Alexis disposed of her tray and then followed Ander into the turbolift. A muscle along her jawline tightened momentarily as she was thinking. She wanted friendship, and it had seemed that they were well on the way to forging one. And then other things had happened, and now everything was complicated. Alexis didn't want complicated. She preferred clear-cut delineations in her personal life. Not that she had ever spent much thought on her personal life, since in truth it really was more of a background issue in her opinion. But, what had happened between her and Ander seemed like the proverbial white elephant in the room, and while she had enjoyed it immensely at the time, she did not know what ramifications it would have on the future. Hopefully none, but she wasn't naive enough to actually believe that.
She visibly pulled herself together to inquire, "So, you've run slave systems through it and can operate with a skeleton crew?" Just like the Dark Force...but not, if the amount of crew she had felt around her so far was any indication. She'd found the story of the missing Katana fleet to be very interesting, and she had stayed up long beyond Alora's imposed curfew on a couple occasions reading with her datapad covered in blankets so the residual light wouldn't call down upon her the notice of the older woman. The memory brought a smile to her face.
Alexis nearly told him not to talk with his mouth full, but caught herself in time with just the hint of a faint blush, and a look of puzzlement as she wondered where in the world that impulse had come from. When Nathan had rescued her, she'd been a gutter-rat by force of environment. Many hours of time and effort later, Alora had finally managed to turn her into a polished individual though with traces of an old-world, arcane charm. Alexis frowned. "Battle Meditation. No." That hadn't been what she meant and the idea of it made her feel nearly sick inside. Reaching out to enhance, touch willingly, and influence other minds was not something she would ever willingly do. It was much different from the old Bonds that spread between Dragon Squadron and allowed them to work together in close synchronization as a result of familiarity and hours of flight time spent together. It wasn't that she thought she couldn't do it...rather, her dread of the idea stemmed from her childhood on Nar Shaddaa, and the fact that she knew she could. "I meant actually fly it in the traditional manner."

Ander shrugged as Alexis confirmed his statements regarding the Hand's automated systems. He hadn't missed her moment of introspection, though refrained from commenting on it as the turbolift slowed to a halt. "It's more automation in absence of the crew than it is a slave system." Ander clarified as the lift doors opened and the two stepped out onto the command bridge of the Basterd's Hand. The two bridge guards standing on either side of the turbolift doors were garbed in full combat gear, their gear packs set on the floor at their feet. They nodded to Ander in silent greeting as he brought Alexis to the command chair at the center of the bridge. "You'd be hard-pressed to pilot this thing yourself." Ander said, looking pointedly at the navigation stations located in depressions on either side of the bridge's center walkway, where a score of soldiers were seated. A quiet flurry of activity greeted them, console operators were walking back and forth between stations to relay reports and compare information, others remained at their seats operating their respective systems. "Welcome to the command bridge of an Imperial Star Destroyer, Alexis." Ander said, the hint of a smile coming to his lips as he rested his hand on the command chair. The chair turned slightly as he did so, revealing its occupant to be a Mon Calamari male, his age denoted by the greying tendrils that quivered around his wide lips and shallow chin. The soldiers on the bridge were unlike any that might be found on a vessel such as a Star Destroyer. All were garbed in full combat armor, their weapons resting in docks set into the walls and bulkheads at their respective stations. All wore side arms on their hips or chest, and none of them were without the Mandalorian-style helmet denoted by the T-shaped visor at the face. It was a much different experience, walking onto the bridge of a GALSAF vessel, for every crew member was in fact a commando trained in the same ways as the organization's main combat forces. "Alexis Karidian, meet Jethroe Staton, Lord Admiral of GALSAF's Naval Task Group." Ander introduced the two pleasantly. Staton dipped his head slightly in acknowledgement of the new arrival. "Pleased to meet you, Miss Karidian." Staton replied in gurgled Basic. "It's not often we bring guests to places like this." Staton's comment was oriented more towards Ander, who merely smiled in return. "She's a Yavinite, much like you and I once were, Staton. Be friendly." Staton's chin tendrils shook and a watery choking sound erupted from the back of his throat. "Then to you I say welcome." He said, holding out a webbed hand for Alexis to grasp. The Mon Calamari focused his large, bulbous eyes on Alexis' own. "I heard the news about the Praxeum. You have my most sincere condolences, young lady." Ander cleared his throat loudly enough to catch the Admiral's attention. "Let's avoid that topic for the moment, Jethroe, if you don't mind." The Admiral bowed his head once more, muttering his apologies.

