The new day had arrived and Gavin found himself back in the training area. However, it wasn’t training that he sought but to watch and observe the students, acolytes, and apprentices of the Blackguard. He had a goal set before him: to enhance the upstarts and make them greater warriors. It wasn’t going to be an easy task. First, he had to begin with a class for the "younglings" of the order. Only when he showed his effectiveness with them to the headmaster would he progress to the older, more experienced ones. In time, he would be able to enact his plans and create a new generation of Sith.
He stood against the wall, arms crossed, eyes focused, and ears attentive. He had to know which were truly worth the effort of taking to the full level of training he had in mind. The first parts, the physical combat and balancing skills, as well as Force enhancement and refinement class would be for all of them. It was the second part, the mental and spiritual aspects that would only be offered to a select few. Typically Sith mindsets wouldn’t be of any use. He would need open minds, patient spirits, and determined hearts for that part. Only they could make he most of what he could offer and would hopefully ascend to the highest ranks within the Blackguard, those just beneath the Sith’ari.
Dressed in a similar loose long sleeve shirt as the night before, he continued his watch for most of the day, watching classes and individual training. He carried four lightsaber hilts on him, two in holsters in his legs and another two attached to either side of his belt. He doubted a need for them, but it was always good practice to keep them on hand. But still, he wished to keep his well defined physical shape hidden and his skills as unknown as possible. It was part of his illusion and he would maintain it as much as possible, training himself by night and watching the students by day.

Gavin continued to watch the classes and training of all students, apprentices, and acolytes that came into the training area throughout he say. He was seeking to understand them further, grasping the mind of each individual. He wouldn’t know for sure who possessed the proper state of mind for his more advanced training until he could train and interact with them personally, yet he was coming to understand the minds of the majority. So many held strong to the Sith’s way of thinking that he was beginning to doubt many would be able undergo the deeper trials due to that focused mindset. Too locked in a particular way of thinking. Only time would tell, however, if this would remain true.
As he stood against the wall, his focus became redirected towards the area of the landing pads. New arrivals and one seemed familiar somehow. He couldn’t place it, but made no effort to find out. If they had come here, he would run into them at some point or another.

The days spent waiting and preparing had finally come to a head as young children began to enter the training area. A few different age ranges, but for the most part, they were truly children, only a few around the age of ten or eleven. Piling in, they moved further into the area, moving towards the center, wondering what they'd be learning and who would be instructing them. For a bit of time, there had been no true instructor for them and what little they learned came from other master and teachers. There was some knowledge within there minds and a bit of experience, but mostly enough to keep them from being completely blind to what they'd learn as well as to instill some drive for greatness.
Gavin watched from the corner of the room, right of the entrance. There were some shadows hiding him, making him mostly invisible to the arriving younglings. He wanted to watch and observe them. He had been doing so of everyone who weren't masters or warriors among the Blackguard. He had come with a mission of his own: to enhance the capabilities of the warriors of the Blackguard beyond what could be expected. But even in that, there were levels to what he'd offer. All would gain the first level of teaching, which would begin here. He had gathered a little bit of understanding at some of the students, but it would be now that he'd truly get to see where these students were. Even more, these younglings had yet to fully settle into the mindset of the Sith. Perhaps he could shape their minds differently and create a full rising generation of greater warriors instead of the select few of the older students. However, that would be a task for another time, once he proved how effective his training was.
Still, he couldn't deny the slight bit of disappointment in being left in charge of younglings. He had hoped to train the more experienced. It wasn't that he hated teaching the young who knew so little, but that his methods were intense. Experienced and cocky practitioners allowed him to break and fully prove the difference in power gained from their lessons. But this was the task given to him so he would do as requested. Luckily, the time trying to get things set up for him allowed him to reformulate the process as well as shift the attitude of his mind.
Still, he remained within the corner, arms cross as he gazed upon the students as they waited, measuring them, understanding them. Differing ages, genders, and a few options of race made it a fairly diverse group. From what he could gather, he counted fifteen. it made him wonder where they all came from, though he quickly pushed the thoughts aside. No doubt while there were those who were brought in from the planet or controlled worlds, there was possibly those who were taken. As such, it was best not to dwell so not to let any sense of morality to cloud his mind.
As always, he let his presence reside as it always did: about average in power without any alignment. Thought unlikely any in the class could even sense him, he didn't wish to stand out amongst those here, if only to demonstrate his true power when required.

