Titan caught the canteen and took a long drink from it, savoring the cool, metallic taste of water. At this point, he didn't really care what it tasted like, as long as it hydrated him somewhat. He turned around as the rest of the group started to catch up with the front line, watching the faces of the other recruits as they lurched towards the canteens. Most of them then proceeded to give the water weird looks, but they all drank it. Come on, they had just jogged forever, and had missed breakfast. They were thirsty as hell.
Finally the last of the line was getting water from the canteens, and a few of them were starting to look at the instructors, dreading what would happen next. Anytime they got "relaxation time" like they did now, it was a sign they were about to be worked extra hard, or otherwise suffer. Either way. Still, he was glad for the little bit of time they had gotten, and he looked at LE-9615 thankfully while he drank his water. His size was a sizable advantage during that activity, but now he owed him one. He'd have to even them up someway.

Aint no rest for the weary...
Once everyone had been hydrated the Xeobot came back, masquerading as the general still he looked at the group before him. His mind going over the different reports on each individuals run, pleased to see that the snippy one and the Iridonian had placed among the best of the best. Well done, we might be able to make some soliders out of you yet. Do not get to cozy though we still have another kilometer to go. They were either to tired or had finally learned to be quiet but there was not a single moan among them. Do not worry though theory is after this. The pen is mightier than the sword and all that.

Tarim collapsed on the bank of the stream bed along with the rest of the recruits, holding his canteen in one hand and his aching side in the other. It took him nearly a full minute to regain enough wind to even think about the water, but once he'd recovered enough he drank greedily, oblivious to the odd taste. Honestly he would've drank much worse at that point. Draining half of it before his thirst was slaked, Tarim finally stood and stretched his aching muscles, rolling his neck and wincing at the series of loud pops that followed.
"Kriffing fantastic." He whispered under his breath at the announcement. Another kilometer...he wasn't sure he could do it. Ah, but he would. If only to keep the fuggin' Xeobot out of his face.
Hooking the cantine on his belt, the Sorrussian fell in line with the rest of the recruits preparing to take off again, ending up next to a brown-haired human he was relatively certain he'd been next to in formations that morning.

The run was relatively short in comparison to the other one minutes before. It was still hard but hey there is no other way to move in here. Eventually though they would come to a room that could hold a few hundred, dominated in the center by a large holo projector. Once all the recruits had sat down and the talking had stopped the disembodied voice of a woman could be heard. Welcome recruits, today we are going to talk about Korrina and their prey. Then on the screen it showed the picture of the average Korrina found on Dantooine around the time of Revan. Going around in a circle zooming in on its key points the voice spoke again. The Korrina was a pack hunter on the moon of Endor. Although not large, nor terribly dangerous on their own they used superior numbers and tactics to take down more dangerous animals on the planet. Next showed a group of Ewoks. Cute Cuddly Ewoks. Hardly the physically imposing animals, they were still able take down the 501stThe next scene was of the single wolf and a single Ewok armed with a spear, on its own the Ewok not only could keep the beast at bay but also kill it. However add in the rest of the back and the Ewok was unable to be everywhere at once. It was often taken down from the side it was not looking by one or more of the animals. Do you understand why I am showing you this?

Watching the screen, it was obvious to me that the largest of the korrina had taken the role of keeping the attention of the Ewok, letting the others strike at its back while the furry being was distracted.
-Marcos, LE-9615 To show that the pack needs a distraction to draw the enemy's attention long enough to allow others to bring the enemy down.
Silently I added to myself that having the distraction capable of surviving was a large, but extra, benefit.

The electronic voice chuckled a bit before materializing on the holo screen. A woman cloaked in a lame blue outfit and glasses stood there. She looked like the average librarian, and she stared directly at Marcos. That is one way to look at it. Deception and lies are helpful in any battle or war. It can mean the difference between victory and defeat. The image shook her head but had a weak smile. The other way this could be looked at is that alone you are weak, victory unsure. Working as a team striking where the enemy isnt looking and just harrasing them to defeat is the way to go.