Alexis stepped out on the bridge of the Basterd's Hand slightly behind Ander as this was his home after all. She was surprised at the presence of all the heavy armour as she would have thought it would only get in the way on a ship like this. Frankly, unless one was expecting to either fend off a boarding party or land one somewhere else, she didn't see that it would be of much use. The main danger on a capital ship was most likely the vacuum of outer space. Still, it wasn't her call.
"I wouldn't try," she responded dryly to Ander. There was a vast difference between something like this with semi-decentralized control stations requiring a crew effort, and the centralized computer of her snubfighter. She knew which she preferred, but each ship had its own strengths and weaknesses. And an Imperial Star Destroyer tended to make an opposing force think twice.
Alexis half-bowed to the Mon Calamarian Admiral. He was from Yavin? Not as a Jedi, she thought. She would have run across that one before now hopefully. From what she knew the residents of Mon Calamari tended to direct their energies elsewhere. "Admiral Staton, you have my thanks." Not only for the sympathy, but also allowing her presence on the command bridge, probably under duress of some kind if she had to guess.
"I'm alright, Ander," she quietly reassured him with a gentle pressure of her hand on his upper arm as she stepped past him and walked slowly down the center walkway observing the activity around her as well as the magnificent view of Contruum.

Having let his connection to the Force fade away over the years, Ander wasn't the type to read minds, though he could read Alexis' expression as she took in the view around her. He saw it in the way her eyes lit up, the way her lips twitched, which caused her cheeks to shift slightly. He leaned towards her, muttering under his breath, "Thanks to this armor, the vacuum of space is all these soldiers have to worry about. A GALSAF commando is always ready for a fight, no matter what shape or form it takes. Our soldiers live in their armor, and as such, are not inhibited by it." The pride in Ander's voice was as apparent as it was in his demeanor, hands clasped behind his back, his posture relaxed and informal. Ander watched as Alexis accepted the Admiral's greeting, dismissing Ander's worry over his topic of choice. He was glad to see she was not hindered emotionally by it, though he could tell she did not recognize the Mon Calamari. "Admiral Staton led the Yavin Four Defense Force when I was still a Jedi." He explained casually, watching as Alexis made her way down the catwalk and gazed outside the wide series of triangular viewports ahead of her. Ander joined her, nodding politely towards the Admiral. He casually slid his arm through hers, accompanying the younger woman to the forefront of the command deck to gaze upon the planet below. "Contruum was the location of our first major engagement as a collective force." Ander explained briefly. "Almost a year ago, the Sith Lord Nexus sought to test the might of Lady Tanith Desaevio, an old friend of mine. We repelled him, at great cost." The former Jedi fell silent for a moment as he recalled the casualties both GALSAF and Contruum's defending men and women had suffered, both military and civilian. "His sort of evil is what we seek to remove from the Galaxy. No man is right to test the might of a single person by ending the lives of innocent people. GALSAF seeks to stop such evil wherever it may be found." Ander gently squeezed Alexis' arm, stifling his own sadness in the process. "Seeing as how I could not be the man I wanted to be as a Jedi, I left the Order in pursuit of such ideals. I believe I have found them here, among these brave beings I have turned into commandos..." Ander's voice trailed off, leaving behind thoughts of both regret and resolve.

Ander was obviously paying close attention to Alexis, perhaps focusing solely on her even, if he was watching closely enough to guess at what she was thinking. She would rather have died than accept a life in a suit of armor as she was used to her freedom of movement. It seemed to her to be a narrow and confining existence, but if others wished to choose it, who was she to say so? As she was a guest, she did not speak of this.
"Ah, I see," Ander's clarification of Admiral Staton's position within the Yavinite Defense Force made sense. She imagined that things had been very different on Yavin when he was there as part of the Academy. She could tell that even though the Yavinites had not talked about it, there was a lingering sense of hurt that still haunted the halls there. She determined she'd find out more about this, but she would have to do it the hard way since...well, since there wasn't really anyone left on Yavin to ask, and she sensed that Ander himself would not be comfortable talking about it.
As he slid his arm through hers, she stiffened in surprise, "Tanith?!" Sure, her life had been somewhat sheltered, but not that much and she'd been making up for lost time ever since Nathan brought her to Osarian initially, and then Yavin IV. "Sorry," she clarified quietly, wondering what the relationship between Tanith and Ander had been, though she could guess, "I've just never heard the appellation 'lady' applied to her before..." she let her voice trail off, unsure where to go from there.
She turned back in tandem with Ander given that he'd looped his arm closely through hers, in order to examine the starboard side helm control. "I'm glad that you have found it then," she responded in a low tone of voice. Some people spend their entire lives searching for a source of happiness, or whatever else their personal goals might be. Many never find it. If Ander had finally forged the entity from which he could carry out a good thing, then she was pleased on his behalf.

