*Kory declined the offer to swim, indicating her bandages. Jake supposed that made sense, though it was a bit disappointing. As for himself, well, he was fine here... for now, anyway. He watched—with a slight tinge of envy—as Morgan gave Kory a hug and kiss, then ran off toward the water with Rush. It was actually kind of funny to watch the big scaly creature bound about in the water for a minute or two. But then he left the water, leaving Morgan to swim on her own. She looked so relaxed out there, like she needed to unwind. Jake was happy that she was getting that chance now. Part of him wanted to join her, but she looked so peaceful out there, and they'd already had their fun, so he'd let her relax.
He glanced sideways at Kory, then down into his lap. Then he attempted to subtly shift himself closer to her, holding back his nervousness. He settled down next to her, though not as close as Morgan was before, then took a slow, steadying breath.* So... *... and now that he started talking, he realized he wasn't sure what to say. Great, he was blowing it again! He had to think of something, and quick. Um...* ... do you like swimming? *... stupid, but it would work. Hopefully. He looked up at her and grinned, trying to look casual. Lokay, seeing that both his companions were off in the water where he didn't want to be, crawled into Jake's lap, curling up there comfortably. Jake smiled down at the tailring, glad it had taken to him as a companion. He gently stroked his neck as he nervously awaited an answer from Kory. This couldn't go wrong, could it?*

She watched in silence as Morgan played in the water with Rush, the waves of pure, innocent joy washing over her gently. Empathy: a pain in the butt sometimes but incredibly wonderful at others. The wind carried the deep scent of lake water, the spongy scent of fungus, and the solid scent of fertile earth to her. The trees whispered together, plant roots crept deeper into the earth, and the heartbeats of animals rippled in the Force. It wasn't Corellia, but somehow it was home. Adelle felt more than saw Jake shift closer, his scent just a bit stronger with his new proximity. The surface of his mind quivered: restlessness? Nervousness? His question confirmed what she guessed. Adelle smiled warmly, both amused and flattered. She was no beauty but somehow the boy found her worth his admiration.
"Used to. There's something... cleansing about water," she said. "Like you can dive in with all your troubles and walk out without a trace of them. Nothing's solved but you feel lighter."
She turned her head to look at him, tucking her right leg under her. "What about you? Do you like it?"

*Only "used to"? Jake frowned, tilting his head to the side. She didn't like to swim anymore? No, that couldn't be it, because the way she was talking, it sounded like she enjoyed it. In a very metaphorical sense, but Jake managed to wrap his head around it. He supposed that made a lot of sense, too; he'd always felt more relaxed in water, less troubled. Whenever he was in water, he could be relaxed, thoughtful, or playful; he'd never thought before just how much at ease being in water made someone. That... was very deep, very wise.
But he was suddenly pulled out of his thoughts, looking up as Kory suddenly asked if he liked swimming.* Huh? Oh, um, yeah! I love it. Me and Morgie do it all the time, like out here or in the pool in the base. *Innocent enough statement, but thanks to the state of dress he was in earlier—and indeed, whenever they went swimming out here—Jake's eyes widened and he quickly tried to cover up something he hadn't even implied.* But don't worry though! I wear swim trunks when I swim at the base, and Morgan does too! Er, a bathing suit I mean, not trunks, and I know we don't wear them out here, but if we brought them, we might, even though it's more fun without them— *He was going to stop talking now. He looked away, staring at the lake, face redder than the brightest tomato. He usually wasn't this socially awkward! Well, maybe a little, but not this bad! Was it just because he had a crush on Kory? He resisted the urge to bury his face in his hands. He just had to act cool, act natural. So he turned his head toward Kory and tried to force a confident smile. Instead, it was the most nervous smile he'd ever produced, and he knew it, so he just looked away again.*

*After a while, Rush turned away from the lake, took a few steps back, then turned and curled up on the ground, watching Morgan play. And Morgan did play for a bit, splashing and jumping and generally enjoying herself, but what she really wanted was relaxation. So she submerged herself, then allowed herself to float on her back across the surface of the water. Now this felt so relaxing, she could fall asleep. But she could sleep later.
After a few minutes, she glanced toward the shore. Looked like the others weren't going to join her after all. Well, that was okay, and now that she thought of it, she figured it was time to get out of the water and go back to the base anyway. And figure out what to do with Rush in the meantime, because he couldn't stay inside...
Tilting herself upright, she turned towards the shore and swam towards it. Once her feet touched the ground, she stood and walked out of the water. She then leaned forward, letting her hair fall over her head, and shook out some of the water. Standing up straight again, she flipped her hair back over her head, straightened it, then approached Jake and Kory with a smile. Once she was nearby, she lowered herself to the ground as she spoke.* Well, I'm ready to go back when you are. Just gotta dry off first. And fix up my tan. *She giggled as she laid down upon the ground face-up, exposing herself to the sun. It only took a few minutes for her to sun-dry completely, before she went to Jake's pack and reoutfitted herself in her Felucian dress, then replacing her bow and quiver around her back and her lightsaber on her hip. Then she went to Rush's side, climbing onto his back, then looking toward the others and smiling. She asked Jake if he'd like to ride with her, and he agreed after putting his shoes back on and slinging the pack around his back. After mounting behind her, she patted Rush on the side, nudging for him to get to his feet. He did so, and Jake seemed to clutch Morgan nervously, though relaxed when Rush steadied. Then a thought came to Morgan, and she looked to Kory and giggled.* Wanna race back to the base? *It was obviously a joke, especially since Kory was in no state to race. Still, she had no intention of having Rush run back to the base; instead, she'd just have him go at a leisurely pace.*