Pan walked through the training grounds his unseeing eyes looking over the different people training. Many were practicing combat techniques, swordsmanship, blasters and the force were being used.No one paid him any thought though, he was hardly tolerated in the corps. His milky white eyes shifted from the hues of blues and greys of the force, he was out here to practice but not the way they were doing.
Walking into a wooded grove the sounds had all but been left behind. Closing his eyes he opened himself to the force. He could feel everything around him as if it was an extension of his own body. The roots of the trees, the grass beneath his feet and the birds fluttering above his head. With his body one with the area around him he focused the force into his voice and he began to sing.
I see you are a seed, Tell me what do you need
Around him the tree branches began to rustle, the leaves brushing against one another. The sound absorbing anything that may have carried he continued on into the next verse his eyes now open watching what he was doing.
I need some soil to grow, And then the sun to glow,
Now the strangest of things began to happen. The trees grew. Slowly at first but gradually speeding up they branches pushed ever further outward, the force altering its growth. Speeding it up and bending the wood to his will.
Water to make me wet, Air for my leaves to get
The wood began to encircle the Dressellian, covering him and ensnaring him itn its grasp. Lifting his hands the trees moved, the branches carrying Pan up and up and up into the sky. All eyes below were now on him. Some in awe, others fear and he could even sense one person unimpressed. Now up outside the open roof structure he finished the song.
Space for my roots to spread, Now I'm a plant.
The song now done the trees swayed in the wind, the air was cool up here and he could see his breath. Had he been lower he may have sweated a bit but the wind had kept him cool. Fluttering by was a bird and once again he reached out in the force. Reaching out he calmed the birds mind, and promised he was no danger. He showed the creature calming images, and shortly after it landed on his outstretched hand. He just stayed there a moment marveling at his job. Enjoying his work, the solitude and having forgotten what Xeonon had toold him.

Just like almost every day for the last year Calvin Nullan once again found himself in the training room. He found that over time he actually started to enjoy his time in the training room. To him the physical activity almost seemed tranquil, he seemed more at peace. Most importantly, it gave him time to think.
Calvin took a deep breath before continuing his exercises. He was currently practicing his skill with his lightsaber. Remembering back it was surprising how early on he had been given his own weapon. Despite how deadly the glowing silver beam of the lightsaber was, in the end it was just a weapon, and it was only as deadly as the one who wields it. Most of his life he had been what you would probably call book smart. While he did still prefer that way of learning, he know understood the 'learn by doing' side of things. Taking his stance he sent out a few thrusts, parries and slashes against an imaginary opponent. Calvin found that he liked what was called the second form of lightsaber combat. Back on Naboo, he had been an avid fencer and some of the same skills that he had learned while fencing could be applied to the lightsaber. He found something familiar in that form. Familiar was a word that he hadn't gotten to use much as of late.
Switching to practicing the more defensive form 3 his mind wandered to the past year that he had been training with the imperial knights. It would not have been easy under normal circumstances, and the past year had been anything but normal. He picked up a small training remote off of the floor and activated it, watching as it hummed to life and floated at eye lever about five feet away from him. He brought his lightsaber to the ready and calmed his mind, soaking the force into him. The training bolts started flying at him as his mind continued to wander. So many things had happened, there was Mandalorian crusade. He was just a knight in training and he wouldn't have wanted to go into battle even if he was called to, not until he was ready. More importantly, at least to him was the death of the man that had saved his life, and brought him to the imperial knights. Although there had been some one on one instruction most of his instruction had been through others. Despite that his death still weighed on his heart and since then he felt that his training had not been proceeding on the same pace that it had before. At least then he had a master, since then most of his training had come after he had asked other senior knights for assistance.
Calvin recoiled as one of the training bolts hit his left shoulder, pain radiated from the impact for a few seconds as he was barely able to deflect another two bolts before shutting the remote down. He cursed under his breath, it had been a while since he had been hit by one, he forgot how bad it hurt even with his armor on. He took a moment to wait for the pain to die down. He then took a deep breath and reactivated the remote. This time he closed off his mind from all other thought besides himself, the remote and the force.