Ander smiled as Alexis expressed her understanding of Staton's former position. "Admiral Staton is one of many who followed me after I left the Praxeum and sought to establish GALSAF." While he did not clarify the issue any further at the moment, Ander remained open to the opportunity, should Alexis seek to pursue the topic behind closed doors. As the young woman exclaimed her reaction to Tanith Desaevio's title, Ander chuckled shortly before explaining. "Tanith is one of those shades of grey, Alexis, that the Jedi have sought to distance themselves from in the past. She is a good woman, and a good friend." Ander subtly emphasized the word "friend" as if to make a quiet point, though as before he did not extrapolate further. He stayed with her on the center walkway, watching the planet rotate below them, smiling softly. "It is nice to have found a place to call home. Perhaps it's the result of growing up on a Rebel star cruiser, but I've learned that home is what you make of your situation, and the level of acceptance you extend to those around you." Ander fell silent for several moments, thinking of his place on Yavin IV. The moon itself had never been his home, nor had been the temple that he had helped rebuild. It had always been the people that made Yavin IV his home, and after he had proven to be unworthy of their love and companionship, Ander had lost his place there. While such personal struggles had led him to the formation of GALSAF, Ander could not help but regret being the man he had been for so long. It wasn't having been a Jedi that he was ashamed of. Indeed he was proud of his years with the Order. But the man he had been beneath the Master everyone knew…that was a man of shame and self-loathing. That was a man anyone would be right to despise. While he was always seeking to improve the man he was, Ander knew such a battle would be long and fought entirely uphill. Always harder was it to change who you were than it was to know who you wanted to be.

Maybe she would ask him about the time he left the Praxeum eventually. He seemed to be open to the possibility; however, even with his side of the story that would not stop her from attempting to find out what happened on Yavin from the other perspective as well, though that would be tricky to accomplish at this point in time.
She noted the emphasis on 'friend,' but given recent events she was not sure what friend in this case was being stretched to cover, given that she and Ander had been creating a friendship that had suddenly taken a different turn. Did she even want to ask or not? Alexis couldn't tell how it really mattered anyway. "Like we are 'friends'?" she inquired quietly with a sideways look up at him before returning her attention to a much more sophisticated nav-computer display than she had in her StealthX. Currently they were maintaining a stable orbit around Contruum.
"I still have a home, I think." Alexis replied tentatively. Her people were all gone, and with them everything that had truly mattered to her, but until she had finally settled things on Yavin she would not consider herself homeless. There were things she still needed to know. She contemplated Ander without actually looking at him. Given the mixed-up senses of inner conflict and self-hatred, just to mention a couple, she realized that perhaps he was even worse off than herself. She knew who she was and what she was supposed to do, even though she couldn't see herself there yet. And sometimes she was filled with doubts and misgivings, but at least she had a general direction to head along.

Ander arched an eyebrow at Alexis' question, unsure of whether she was joking or not. Either way, he understood the context, and replied easily. "No, not the way we are...friends." As Alexis' thoughts turned towards those of home, Ander began to think through what she might mean. Yavin IV itself was still in tact, all of its facilities untouched from what Alexis had already gathered. While it may never be the same home it was to either of them, the world would always be a home to someone. Maybe a world with such history was destined be a home. Ander considered this for a moment; he had been hoping to find a suitable place to establish a permanent presence for GALSAF. He wasn't sure Yavin IV was the right place, considering the history between the Praxeum and himself and many of his commandos. "Have you considered basing your fighter squadron at home?" He asked, referring to the planet via the colloquial term the two had seemed to silently agree meant 'Yavin IV.' Ander looked out of the viewport at Contruum's surface, remembering the battle they had fought there the year before.

"I see," Alexis replied slowly, unsure why she had asked in the first place. As things stood it wasn't likely to make much of a difference in her life anyway.
She thought about Yavin IV, the scars of battle still in its halls and rooms. It would take a lot of time to clean up a place filled with so many ghosts, but it could be done. "I have no fighter squadron...yet." She corrected him calmly, and maybe it never would happen. The future was hard to see with any certainty. "But yes, I have thought about it, often." The Dragon's Roost should not be left empty...though it wasn't empty now. Dragon Squadron's ships were still there, the fighters that had belonged to legendary Jedi pilots were there, waiting. Alexis wasn't sure which hurt most, the fact that they were still there, or the fact that their pilots would not be flying them again.
"Why?"