She said nothing, merely waited for Morgan patiently. Truth be told she was dreading going back to the base. That meant heading to the medbay, changing her bandages, dealing with the doctors that wanted to know why she wasn't using a sling or leg brace, blah blah blah. A necessary evil, if she wanted to get back to 100 percent but that didn't mean she liked it. There was also the matter of walking back to base. Her strength had been sapped a lot by her injuries and it would take a while to make her way through Felucia's jungle. Sore, tired, in pain... Not what she wanted to be when she got back. Adelle shook her head. She was already sore, tired, and in pain here. Might as well be comfortable.
Adelle stood slowly, half-staggering as her left leg protested having weight put on it. When Morgan made the offer of a race, she gave a wan smile.
"I'm afraid I'll have to forfeit before we even start," she said. "Maybe another time. You two go on ahead. I'll meet you there."
Slowly, she made her way back to base, following Jake and Morgan with Rush setting a gentle pace. Even then, Adelle had to stop and sit down every few minutes, making the trip that much longer. Corellia's nine hells, she was going to heal and soon. This was agonizing in more ways than one.

Some Jedi from the nearby base were on the trail of a little acklay that had somehow gotten in and out of the base recently. To their surprise, the trail leaded them to a crash-landed vessel out in the open terrain.
NPC Jedi 1: "Well what's this? How did we not notice this? It's not so far from the base, surely we would have sensed it?"
NPC Jedi 2: "Not necessarily. Remember that not everything is sensed just like that. The Force has a will, after all. But we should examine it, none the less. I sense that there are survivors on board the vessel, and they might need medical attention. We should be cautious."
The Jedi nodded in agreement and approached the vessel. The docking door was wide open. Someone had gotten out of the ship somehow. They entered the ship with caution. The Jedi found themselves with quite a mess about them. A bunch of people were lying around the floor of the ship, unconscious.
NPC Jedi 2: "Oh dear. We'll definitely need to get them some medical assistance."
NPC Jedi 3: "Over here! One of them seems to be coming around!"
Sure enough one of the ships crew was slowly coming back to his senses. The Jedi carefully approached him and also sent a COM message to the base to ready a medical team.
NPC Jedi 1: "Sir? Can you hear me? Are you alright? Can you tell me what happened?

The man slowly came to, his vision fuzzy from wreck. He blinked hard several times, his eyes adjusting to the world around him. He saw people. On the ground were his crew, but there were also....Jedi. The smuggler could not believe it. Good fortune mixed with bad luck. Good to have survived. Bad to have crashed in a place where Jedi were. The man's voice was weak, but he was steadily regaining his strength the longer he remained conscious.
"An engine failure. Hunk of junk ship. It's what I get for getting the used model..."
The man sat up, and his hand went to his head, where a patch of dried blood was. He winced when he touched his head, and withdrew his hand. The man looked around, and sighed with relief in that it appeared his ship was mostly intact, which meant the cargo might have survived the impact as well.

The Jedi nodded while one of them went to check on the vital signs of the other members of the crew.
NPC Jedi 3 "Don't worry, the medical team should be here any minu-"
Before he could finish, the sound of medical droids entering the ship interrupted him. A Jedi Healer was accompanying the droids. The healer followed the other Jedi around to also check everyone's vital signs and also apply some Force healing when he could. When he was done, he got up.
NPC Jedi Healer "We need to get them to the medical facilities at the base."
The other Jedi turned back to the member of the crew that was conscious.
NPC Jedi 3 "Don't worry, we'll help get you all treated. The base is really close by."
The medical droid team brought in their high-tech stretchers. All the rest of the crew were still unconscious, so it was important to get them to the base for proper treatment.