If war was good for anything it was for promotions. Just prior to the outbreak of the Crusade Panno had been a newly appointed Knight. Begrudgingly sent to the Battle of Prakith. It was there that through the hardships of the men stationed there, and timely intervention of the Imperial Knights that things had changed. For better or worse he didn't know. Xeonons death, him finally earning a mediocre amount of respect (for he was an alien in a human organization) and the destruction of the NOE. Still it felt hollow. Hundreds of thousands dead, dozens of knights and still somehow through the crazy hand to hand combat he had survived. The Holy War was no better and it saw the death of almost every Knight who was sent to face the Mandolrians.
Not him though, his master had died and it was Panno that took his place. Now he himself was a Master if only in name due to his honorific position as Armourer. Still it was better than nothing at least people respected him now.
On today of all the days Panno found himself in the training areas. The next batch of initiates had "come of age". Much like the Jedi who took apprentices once they reached a certain age of communal training the Imperial Knights did much the same. Unlike their counterparts though it wasn't based on age, as everyone was recruited at different ages. No this one was done by time spent training. On this Reaping Day it was both ecstatic and sorrowful. The Knights in training didn't know about this selection so they would all love the chance. The downer was that this was the last batch brought in by Xeonon.
And so the torch passes on...
Stalking the halls he looked in with a look of disgust and exasperation. All of them were human. Some were sparring, others meditation and others yet shooting or displaying other things thatset them apart. None of that matter to him though. They practiced skills of war, things that they did only to impress one another, not to make the galaxy better. He passed them as he had no time for beating the arrogance out of them.
At the end of the hall just when he had given up hope he saw a human. He looked noble, but unrefined. Almost as if he hadn't spent much time from wherever he came from. Watching though the window he saw him use his blade work to the letter. Almost as if he had read how to do it over and over, his technique was flawless. That was until something broke his concentration while using the defensive form. It happens and he managed to rectify his problem after a single shot but he knew how much it hurt from experience.
Walking into the room his armour filling the narrow doorway he looked down on Calvin. You. What is your name. He hoped that the past year had beaten into him the sense to answer his superiors without question. If not well this was going to take some time.

Although there were times in his training that gave him time to think, Calvin forgot how much concentration he needed when directly using the force. He had let one of the remotes training bolts get bast his defense. Sure it was just a minor inconvenience now, the pain had already receded, but in actual combat, that one seemingly insignificant bolt could of cost him his life. Despite the fact that he had been aware that he was force sensitive for over a year now, every time he was aware that he was accessing its power still astounded him. For now, the river of time seemed to be flowing in slow motion. When his mind was calm he was able to easily bring his lightsaber in front of every bolt fired by the remote, he could almost see where the bolts were going to be before the remote had even fired them.
Calvin continued to block another four bolts sent by the remote before a voice behind him broke his concentration. He was barley able to deflect one last bolt from the remote before once again deactivating the remote, watching it slowly hover to the ground while taking a few deep breaths. Deactivating his lightsaber he turned around and for a brief moment his face betrayed the surprise he felt at seeing the being in the doorway. Looking up at the man he had to be well over six feet tall, and with his armor on it looked as if he could barley fit through the doorway. Although just the size of the man in front of him was imposing he was also surprised to see a non human. Growing up on Naboo he hadn't exactly grown up on a world devoid of aliens, in fact he had interacted with them regularly. It was the fact that the Imperial Knights seemed to be a mostly human organization, and it had been a while since he had seen a non human. Although Calvin had no clue how he could have overlooked him.
He swallowed hard before remembering that the man had asked for his name.
Calvin Nullan.

Rolling the name on his younger he gave Calvin a once over before speaking again. His tone soft yet authoritative if such a thing was possible.
Come with me Initiate Nullan.
It wouldn't hurt to keep the man guessing (and waiting). It might put a little fear in the man if he left him to his imagination. They wouldn't be going far, just to the open air part of the training rooms were far above smoke could be seen from the city around them.

