Aya could almost laugh with how loaded that particular question was. After all, she doubted many would accept her if her true nature ever became common knowledge.
-Aya That is a very personal question. I know enough.
Which was entirely true. She knew exactly how she came to be. Even more so than Z'har himself did.

Aliit tends to be very personal.
My statement was off-hand and non-committal. If Aya wanted the last say she could have it, but I wasn't interested in pursing that question any further. It had been a long time since I had felt close to my family, adopted or otherwise. I would probably feel distant till I made a family of my own, if ever I felt like settling down. Shrugging the thought off, I look back to Aya, curious now, and start off on yet another track of thought.
I haven't any plans for the evening, what would you like to do? Has Buir left us any toys to play with besides this lovely little sand box?

Aya smiles, now this was something more her style.
-Aya Well let's see. There is a rifle prototype that could use a bit of field testing. The company has their own field testers, but one more wouldn't hurt. We could stop by the testing facility & pick one up. Only drawback is that you would have to use it & send in periodic reports. Other than that, there are always the little odd jobs for the various companies in the Collective that always tend to have a backlog.

I shrug, I didn't much care for weapons testing, unless I was also being shot at, but it was something. And buir always liked to make new weapons, it'd be interesting to see what he was working on now.
Do you have a target in mind vod?
I signal for my bill, and notice that Aya said there was one, not two, available... I guess that meant she'd not be tagging along for this exercise, well not in person anyway. Pitty.

Aya lets loose with a rather evil smile.
-Aya We could always kill two birds with one stone. Let's see ... Hmmm, looks like Gold Standard loaned some money to a person. They failed to pay back on time. We know where they are, but so far all the collection agents we have sent have been shot at. The objective would be seize or destroy property of a certain value or greater (preferably seize). Interested?

The pair shortly found themselves at one of the many research facilities located on the outskirts of the main city. After a few more minutes of making their way through the building, they entered a rather large room with heavy plates mounted on every wall. Sitting on a table near the door was a rather bulky rifle.
-Aya Right, they have worked out most of the bugs. Technically it is listed as a heavy carbine. But it has a power cycle better suited to an anti-vehicle or anti-emplacement rifle. The down side is that it tends to over heat at unfortunate times & the power cycles rather unevenly for the moment. Basically any time you pull the trigger you don't know if it is going to pump out a somewhat stronger than a blaster rifle, or enough to melt a landspeeder. For some reason the techs are having difficulty nailing down the cause.
The rifle should be firing in about the middle of that range & able to fire two or three times rapidly before a cool-down cycle. Currently might might overheat after anywhere from one to ten shots.

NCO listened looking the bulky weapon over, then shrugged, picked up the rifle and moved to the firing range. Where he inserted a power pack, checked and removed the safety, took aim at the available target and fried, or tried to, four successive shots in as many seconds. before setting the rifle down and looking it over examining it for any obvious flaws.

The rifle on the other hand had other ideas. The first two shots were on the low end of what the rifle was capable of, merely blowing pits in the large durasteel slab that a wookiee could put its fist into. The third shot however proceeded to reduce most of the ton-&-a-half slab into a quickly expanding glowing puddle, with a fair sized lumpy bit sticking up in the center. The rifle immediately kicked into a cool-down cycle after the third shot, emitting a soft chiming noise.
-Aya For operation considerations, you can switch between an alert tone, a flashing light, or 'stealth' mode which doesn't have an alert.

It'll do, where's the target? And what's my RoE for this slot job?
RoE, of course being Rules of Engagment, NC wanted to know if he needed to bother with adhering to local laws mostly, though any other restrictions on how the job should be done are also part of the answer to his question.

Aya nods & holds up a map on her datapad.
-Aya A bit outside of town, I'll being giving you a lift. Target is a secure bunker complex. You will have two other independent contractors as support. Objective is seize or destroy the compound. Minimize damage to the surrounding area. Prisoners are preferred to casualties.

Sister, you gave me the wrong tool for a clean op, I can't even count on it cycling through in a regular pattern, hahaha. Still, I have the tools necessary for a clean job, and who knows, I might need to melt a few doors to slag.
I pick up the rifle again and grab a handful of extra power-packs for it as I head out, tucking them into an empty pouch on my belt. I carry the rifle in one hand, the barrel balanced over one shoulder, as I walk out of the range to whatever transportation Aya has arranged for me. Once there, I'd wait for the rest of the team, unless Aya directs me to meet the team elsewhere.

Waiting outside was a LAAT gunship. The design was over a century old at this point. However, the MMC tended to prefer designs from the Clone Wars or even earlier. This was because those designs tended to be very well tested & all their flaws were known. The fact that MMC produced its own modified & updated versions of the designs was not well known. Of course, the company also bought or salvaged every ship from that time they could, refitting & updating them in part to bolster their production numbers & in part to hide the fact that they produce the designs in the first place.
Already waiting inside the LAAT was a Wookiee with a pair of blaster pistols strapped to his hips, & a Sullustan armed with what looked like a cannon pulled from a small tank. Aya quickly steps on board the gunship, expecting NCO to follow.

NCO jumped on board after Aya, glancing briefly at the two other occupants, and setting the rifle between his feet but down. The two contractors made for a comical pair, the large Wookiee with his pistols, and the almost tiny Sullustan with his massive cannon. NCO didn't doubt their skill however, his sister was far to thorough in her research to hire a faker. These two would watch his six so long as they got payed in full on time, which wouldn't be an issue. NCO checked his suit's built in weapons and noted that all of them were functioning normally. He coated his dart in a strong sedative, and noted that his power levels were normal across the board excepting his new rifle. He smiled briefly, as he considered it, but then he noticed the ship was descending, and prepared to jump out as he could.