The smuggler stammered a bit in protest, trying to find the words to come up with to deter the Jedi from taking them anywhere.
"Wait!...uhm...what about our ship? We can't just be expected to leave it....er....It has...sentimental value?"
The tone of the man's voice implied that he was lying, but he hoped the Jedi wouldn't noticed. Of course, this man was never known to have many working brain cells, so his hopes for fooling trained Jedi were probably for naught. He stood up and, trying to seem inconspicuous, quickly checked a flickering screen, to make sure the cargo was intact.

The Jedi looked at each other quizzically. They weren't necessarily... suspicious, that would be the wrong way to describe it. But, they did sense that the man was avoiding leaving the ship, likely for reasons he did not want them to know about. They weren't sensing any significant threats though.
NPC Jedi Healer "Sir, you need to have that wound treated. It'd be a miracle if you didn't have a concussion of some sort. And your crew mates are all still knocked out cold from the crash. You have nothing to fear from us, we only want to help. We'll make sure nothing happens to your ship."
The Healer said to the man reassuringly and sincerely. One of the medical droids approached the man as well to try to reason with him.
NPC Medical Droid 1 "The Jedi speaks wisely, sir. It would be most beneficial to recieve treatment. According to my protocols, upon inspection, left untreated, that wound of yours has potential to become infected. Particularly considering the variables of the environment in which you encountered your injury."

The smuggler's right hand went nearer and nearer his pistol. He was probably about to lose the cargo of the century, or at least his career, because of a stupid kid, an engine problem, and Jedi. His face turned slightly red, but he relaxed his hand and nodded.
"Shut up, droid. No one asked what you thought.....I'll go. But my ship better not messed it!"
With a huff the man let himself be led out of the wrecked vessel and went with the medical team. He seemed a bit jumpy and paranoid, but otherwise fine.

The Jedi healer and the rest of the medical team helped all of the crew members out of the ship and out towards the medical bay. After they had departed, and as the rest of the Jedi were about to leave, one of the Jedi stopped.
NPC Jedi 1 "I... sense another lifeform here..."
NPC Jedi 2 "Me too... lets be cautious..."
The Jedi carefully scanned the ship to no avail. There was nothing living to be seen anywhere.
NPC Jedi 3 "We've combed the entire ship three times now. There isn't anyone here."
NPC Jedi 2 "... that we can see. But there is definitely someone we can feel. Remember we can't always trust what we see. It seems that the life signature is emanating from this room over here."
NPC Jedi 1 "We've been here before... the only thing in here is that statue. Probably some smuggled relic they were trying to hide from our knowing about."
The other Jedi nodded in agreement, but one of them spoke up.
NPC Jedi 2 "There is something odd about this... statue... though. I think... we had better take it back to the base with us."
The Jedi agreed and carefully took the statue from the ship, looking back every now and then, but realizing that the life signature was still emanating from their area even though they were no longer in the ship. It was coming from the statue itself.

The statue appeared to be that of some amorphous formed creature, several "limbs" moving out, as if readying an attack. The creature's limbs sprang up from a central circular form, which was embedded partially in what appeared to possibly be the base of the statue. The material highly resembled carbonite, thought the wear on some of the statue proved it was extremely old. The faint outline of a square on one of the sides seemed on purpose, as if it was hiding something.

So, this is Rush. *Aerandir and Morgan were standing a short distance from the base's main gate, the adolescent akk dog sitting before them. Aerandir had his hand extended so it could take his scent, impressed at his size and that Morgan was able to tame him. He was a handsome beast too, and he could feel the connection between the akk and Morgan.
This was very good. Rush would be a companion for Morgan, a loyal friend with tough hide, sharp teeth and claws, and a large, fast tail. She would be even more safe in the jungle than ever before with him by her side. He could even give her rides to far away destinations to take her places she couldn't reach without long hikes through the jungles, or carry her back if she was tired.
It would also be a bit of a challenge. Lokay was an easy pet to take care of, but Rush... well, he could likely fend for himself in the jungle, but he would have to be watched out for so that he didn't attack anyone he shouldn't. Obedience training, more or less. Likely, he wouldn't attack anyone who wasn't attempting to attack himself or Morgan, but he still would need an eye kept on him until they were sure he could be trusted around people. That is, if they were going to let him into the base... he supposed they would have to let him get acquainted with the building at some point, though, so that was likely.*

