Turning away from the droid, but keeping it in sight in the corner of his left eye, he spoke inaudibly into his earpiece for a moment. Then, he turned back around, and looked the droid in the eye, asserting control of the situation as he responded. Follow me. The Senator will see you.
Turning, he led the droid through the gardens and grounds to a side entrance, where two more Drall were waiting inside a vestibule to one side of the door.
=Screener= One of the Drall, an unusually light-furred tawny female, was holding a hand-held scanner. She motioned for the droid to stop and extend its arms, then wanded it up and down, checking for any contraband. "He's clear." She said to the first guard, before addressing the droid. "Thank you, you may proceed."

Ex-Senator Hadrig's House
=C-8O8= Having passed the test, which he found more theatrical than effective, Octopus entered the office wing of the Wingryder estate, and found himself in a small reception area. However, there was no one behind the receptionist's desk, and the room looked as if it were rarely used in recent times. Instead, leaning up against an inner doorway stood former Senator Hadrig, who was himself still a somewhat young man by Drall standards. The droid scanned the room slowly, but detected no other lifeforms, and so he turned to face the Senator.
=Hadrig= "Welcome friend, what brings you to my humble corner of the galaxy?" He asked, flashing a welcoming smile. "The guards said you have a message for me from your master?"
=C-8O8= Pleased to meet you, Senator. Octopus began, his voice whining slightly as if his modulator was starting to fail. Yes, I do. I am Cee-Eight-Oh-Eight, and I have been programmed specifically for diplomacy and peace-keeping. And lying. My master is what you might consider an information broker, and he, like you, is committed to preserving the peace of our Corellian system. He wishes to offer his services to you, now that you have lost the intelligence resources of the Republic Senate.
=Hadrig= "I see." The Drall scratched his furred chin. "Well, come in, and you can tell me all about it." He backed up and spun through the doorway into his private office, motioning for the droid to follow. The anonymous offer was most odd, but the droid was right. He did need better information. The Drall were pacifists and isolationists by nature, and the increasing expansion of the Corellian Coalition had become a sore point. The average Drall would have preferred to limit their boarders to the Corell star system, or, at absolute most, the borders of the Corellian Sector.

Ex-Senator Hadrig's House
=C-8O8= When they were both seated in the former Senator's office, C-8O8 began his pitch to the Drall. Senator, I know that you may find a droid to be an unusual messenger, but my master believes in precision, and wishes to avoid any misunderstandings. He knows that I will relay information with perfect recall, unlike organic beings. Likewise, I cannot be bribed, as I have been programmed not to accept them. He paused for half the length of an average Drall's breath, to let this sink it. Our organization is made up of Drall and other species native to the Corellian Sector, and much like you, we wish to preserve Corellia from unnecessary participation in foreign conflicts. Toward this goal, we collect and analyze political and military data from inside and outside the Corellian Sector, seeking to identify future crises. He spread his hands. However, we have no power to act. We need political friends who can use our findings to advise the Coalition leadership on how best to protect our worlds. The droid was cunning. He may have been programmed to do his master's perfect bidding, but that included lying and half-truths, when needed.
=Hadrig= The Drall let out a long sigh, and scratched his head behind his left ear. He was curious, and the offer could be genuine, it was not unlike a dozen special interest organizations he'd encountered on Coruscant. "Why come to me? I'm out of the game." And why the furtive approach, if this was so benevolent? But he kept his suspicions to himself for now.

Ex-Senator Hadrig's House
=C-8O8= A wise question, Senator. The droid replied, his face seeming almost to convey a smile, if that were possible. My master said you might ask that. But you sell yourself short. You are one of the few Drall with any offworld political connections. You are respected throughout the Five Worlds. You have a track record, and people know you. Your opinion still carries a great deal of weight, whether you hold an office or not. There is no one else who can speak up at an intergalactic level on behalf of the Drall with more authority than you can. His appeal was surprisingly emotional for what had initially seemed to be an emotionless automaton.
=Hadrig= The retired Senator sighed, frustration rippling through his fur. He had concede that this ... machine had made some very good points. But why? What was the end game? "Very well." Hadrig said, letting out a deep breath. "Let us say I agree to become a consumer of your organizations reports. What then?" He rubbed his furry chin, and stared pointedly at the droid. "You know I will keep my own council about whether your intelligence has value or whether your analyses are correct. My endorsement is not for sale."
=C-808= Why yes, of course, we would expect nothing else. The droid lied. In fact I am sure our researchers would appreciate your feedback if there are any conclusions with which you disagree. We would be fools not to accept the aid of your vast knowledge. This was working to perfection, or so the droid thought. He was reeling in the Senator now. If only he knew what a useful pawn he was about to become.
=Hadrig= Hadrig pressed his lips together, the flattery not at all satisfying his uncomfortable suspicion that something was amiss. "Alright, fine." He waved a hand in the air, dismissing the droid. "Send over some of your reports, and if I like them, we can discuss further."
=C-808= The droid nodded, and, having been reprogrammed from his initial C-series instincts to know when to stop talking, turned on one heel and departed.