Ander shrugged, gently sliding his arm out from Alexis' and turning to face her. He took her hands in his as he thought of what to say. "Yavin Four was more than a planet, or a moon, rather. It was a symbol. Now, I'm not the type of man to have faith, but I recognize the power of symbols, and the legends that they're based on. I was with the Praxeum since before the Dragons' formation, and I can say from experience their presence in this Galaxy was for the better. If there's anyway we can remake Yavin into a new symbol for a new Galaxy...then I feel responsible for seeing it through." Ander squeezed Alexis' hands slightly, as if to emphasize his point. Her skin was amazingly soft for a Jedi Ander realized after a brief moment. Reorienting his attentions, Ander concluded his thought. "I built GALSAF from the ground up. We spent over a year recruiting across the Galaxy and came out of it all with a force of three-thousand strong. I'm certain we could find you the pilots you need to birth this symbol from the Dragon's ashes."

Ander's hand were warm and strong, as well as surprisingly gentle Alexis thought. However, that was beside the point, "A symbol must be based on reality. And reality is hard to build. It will take time." Alexis spoke her thoughts calmly, "I am not unappreciative of the offer of help," she looked up at him quickly, brown eyes meeting his unflinchingly, "but I shall see what happens. It is hard to know for sure the direction in which people are moving. But with time, who knows?" she shrugged elegantly, finally withdrawing her hands from Ander's grasp and folding them behind her back. It wasn't that she disliked the physical contact, she just found that it could be distracting if allowed to be so.

Ander nodded and stepped back as Alexis released her hands from his grip. "You're very right. And we have nothing if not time..." He trailed off for a moment, as if considering some grandiose plot. Ander considered Alexis' words again before offering his thoughts. "When I needed to reconnect with the ghost of my father, I traveled to Mandalore, to the homestead he built there for himself and my mother before I was born. It was a home we never shared as a family, but even derelict and bereft of memories, just being there gave me some answers." Ander looked out towards the stars beyond, a habit of his. He crossed his arms over his chest and sighed. "I think it's about time I go back to Yavin Four. For my own sake."

Time. Alexis nodded in agreement. Sometimes it felt like time was all she had, other times it felt like she had no time at all. "I would vastly prefer not to connect with a ghost. In my experience they are most unpleasant, and occasionally deadly." It wasn't a pun, although it was amusing. There weren't a whole lot of words to describe what she was meaning, but the fact that it was relating to ghosts and death made it a little odd.
"Perhaps it is," she replied gently. "I have a spirit from the past to --deal with first." And that would require a visit to Nar Shaddaa. Hopefully a visit only though, and nothing more permanent. Once that was dealt with, she could return to Yavin IV.

Ander tilted his head in slight confusion as Alexis replied with her own thoughts. There was something weighing on her mind, something beyond the scope of their mutual home of Yavin IV and the recent events that had chosen to surround it. He refrained from prodding for the time being, though Ander made a mental note to bring it up before Alexis left GALSAF's hospitality. He chose instead to elaborate briefly on his words regarding his father, glancing out into the space beyond as he did so. "When I spoke of ghosts, I referred only to his memories. There aren't many left of the man."

"Oh. I see. What do you remember then?" Alexis shifted gears and inquired. She should have known much quicker that he wasn't referring to ghosts in the way that she was. She turned to head back towards the turbolift entry to the command bridge. "My presence has probably irked the good Admiral enough, I think," she informed Ander. She knew that she didn't like unfamiliar people poking about her ship, and she figured this was the same type of thing, although necessarily on a different scale.

Ander considered Alexis' question for several quiet moments. While he lost himself in thought, she glanced around the bridge and zeroed in on the turbolift. Ander watched her disappear from the periphery of his vision as memories of his father ran through his mind. He hadn't thought about such memories for years, not even when Mai had traveled with him to Mandalore had he truly been thinking about the memories he held of his family. He thought about his father, to be sure, but rarely did images, words or actions come to the surface of his mind. Feelings yes, but little more. "I don't know." Ander muttered under his breath, directing the words towards himself. He spoke quiet enough to go unheard by any around him, including the Jedi woman. Ander looked up suddenly at the sound of Alexis' voice and withdrew from the mental version of his past, then followed Alexis to the lift and keying panel. He smiled at her briefly, then looked away as her question continued to bore into his mind.