Yep! *Morgan stepped away from her father's side to stand by Rush's, wrapping her arms around the akk's neck as he took her father's scent. She smiled up at her father as she stroked the akk's neck.* If it weren't for him, I wouldn't have gotten away! *A cloud crossed over Morgan's countenance and her expression faltered briefly as she remembered Mesh again. Then it passed and she was bright again, summoning back the smile and looking back up at her father.* He's a good boy. He loves me and protects me and gives me rides. If he's not next to me, he's out in the jungle on lookout, so I know if something or someone's coming. *Meanwhile, Lokay had seemed to finally take to the akk, as he was perched on its back and peering over its shoulder at the others present. Morgan knew it was a good thing, as it meant her pets were getting along and would be friends. She wasn't exactly certain how they'd ever play with each other, and maybe they never would. Maybe they would just, well, be together, and Rush would protect Lokay from any danger, just like he would if Morgan were in danger.
Giggling, Morgan reached up to stroke Lokay's scales and looked at her daddy again.* Even Lokay likes him. Well, I guess Lokay likes everybody, but he didn't like Rush at first. Maybe that's because he tried to kill us, but then I stopped him, and Lokay still wasn't sure, but now they're best friends! *Morgan pushed herself up as high as she could on the tips of her toes to nuzzle against Lokay's beak, then she lowered herself and planted a kiss on Rush's cheek before finally releasing him, though she continued to stroke his scaly side with one hand.* I kind of want to take him inside the base just to look around and get used to the place, but I probably wouldn't bring him in the base all the time. He needs to be out here anyway, there's more room for him to do stuff.

*The shadow crossing Morgan's face at the reference to her escape was not unnoticed by Aerandir, and for a moment he was ready to be at her side should her feelings resurfaced. But the moment passed and she was smiling again, talking of Rush's good qualities and even noting Lokay's friendship with him.
Aerandir smiled again, then Morgan voiced aloud her own thoughts and concerns about letting Rush into the base, saying she'd like to at least acquaint him with the area but would keep him outside most of the time anyway, because there was "more room" for him out here. He nodded; smart girl, she was. He reached out to stroke Rush above his vestigial horns as he spoke.* Yep, space is good for a beast like him. And there's a lot of it here. Hopefully he'll adapt well, he'll be a very good partner for you. *He removed his hand from the akk and stood up straight.* I'll go with you if you want to show Rush around now.

*Morgan smiled when her father agreed that Rush needed space and added that he would be a good partner for her. She agreed, she was good at avoiding danger before, but Rush would make things even safer by being there to attack the more dangerous fiends, or give her a ride to flee from the most dangerous of foes. Somehow, she almost hoped these things happened, just to experience the thrill of the encounter. Though that was probably a foolish idea, wanting to meet danger...
Then he offered to go along with her to show Rush around the base, and Morgan thought about that for a moment. It might be a good idea, but Morgan found herself turning at the waist to look at the jungle. Mama was busy with... whatever. Those people she'd met. But Mommy was always there, always open for Morgan to come to when she needed her. It wasn't the same as being close to a human mother, no, but it was still a unique and loving relationship, and love she could use right now.
So Morgan made her decision and turned back to her father, shaking her head.* Not right now, Daddy. I wanna go out in the jungle for a bit. I won't stay long, though I might not be back till later tonight. Okay? *She knew her father trusted her and granted her leniency whenever she had an urge to go out into the jungle, so negotiations were usually pretty simple. She fully expected him to let her go, not out of any sense of entitlement, but because she knew he trusted her. But she would never make demands, because she knew her place and wanted to be agreeable. Still, she really could use some alone time in the jungle...*

*Aerandir didn't need to hear Morgan's reply before he knew what she was going to say: Her turning at the waist to look at the jungle revealed her intentions. So when she spoke, expressing that she wanted to go into the jungle instead, he wasn't surprised and only smiled.* Fine with me. Would you like to get your other clothes and your bow and quiver first? *She didn't need them, he knew, but he also knew she liked taking those in the jungle with her. Maybe she liked living like the Felucians more, heck, maybe she even considered herself one in a way. A silly thought, but Morgan was already a silly girl. A wonderful girl, but still silly.*

*Morgan smiled when her father said it was fine, but then stopped to think when he asked if she'd like to change into her Felucian outfit and gear first. Normally it was better for her trips into the jungle, but right now, she was fine going as-is. She had her lightsaber, after all, and the clothes she was in were comfortable enough. So she shook her head and grinned.* Nope! I'm good. I might come back dirty again, but that's what washing machines are for, right? *She spread her hands and shrugged, then skipped forward and hugged her father.* Thanks, Daddy! I'll be back soon. *She turned and started to head toward the jungle, then stopped.* Oh! *She then crouched down so she could undo her shoes and remove them and her socks, then picked these up and turned around, walking back up to her father and holding them out to him, smiling.* Will you take these for me, please? I like going barefoot better.

*Aerandir nodded when Morgan declined, though humorously noted she might return dirty again but noted that was why they had washing machines. He smiled and hugged her when she hugged him, then stood and watched as she started to head to the jungle. Then she stopped, removed her shoes and socks, then turned and asked him to take them for her since she liked going barefoot better. He reached out to take them, then put on a mischievous smile.* Oh, I'm sure it's not just your feet you prefer bare. *Was it a mean tease? Well, her reaction would answer that for him. Still, considering her usual habits, it was a tease he couldn't resist.*
