Makia. Maroth softly repeated her name if for no other reason than to have his own mouth caress it.
You're adorable when you're smitten. Slightly creepy, but adorable none-the-less.
If not for the red hue of his skin, Makia would have noticed him blushing in slight embarrassment to his alter-ego's teasing words. He snapped back into focus at her mentioning of a short Jedi Master and her observation of the planet's slightly different feel.
We should make all haste to the Jedi Base then, but we should be careful. I don't think their dull, grey little lives could handle our raw appeal. Who knows. One or two might even realize that the Jedi Order doesn't hold all the answers.

A light freighter made its hovering entrance into one of the local hangar bays within Niango. Considering the rough state of the ship, it made a rather smooth landing. A moment later, the ramp roughly lowered, hitting the ground with enough force to create a loud metal 'CLANK' that echoed throughout the hanger.
After some final actions with the controls, Mariah spun her chair and stood to her feet. She unsure how this Jedi would take her earlier, harsh explanation, and while she didn’t care to coddle this one with false pleasantries, she was still… intrigued. He had the spirit and the will to come this far, at least. He had the madness to even consider this method as a viable option. She was sure that Aria’s own Jedi Master wouldn’t have gone to these lengths and pursued this suicidal mission. The darksider still shrugged off all of this as this Jedi’s insanity and obsession. Mariah knew how this mission of his would end, but there was still something so chaotically noble of him, to take such extreme measures no other Jedi would consider.
Mariah took a few steps away to exit the bridge, but she halted for a moment, now to wait, now to listen… the first time she offered even that much. Half turning back to face Jair, she cocked her head to the side, crimson eyes flickering over him once more.

*This post and the post above by Mariah Shadows are continuation from here: boards.jedivsith.com/thread/369/felucias-open-orbit?page=14Jair did not seem bothered by her response. He would have been surprised if she were to have warmed up to him that quickly. He was never one to be offended easily. Perhaps that was his most recognizable Jedi trait. But it was more than something simply trained. It took a lot to make him angry.
Jairs thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the ramp extending out. Niango... For all his time here on Felucia, Jair hardly ever came out to the city. He spent the majority of his time in or around the Jedi Base. If they were going deep into the city this would definitely be a new experience for him. Although the haunting truth was that, the depths of the city would be nothing compared to the true destination. How would he even get there? He did not yet know, but Mariah seemed to believe that the first step was here. So finding whatever this was became top priority. Jair met her gaze.“Truth be told I don’t come out here often.” He had to let her know that he wouldn’t make a very good guide around Niango.“But it’ll help if I know exactly what we’re looking for... What would this be?”

With the Jedi in tow, Mariah made her leave from her ship, shutting the ramp behind them from the manual controls. The ramp seemed to catch, stutter, and stall until it finally shut itself. The woman stood there patient as ever, although Jair might’ve heard her muttering something under her breath about the useless junk she picked up as a craft. Still, the ramp was shut, but before she led them away from the hangar bay, she pulled up the hood of her robe to hide to hide away her features. The air was hot, humid, and overall disgusting. The idea of hiding herself away in such conditions was met with a hidden scowl. This would be over all in due time.
“We seek a residence,” she answered.
Mariah guided the two through the city, the smaller woman easily sweeping by pedestrians that passed them. While it was perhaps a more rural city in comparison to those on Coruscant or Nar Shaddaa, a city was a city. People were about -- too many people. Avoiding attention would be tricky, but finding the location of this residence would be even trickier. There was only so much Aria was able to impart to Mariah in her final moments. As much as Mariah hated to admit it, having two sets of eyes were better than one.
“Do you see this insignia?” Mariah asked, pausing momentarily to turn to the Jedi.
She pointed to the small silver clasp that kept her robes together at her collarbone. Upon the silver, there were markings carved and blackened into it. It appeared as though a swirling line created a circle at the center, while jagged, harsh lines cut through the circle, however faded before they could cut through the center to leave a voided space. It appeared more like a stylized design choice than an actual insignia. This may have been in part to its near non-existence to the rest of the realm.
Nonetheless, Mariah continued, “The residence which we seek bears this marking somewhere on its outside. Keep your eyes open.”