Only just returning to the Academy, after some time, Nidana was both eager and nerves about her first official lessons here. She timidly made her way to the training area, where she would learn "The beginnings of every sith." Or so the master she had asked for directions on the way had said. Many seemed to remember the young Echani woman from when she was personally interviewed by Viox and most were surprised to see her still alive.
Not before to long, and arriving after the younglings, Nidana entered the the training area. Hesitating in the doorway, she looked to the teeming group of younglings and felt almost embarrassed to be so far behind others of her age. She took another step in and felt a presences from the corner. Her Jedi training alerted her to the mark in the Force. It didn't seem quite as strong, even as her, though her power was raw and unrefined, this other presence seemed controlled and subdued even. Though the strangest part was how balanced it seemed. Nidana's eyes lingered not too long on the shape in the corner's shadows, before she stepped the rest of the way into the area with the other students.

As Gavin stood there, almost ready to move from the corner into the mix of students, he noticed the final entry. The fifteenth student, making the group uneven. Yet, it might not have been a bad thing. From a distance, he could tell Nidana wasn't the same age as the younglings. In fact, she was a young adult. At first, he wondered if she was a more advanced student instructed to help out. Yet, feeling her power, though strong, it signified someone with less knowledge in the Force than others her own age. In that case, she could very well have been here to learn with them. And that thought excited him.
As she joined the group, he pushed off from wall and made his way towards the students. Dressed in his normal blue leather pants, he also sported a light brown, loose fitting long sleeve shirt. His sandy blonde hair was spiked back a bit as he addressed them. "Alright, students, gather around." He pushed to the front of the group before turning to them. His voice was calm and cool, yet held a firmness to it. Still, it was commanding or dark as some of the masters might have spoken with. "I shall be your teacher. My name is Gavin Phoenix.
He took a quick breath before going on. "I know most of you have come here ready and hoping to beginning your training to be warriors of the Blackguard. Some of you may be hoping to start learning to use the Force while others are eager to learn new abilities. Some of you might be wanting to start learning about the Dark-side and the history of the Sith. There are others still that are ready to take hold of a lightsaber and learn the known forms of combat. However, at the current moment, you will not be learning any of those things."
He guessed a few might be disappointed with his words while others were simply confused. After all, they were in a class in a Force-based academy. What else would they learn? "What you will be learning right now is the basics of hand to hand combat. Before you can truly begin to step into the arts of weapons or the Force, you must begin by strengthening yourself, physically, mentally, and spiritually. Think of a weapon and the Force as an extension of yourself. The more you come to master yourself, the further your skills in the latter will increase. So to start, I will begin training you in the absolute basics of fighting. Not techniques, no specific forms. What you learn at the beginning will be the ground work for your future training. What you learn at the start will not only further enhance your growth, but also provide a solid foundation should you need to fall back on it when your abilities fail you."
He then looked around at those present. "Any questions before we continue?"

Nidana listened to this Gavin Phoenix. He was an interesting figure, though not nearly as much as she found the Dark Lord himself, but still this man was more than the rank and file among the Blackguard. It excited her when he mentioned "the history of the Sith" but those hopes were soon dashed by his next comment. When he moved on to discuss hand to hand combat, she started to doubt. While she was Echani and as a young child had learned many basics from her parents, she had been taken by the Jedi and not too many years after, left on her quest to find out all she could about the Sith and Darkside. She looked around, as many of the other students were, sizing one another up. While some of the boys were taller than her, she was still one of the tallest in the class, though only 5'4". Gavin on the other hand dwarfed them in comparison. But as he asked for questions, Nidana shook her head along with some of the other students and waited for further instruction.