Alexis could tell that Ander seemed lost in thought even before he joined her on the turbolift. Reaching around him she keyed for the hangar level as the doors slid closed and effectively separated them from the command crew. Her arms were folded loosely in front of her as she contemplated the flashing lights. Right now it seemed that everything was moving really fast after a period of stagnation. She smiled to herself as she remembered Mike telling her to be careful back on the Happy Harpy just before they'd run the Death Wind Corridor on the way to Roon. She wondered what he'd say if he had any idea of what had happened between her and Ander on the Basterd's Hand, undoubtedly he would disapprove. "Mmmph," Alexis grumbled to herself. No sense jumping starlanes before absolutely necessary. R8 was probably also growing impatient waiting for her to come back. Several times she'd thought about wiping his memory in accordance with typical procedure, but she'd never actually been able to do it. And now, well, she knew she couldn't do it now. He'd molded her StealthX's main computer into a reflection of his own fussy personality to the extent that he always had to be around to translate between the fighter and other maintenance droids. She shrugged. While he was often annoying, it was an annoyance that she would miss if it ever disappeared from her life.

Ander continued thinking as the turbolift shuddered and began to move. He had always had vague memories of his father, the type where you knew this or that thing happened, the event itself simply never ran through your mind like a holo-film might. Ander couldn't watch the events of his youth in his mind, as if his memory had a knowledge of things that had happened, but was hearing it second hand after having lost the original recordings. His mind switched gears and now he was thinking about the shape his mental facilities were in, before Alexis' mild gasp caught his attention. The young woman had obviously been embroiled in her own inner conversation and had reached some sort of conclusion about…something. Ander didn't even waste time pondering what it might be. While Alexis' emotions and experiences were not foreign to Ander, her as a person was. They had connected the night before through the ingestion of alcohol and a mutual dead friend, but they as people were only strangers to one another. Ander decided he didn't like that. "I'm going to Yavin Four, the next chance I get." He said suddenly, turning to look down at Alexis. "You're free to come with or do whatever you want, but I'm going. It's about time I did."

Alexis looked over at Ander unsurprised. She had already known that he would come back to Yavin IV someday, whether or not he'd admit it now. However, he seemed determine to make it happen. "I shall be there, after I take care of something first." Then she clarified, "What I mean is, I'll be there if I'm successful." If not, she'd most likely be dead, but she saw no need to say that. Ander sober was far more interesting than Ander drunk in some ways. She found herself wondering...
With a quick glance at the current position of the descending turbolift relative to its destination, she made a decision quickly so that she wouldn't have time to think about it till later. Wondering what it would be like to kiss him without the taste of alcohol and smoke on his breath, when he was in charge of what he was doing, she solved the puzzle for better or worse by stepping close to him, and with a low, "Sorry," she leaned up and kissed him, warm lips hovering about his for just a second, then stepped back and crossed her arms. "Wondered what that would be like, and didn't feel like wondering anymore." Now she could put it out of her mind.
"I'm going to Nar Shaddaa," she changed the subject quickly. That way if months later she had not made it to Yavin IV, someone would know where she'd met her end. Not that anyone needed to know, but for some reason it made her feel better.

Ander was still trying to puzzle out where Alexis might be heading to, or what she might be doing, when he was distracted by her stepping towards him. He reoriented his attention to her baseless apology. He was about to ask what the young woman had to be sorry about when she leaned up and pressed her lips against his in a kiss. Ander let her linger, the soft warmth of her lips reminding him immediately of the night before and that first tentative kiss they'd shared. Alexis soon pulled away, a semblance of closure over some unknown yet unresolved issue seeming to come over her. Before he had a chance to mull the moment over in his mind, Alexis mentioned Nar Shaddaa, which instantly drew his attention. "Nar Shaddaa?" Ander asked, narrowing his eyes. With GALSAF off mission for the next two weeks, Ander would have plenty of time to visit Yavin IV and pull the entire Academy's records. It would take weeks to sift through them all, but with Alexis' help he might cut that time in half. However, the young woman's tone gave Ander the impression she didn't wholly expect to make it off Nar Shaddaa alive, which piqued his interest more than it did worry him. "What's on Nar Shaddaa that might be worth your life?" He asked. He wasn't demanding an answer, though his tone might give off that impression. Alexis certainly wasn't his to order around, though Nar Shaddaa had been a desired target for GALSAF for some time already. The drug and slave markets in that part of the Galaxy all had a warm bed on Nar Shaddaa, a corrupt planet that pandered to the immoral. Ander suddenly had the urge to cancel shore leave, though he pushed the thought out of his mind.