==In transit==
As the ship was nearing the drop zone, Aya received a rather odd message from her Buir. It would seem that Z'har had just stepped down & named her as the head of the MandalMine Collective. Aya wondered briefly what the Force had lead to that little bit of insanity. Regardless, she would hold true to Z'har ideals. The clan would come first in all things, & as most of the clan worked for MMC (& 90% of MMC employees were part of the D'Ordinii clan) it was not a complicated issue. As the LAAT swung low over the drop zone, Aya turned to the mercs.
-Aya Alright boys, Aya turns to the Sullustan & girl, this is the drop point. the target is the compound directly to the north. It is heavily defended, but it is mostly automated defenses. Intel shows that the only living being in the compound is the target. MMC would prefer the target alive, but don't put yourself or the mission at risk gunning for a live capture. If it becomes apparent that you will not be able to neutralize the target, your objective is to inflict as much damage on the compound as possible & withdraw. May the ancestors watch over you.
With that, the gunship dropped low enough for the mercs to hop out. Moments later it had withdrawn to a safe distance to wait for pickup.
==Merc assault team, just south of the compound==
The two other mercs did a quick finial check of their equipment & start off to the north. These two normally worked together, but this wasn't the first time they had worked as part of a larger group.
-Sal, the Sullustan Right, Chrick & me work together a good deal. Chrick generally handles the tricky shots, while I mostly hit anything that is big & slow. Before you ask, no we aren't part of the company, but the pay is good, so we tend to do a lot of jobs for them. What about you? Specialization? Freelance or Clan?

NCO, jumped out of the LAAT and, having checked his gear already, gave his rifle a quick glance and set it to blink notice. He briefly wondered why Aya didn't join them, but a lot was resting on her shoulders so an injury dealt to her would be felt by the entire clan, so he couldn't blame her even if he wanted to too, which he didn't. Besides he wouldn't mind having a competent Aliit behind the guns of his CAS for this mission. As the group moved north towards the enemy compound, he set his HUD to mark EM signatures, and possible triggers, and listened to the sullustan, responding only briefly.

-Sal I'm Salistraissy, most just call me Sal.
The group crested one last hill, giving them line of sight down into the compound. It was a surprisingly large area. At least three building domes could be seen, though from the looks of the design, most of the structure was buried. a large area of the surrounding ground had been cleared & leveled, granting an impressive kill-zone. A square perimeter wall surrounded the internal courtyard. at each corner of the wall was a large automated turret. Within the wall, at least a dozen heavy combat droids were wandering around. Several small craters had been blow in the kill zone fairly recently.
-Sal Those blast marks mean either a mine field or a mortar emplacement. The turrets shouldn't be too much of a problem. I can probably hit them from here, but once I fire, they are going to know where we are & return fire. If they do have a mortar that could easily mean a quick & messy end to the mission. Any ideas, clan boy?

Yeah, watch my six. I'll take the Mortar.
I kneel as we crest the ridge, and take the time to secure my new rifle to my back with a pair of mag clamps. Checking the ground in front of me, with my HUD set to tag EM signatures, I lean forward and sprint down the hill towards the compound. This would tax me, but I'd been sprinting in full armour for a while now, so my body was able to recover from the immense strain more rapidly than it had been able to when I'd first been given the armour. About a third of the way down the hill, I've attracted the attention of the compound, and begin to weave, using the repulsor boosts in my boots to aid in me across the kill zone in as I bounce, left and right, occasionally stopping or jumping forward with little warning. My gear was taking a beating, but knew it could take it, even the rifle would be fine, shoot it might even work better with a little grime under it's cover. That's just how Buir liked his toys. I watch for signs of a mortar operating in the compound, and if shells start falling, working to back track the trajectories as best I can to estimate the location of the mortar. Of course, if it's just mines, then my path forward is even more erratic than I intend, making tracking me a pain, and giving me several noteworthy bruises.

Sal & Chrick watch in confusion for a moment as the insane Gungan goes charging down the hill.
-Sal Well, so much for the element of surprise.
Sal takes careful aim with her cannon, using her grav-belt to more or less lock herself into position. With a loud crack, a massive bolt of energy reaches out & obliterates one of the turrets on this side of the compound. Cutting off the grav-belt, the duo quickly begins circling the compound moving away from their previous location. A moment later, a loud WHUMP sounds from inside the compound, a glowing canister arced high above the heavily scarred section of ground below. A moment later, the location vacated moments ago by the duo turned into a firestorm as the canister exploded. Several trees were shredded instantly & the entire area burst into flame.

So it was a mortar, nice. Reaching wall, I jump, aided substantially by the repulsor coils in the soles of my boots, and land in a crouch atop the wall, just to the left of the ruined tower from the courtyard. Seeing the droids below, I pull a small droid of my own out of a pouch on my kama. It resembled an old Imperial interrogation droid most, though that wasn't it's purpose at all. This droid would first find a way to deceive the other droids, by labeling itself friendly, usually by mimicking the other IFF transponders being used by the droids. Then it would begin actively subverting those droids on the ground to its will, and by that I of course mean my will. Hmmm, Aya wants the compound intact, fine. We'll do this the fun way then. Setting the droid in a niche of the ruined tower beside me, I search the compound looking for the mortar, while holding my rifle at the ready. I wouldn't go unnoticed forever.