Gavin could feel the disappointment resonating faintly from the group. He knew his particular approach to training and learning wasn’t what many expected, nor what many hoped for. It was part of the reason he had a preference for the experienced. They understood philosophy, history, and abilities. It was with them that he could break down and rebuild through the basics these younglings were about to learn. But most of them, this was the start. "I understand the disappointment many of you feel. But before you can learn about that which surrounds, you must first see what’s within."
He knew his last statement might have been vague and gone over their heads, but continued on. "When it comes to combat, the are four fundamentals that must be learn: evasion, blocking, counters and parries, and finally, attack. In these lessons, I will work to teach and refine the basics within each of you. Refinement and enhancement. These two things are my primary focus as it is my goal to shape you into warriors of the next generation. Warriors beyond those of the students and masters here currently." His eyes then focused on them as his tone became more serious. "When you all leave my instruction and advanced to more advanced classes, when you come under the eyes of masters seeking apprentices, some will be chosen, some will remain as acolytes. Those left behind are typically seen as average and do not show particular potentin the eyes of the masters. When I’m done, however, the only reason some of you will remain acolytes will solely be because there are not enough masters for all of you. That is the potential I will shape in each of you."
He glory his voice return to normal after his words. It might have been a bit early to tell them that, but he wanted them to have some drive going forward, knowing what they sought would be obtained in time. "Now, we will start with evasion. Your ability to dodge an opponent’s strike is critical to success in battle. Some may see it as cowardly and weak, but I assure you, it is far from the truth. Evading attacks is strategic and helps preserve energy. Rhythm, balance, and grace are key features needed to make the most of this. I will help you to reach a point where you can literally dance around your opponent, flowing from one movement to the next with ease and the minimal amount of effort, even inside their attack radius. When you do that, you force them to use more energy in their movements to stop and redirect, tiring them out as well as infuriating them since they can’t land a hit, dismantling their focus. When they reach their limit, it’ll be easy to make a single strike to end a fight and move on. Now let’s get started. You there." He pointes and motioned for a Nidana to join him. "What is your name?"

She couldn't hide her shock when she was singled out. Nidana seemed to be stuck in place as she chocked out in barley higher than a whisper, Nidana. After another moment she finally took a step forward, her feet feeling like lead weights. It was a feeling she felt only when she knew all eyes were on her. After what seemed like an hour of walking, she made it up to her instructor. Her timidness contrasting with raw strength. If any of these other students were as strong in the Force as she was, they would have sprinted to the front to flaunt their power. But not Nidana, she had encountered enough dead Sith Lords to know that living ones are far more powerful than any could imagin. And she did not want to be the one to feel the brunt of their wraith. But it seemed she was to be an example.
The young woman stood before Gavin and gave a bow, an old Jedi reflex, and also a sign of respect for his position. I am at your service, my Lord. And even though she was an adopted daughter of Viox, she knew the Dark Lord would not want a weakling for a child, and that thought strengthened her resolve.

Gavin smirked a bit as Nidana slowly and timidly made her way to the front to stand before him. In those few moments, he worked to gauge the woman. Chances were she was either shy or felt inferior, despite being in a class of younglings no older than eleven. She might have not had much training, but she stood over them in and power. But he’d say nothing of it at the present time.
Amused a bit, he gave a nod of his head. "You will be partnered with myself for the coming exercises." He then loooked back to the students. "Alright, I want everyone to pair up." He watcher as the pairs were made, everyone finding someone close to their size. That was, all but two of them. He let his gaze fall upon a duo, a boy and girl, ten and five respectively. The headmaster has made mention of a brother a sister from Jabliim that Viox had eyes on. No doubt these were the two. As with Nidana, he’d have to keep close eyes on them.
"To start, I’m going to demonstrate what being skilled in evasion can do for you. I understand that it might seem easy coming from me, it know it is a level you can all obtain and one that will become harder for the more skilled as your own skills increase. Now, Nidana. I want you to attack me. Stay on the assault until I tell you to stop and give me all you have."

Nidana, seemed somewhat apprehensive about being on the attack, but still feeling the confidence she had gained, took up a standard Echani opening stance. Since she was not physically impressive, she knew she would have to be fast, and deliver multiple strikes to accomplish the same as what Gavin could probably do. Circling him, looking for an opening. When she thought she had found one she struck out with a kick aimed at the mans shines, though she did not over commit so when he dodged (and she knew he would) she would not end up falling herself. And after landing with her kick, she would follow up with a high kick aimed for the neck. This was dangerous as she knew it could be countered more easily, though she hoped it would catch him off guard with such a move.