Calvin was confused, no that was not right. He was more curious then anything this knight was asking for him to go with him. Despite his curiosity he knew not to ask any questions of the man. He had learned not to question a superior when he was given an order.
Yes Sir.
Calvin followed the man although they did not go that far, in fact they never left the training rooms. Instead they ended up in the open air sections of the rooms. There he saw something that was both perplexing and unsettling. There was smoke rising from the city, a lot of smoke. He wanted to ask what was going on but stopped himself. From the demeanor of the knight that brought him here, Calvin thought it would be a good idea to let the man address him first.

He could sense the way the boy, for thats what he was in Pannos eyes, felt. His connection to the force was strong but it took the strongest of bonds between people to sense emotions, this was more like a colour in his head. A bright light of yellow was what he saw, and inferred from there. The smoke was indeed ominous but that could wait for now.
Calvin you have been training here for a year now correct. It was more a statement than a question and so he carried on. In addition to all the training you receive to become a fully fledged Knight you are encouraged to train yourself in something. In this day and age everyone wants to be a warrior, practicing guns, swordsmanship, flying. I can see swordsmanship isnt your forte. Although it was possibly hurtful Panno had not meant it to be, just a statement again. Tell me what have you spent your time learning.
His only real reason for asking was to see how hard this would be. He had already decided to take on this Human as his apprentice. What he wanted to know was if this would be an easy or hard enterprise. Would they get on like father and son, or like two male Kin Raths. Only time would tell and judging by that smoke that time would come a lot sooner than he had hoped.

Calvin simply nodded to the Knight. The tone made the question seem rhetorical, he already knew the answer so he continued to remain silent for the moment.
Calvin almost sighed at the knights statement, but he had learned over his year with the knights that it was best to keep some emotions to himself and not show it on his face. He thought for a moment, most of the time he had spent here was spent on the 'warrior' aspects that the knight had mentioned. Before coming here he had no idea how to hold a lightsaber, what end of a blaster to point at an enemy or even how to operate a speeder. However that was not everything that he had been studying. Most of the 'warrior' aspects he had been learning had been regimented. He had practiced some of those things on his own, however, he had spent most of his time working on accessing the force. This was something that he was still not good at.
To be honest sir, I have spent a lot of time on what you just said. In most of my free time I have spent practicing my force abilities. Some of the time I still seem to have trouble, uh with control.

Nodding he brought his right hand up to his mouth and looked off to the right for a few seconds. Around him Knights ran and practiced in different environments they may encounter out there. All together as a group. Strength in numbers, a well oiled machine all that stuff the Imperial Knights practiced. Only a handful of groups were under 5 people and there were maybe 15 of them. So few Master/Apprentice relationships were present these days.
It all will come in time and time is something you and I will have a lot of together to practice. From now on you are going to train under me and me alone. Rise Lord Vader...
Holding his right hand out now he held it there to shake the mans hand and formally introduce himself. If they were going to be together training and being a duo it would be best not to be a dick about it. Best to form some sort of friendship; something he was not good at being an outsider and a loner for most of his days. Instead he drew on his own Masters way of doing things. Even in death he would be training the new guard of the galaxy helping secure it and save the innocent. All that jazz.

Calvin nodded. It was all he could do from letting his mouth hang open. He had been training in large groups for nearly all of his time training with the knights. He knew what it ment when a knight would start to train one on one with an experienced knight. He looked at the knights hand for a moment before realizing that this was their formal introductions. Calvin extended his hand as well and shook his hand.
Thank you sir.
He almost wanted to let out a sigh of relief. The larger groups that he had been in, as well as practicing on his own were working alright for him so far, but he knew from past experiences just how much a one on one relationship with training could do. For the first time in a long time, things were finally starting to look up.