Gavin watched as Nidana took her stance, one he was familiar with from his years of training. Not his most developed form of combat, but he possessed some knowledge from watching and interpreting movements the best he could from skilled practitioners. It was amusing still to watch her circle him to find an opening. She had all the openings in the world as he’d only evade her but then again, perhaps she was seeking a good place to strike to hinder his abilities. Either way, he couldn’t blame her from being cautious. From field experience to how Sith masters operated, there were more than enough reasons for her caution.
He put his hands in his pockets as she came back around in front and made her first attack at his lower legs. A good first strike to really try and throw of his balance from the start. Shifting his legs, his left moved a bit to the left and back as his right lifted up over the kick. His foot found footing just as her second kick came. Leaning back slightly, he let the kick pass just in front of him and out of her range. Not once during these first two attacks did his eyes leave her.

Frustrated, but not surprised, at the fact nether of her attacks had hit home, Nidana thought about her next move. But she was not going to be made a fool of in front of the younglings. Taking a deep breath, she went on the attack once more. Making to rapped strikes with her fists at his chest, constantly advancing on him. This was a faint, so that she could execute her true intention. After he had started taking steps backward, she would then with out warning, duck down and preform a leg sweep. Hopefully this would catch him off guard. But also she wouldn't be surprised if it didn't.

As he let his body stand straight again, Nidana switched from her kicks to rapid punches at his chest. Simple enough to dodge, he let himself merely sway from side to side in between each strike. He smirked as she dropped down, showing a good state of mind for combat in producing such a feint. Still, he jumped slightly as her sweep came, letting it pass beneath him. As his feet planted themselves, he made his move. Stepping forward on his right foot, he let the foot pivot inwards. In one swift movement, he slide around behind her before she could completely stand. He then placed a hand on her back to end the spar. "Enough. That was very well done, Nidana. Do keep up the good work."
He then turned to the students. "Balance, rhythm, and grace. Three key elements behind evasionary tactics. The better these things are, the better off you’ll be. To start the exercises, I want to show one particular move, the one I performed last against Nidana. It’s Kouho Haiho or the stepping method. When you step forward and pivot in with your foot, it’s Kouho. When it pivots out, its Haiho. When an opponent makes an attack, you can use this method to get behind them. It allows you to put your weight on the pivoted foot and use the angle to navigate around your opponent. Now, we are going to practice this, starting with Kouho. We’ll go from right to left. When I say out, you step out with with your right foot, pivoting in the process. When I say turn, you pivot around to face the other way. We will do this twice with each foot. Work to get a feel for the balance you need to move smoothly and swiftly. Now line up and we will begin. Nidana, you’ll do so up here with me. You’ll be my partner and assistant."

Nidana felt Gavin's hand on her back. At first she was afraid that it was time for him to counter attack. She soon relaxed as she realized it was only a touch to signal her that the exercise was done. Letting out another deep breath she stood and bowed to him again with a quick and almost silent, Thank you. She then stood attentively and watched. Then she was called upon to be Gavin's assistant. It seems being the oldest in the class by about a decade will do that. Though still nerves, Nidana stood beside Gavin and as the exercise began, she found it not that difficult. Between her natural Echani and early Jedi training with lightsaber combat and foot work, she was even surprising herself with how well she was doing.

Gavin began making the calls and each moved through the exercise on their own, seeking to adapt to the new, yet simple movement. After a few goes, the rhythm began to set in that allowed the students to continue without command. Like a larger, discipled group of disciples, this group showed great potential in them, especially for their age.
He watched for a bit, taking in their progress. Some, like Nidana, grew accustom to the movement quickly while others took awhile. Occasionally, one fell over due to losing their balance simple from getting their legs tangled. To those he simply motioned to stand and continue. These difficulties were expected and not something to be punished for. Under that state of thinking, he felt growth was hindered out of fear. While they couldn’t be coddled like babies, they did require a level of encouragement and support. Done right, they could progress quicker than one could imagine.
As they continued, he began to speak some more. "As you grow accustomed to these movements and find that proper balance that fits you, try to increase the speed in which you move. Try to achieve the appearance that you simply disappear from your opponent’s sight in the blink of an eye. This sensation they feel will only add to the abilities effectiveness. But remember this: move too soon and you opponent will know what you’re attempting to do and can react accordingly. Do so too late and, well, you get hit."
After ten minutes, Gavin stopped the students and had them switch the Haiho pivot with their foot out. From there, he had them continue the same exercise, going on for another solid ten minutes.