This wasnt going to be all gummy bears and rainbows, but for the moment he didnt say anything. He did not want to ruin that feeling the boy was having right now. There would be time enough to tear him back down and reconstruct him from the ruins. Instead he smiled showing his reptilian teeth. We arent going to do anything big today, just you know tag along or go celebrate with friends. I need to go see Count Monte Demici about something. Although technically he should be out there with the others trying to restore order to the streets Panno was thinking long term. The streets would be fixed in due time and whatever had caused this could be rectified. Its not like it could be the fact that they joined up for the empire. They were already a member of an Imperial nation. No this was a domestic issue. Instead his mind traveled back a few months to Kuat.
While he was in space heading back to the shipyards he had seen the symbol of a neutral PMC fighting with the men hell bent on destroying all force sensitives in the galaxy. If they had indeed been there and fighting to destroy innocent people then something about that needed doing. If you want to tag along we can walk and "train" As he spoke the last word he did air quotations. Only theoretical stuff I am afraid but theory is good before practical eh?

*It had been over a year since he joined the Imperial Knights. In that years time he has come a long way and garnered some envy from his brothers, but at the same time he earned their respect. Some of it begrudgingly because of his status as a noble of Serenno. A lot of it came from his prowess as a swordsman and as a weapons and armor forger. It was effortless for him whether he swung a saber or a hammer. A lot can happen in a year. The Holy war of the ME, the subsequent rise of the Galactic Empire and many other things. Monte was where he normally was if he wasn't helping Panno forge weapons or repair armor. He was in the training room pushing his limits as a swordsman. It took him very little time and effort to perfect the Imperial forms of Preatoria Ishu and Vonil. Another quality that garnered equal envy and respect. He had perfected Preatoria Ishu like any great swordsman with his education and background would, but Preatoria Vonil was something he perfected exceptionally. Perfecting it wasn't good enough, a great defense can match a great offense and so it was Monte's goal to become the unbeatable Vonil practitioner. He would never settle nor would he rest until he did. So here he was, surrounded by his fellow Knights. His Silver blades humming, out-numbered four to one. Before the battle commences, he tells them to do their best to kill him. He couldn't have an unbeatable defense if he didn't have the best aggressive offensive fighters to get him there. Which was the reason for his four on one and his challenge to kill him. The galaxy isn't known for it's fair play, so he would have to adapt or die. He stands calmly, clearly while focusing on the Force and technique. Then the fight begins.*

Calvin still felt almost, giddy. Although the rush of the situation was starting to wane as the true gravity of the situation begun to settle in. He was actually starting to move forward, and not just stagnate as he had been for so long. While most of the trainees of the imperial knights seemed to have either combat training, or training in the ways of the force, Calvin had neither of those things. He had just been handed things in the past but that had changed, he was being taken on as an apprentice because of his hard work, although he guessed that the real work had only just begun.
He let out an audible sigh of relief when Panno said that hey were not going to do anything big today. He was already spent from his time training and he didn't know how much more physical activity he could put up with today.
That sounds, good. Right now I would prefer theory to practice.
Calvin knew that usually the theoretical did not mean anything if you could not turn it into something practical. He had always been what would be called 'book smart'. He had been more interested in reading about something then actually doing it. That however was no longer possible.

Well that was easy, maybe it was his own romanticizing the whole event had made it seem more extravagant and having psyched himself up. He couldn't let Calvin know he was terrified of the prospect of teaching someone. Of screwing up, of hurting this person and ruining his hopes and dreams. Instead he projected an air of confidence as he turned around knowing where his fellow smith would be at.
Well I saw your performance wit the training remote taking shots at you. Im guessing you were one of the last that Xeonon had brought in before Prakith? He probably told you to open your mind and imagine being in a river and letting it soak through you. Something he told literally every new prospect that the force was all around us and the easiest way to connect to it was to imagine that river. It works but not for everyone. The Sith use their emotions, the Jedi their tranquility. Xeonons method works yes, but its a bastardization of both.
Speaking as he walked he kept looking over at the human he had taken on. Wondering what he was like, his quirks and the things that made him tick. Personally if you retreat into my mind and if you do it enough you will feel a little nub. Almost like a light and all you have to do is break it. It takes work, some people never figure it out besides the most pitiful of ways. The force hopefuls. If you are able to break into that, smash it, open it however it works for you then things will come easier. That way you don't have to use your eyes and your body just does it.