As they continued, Nidana found that the faster they went, the more like dancing it felt. She hadn't danced since she joined the Jedi, but still remembered doing it. This gave her a measure of enjoyment out of the repetition. After twenty minutes of this though it began to wear on her. Unless addressed by Gavin directly, she kept her head down mostly, though it couldn't hide the slight smile on her face, as she imagined being home, or in some grand ballroom, dancing about.

Just as Nidana thought was exactly how Gavin saw things. All this was very much like a dance, only that one faced physical injury if a mistake was made. In time, the true depths of Gavin's mind in how he saw and believed would be revealed to them, much that would make sense of how he viewed them. But there was still time between now and then.
Once the final batch of time came to an end, Gavin gave a clap. "Alright, everyone. Take a little break before we continue." He knew they were young and wouldn't be as physically capable of long spans of training like the older ones. He wouldn't be the slave driver some Sith masters would be, yet he wasn't going to take it easy on them either. They would know that he'd push them more and more each day, extending their limits while not driving home fear and hate for him and the days. He wanted them to see progress, gain the drive to be here and grow. It was a method of the Sith he couldn't grasp. It was something he felt actually hindered one's progression and resulted in weaker warriors, despite the fact those emotions were what fueled a Sith's power.
As the students sat down for a moment, he took the time to explain the something else about the stepping method. "There is something else I want all of you know about this tactic. Use it sparingly. It might seem odd considering its the first thing I'm teaching you, but there is a reason for it. It is one of the most effective ways to get around an opponent and can be used to evade nearly any attack made against you. But used too frequently and your opponent will catch on, guess each time you slip around behind them. While its fine to do so, use other methods if you are able to get around them and don't always move directly behind them. Usually, if you slip behind them, it should be to make an attack against them in their blind spot when they are unsuspecting. So with that knowledge, you can see how over use can break down how effective it is. With the next exercise, I want you all to find a rhythm and flow to your own bodies to dodge attacks, falling outside the realm of technique and into the realm of oneness with your own natural rhythm."

Nidana, almost didn't want to stop, as she had started to add her own flourishes to the move. But she stopped and went to the water station and got herself some water, and a second cup, which she brought to Gavin. The Echani listened once again as Gavin continued to teach. She was starting to pick up on how he spoke, that this was more than just foot work to him. It was more. Once she had finished her water, she stood and waited to be instructed on their next task.

It did not go without notice Nidana's additions to the movement. Already she had adapted to the technique and was attempting to make it her own. That was a promising sign. As with all of them, he hoped he could turn her into something more than she thought she could be in whatever path she chose to follow.
He nodded and thanked her for the water. He watched them talk among themselves for ten minutes before calling them to their feet. "Alright, everyone gather in the pairs you chose earlier. We'll start one on one exercises." Once they formed up, he went through them and labeled each with an "A" or a "B." Once finished, she joined up with the Echani at the front. "Alright, the 'A' group will be the attackers to start. I want the 'B' group to evade your partner. The purpose of this is to let you all begin to grasp for yourselves the types of movements and patterns that work for you and allow you the best flow. It'll be awkward and rough to start. That's fine. But as you go through the motions of evading your partner's attacks, come to understand yourself and the way you body best moves. Become fluid and graceful, like a steady stream. That is the key to preserving energy and being able to stay ahead of your opponent. Relax and be calm. Still the water, as it were. Let your focus settle and let your tension and excitement fade."
He let the words settle in their minds before continuing. In time, the words spoken would make more sense if they didn't right at the moment. "Remember, try to use the stepping method as little as possible and turn to your natural movements. If you get hit, fall over, or happen to block, don't fret. Jump back and keep going. On thing I want you all to try to do is to stay as close as you can as you move. Don't step more than a foot outside of their maximum attack radius. Group 'A,' hold out your arms and group 'B,' stand a foot away from the tips of their fingers. Try to stay in that zone, but don't be afraid to move around them if you gain the opportunity. As for the attackers, start slow and easy. Let your partner get a hold of the movements. As they get better, increase the speed and intensity. Alright, begin."
He didn't begin the exercise with Nidana right away, wanting to see how everyone was doing before starting up with her.

Nidana used the time he was observing, to prepare herself mentally. Preparing herself for a 'dance' with a partner now. She was concentrating, trying to connect with every part of her body. The Force aided in this as she started to understand exactly where she was in her surroundings. Once more, a deep breath signaled that she was ready for her turn to evade Gavin's attacks.