Jair studied the insignia carefully. He couldn’t recall seeing it before. He did not remember seeing Aria wear it to his recollection either. It must have trully been a rare sign. He nodded and then quickly followed her lead. Hours went by and it felt like they weren’t making any progress. He stopped in his tracks and took a moment to try to gather his thoughts, and quiet his mind. Despite his Jedi training, it had been very difficult to do up until this point. A very crimson colored Felucian vegetation stood shadowed at the entrance of a sort of dark alleyway. There was something about it that drew to him. He finally spoke up from behind her.
“I don’t know why... but I think it’s that way...”
He pointed to the pathway.

Minutes indeed turned to hours, each second that ticked by creating more frustration. Mariah’s eyes continued scanning the streets, the people -- anything that might give her a lead. It didn’t make sense. Each one of the Shadows, by birth, had a distinctive presence that another Shadows could sense. Why could she not sense this single presence, this single lead. At least the Jedi had offered her his silence this entire time. There were no attempts for small talk, no questions begging for an answer.
As they passed the dark alleyway, Jair had stopped, pointing down the shrouded path. By this point, the sun had began its descent over Niango while the twin sisters made their appearance within the sky. Mariah peered down the path, unsure as to what it was that pulled the Jedi here. She couldn't sense anything. How could he? Nevertheless, in such desperate times, even Mariah couldn't deny that the Force moved in mysterious ways, as much as the idea sent a livid fire within her spirit in this particular instance.
Exhaling sharply, she nodded towards the Jedi. “Very well.”
With that said, she brushed passed the bright red Felucian flora and departed down the alleyway. Her eyes glanced back and forth, up and down, as she attempted to locate the insignia she knew all too well. They had wandered down this narrow path for some time, and Mariah had grown sure that the Jedi was misled... before a door caught her eye. Even within the dusk which fell over the city, Mariah could clearly see it carved within the upper frame. The insignia revealed a more prominent bearing than her singly-marked clasp. Six lined the upper casing, the swirls dancing elegantly down the sides. The jagged cuts added a haunting look, as if a drastic fight had taken place earlier, somehow leaving the door unscathed.
Mariah knew without a doubt that this was the place. As that understanding sunk in, she heard her heartbeat loud within her ears. She took in a breath and exhaled a low snarl at the swirls of emotions that tried to push their way to the surface. There was a struggle, a war happening, within the woman, even if it was not clearly evident at a glance of her shrouded figure.
“This is it…” she signaled to Jair in low tones, if the Jedi hadn’t realized it.

Jair recognized the insignia from what Mariah had showed him earlier. This was definitely it. He walked up to the door slowly. Despite becoming rather accustomed to adapting to Mariah’s emotional state, at this moment, he was so much more attuned to the bigger picture that he didn’t notice her distress. Although that would probably change. He gently placed his hand on a sensor outside the door and a soft buzz was heard from the inside. The residents were now notified of their presence. Now it was time to wait.

Mariah lowered her chin, allowing the entirety of her figure to be hidden. She took in several deep breaths as she felt the presence of someone within come to the door. She continued to seek the residence, trying to find out why. Why was this so difficult, why couldn’t she sense the target inside. She couldn’t find the answer by the time a human woman answered the buzz.
This woman looked neither young nor old, perhaps close to her mid-life. Her brown hair was braided and weaved over her head like a crown to keep the Felucian heat from bothering neck. She was also dressed in a light-colored dress, home-sewn together with light cloth. "Hello…" the woman said pleasantly enough, although she appeared more puzzled than anything by these two's appearance. Her deep emerald eyes sought both Jair and the hooded figure, waiting for their introduction. Mariah's shrouded figure did make the woman nervous, though. That much she revealed with a furrowed brow and a tense stance.

Jair greeted the woman as warmly as he could, under the circumstances. The world around him still felt very disconnected. He also had no idea how the Force led him here, but he couldn’t be concerned about that now.
“I’m Jair, a Jedi from the base. I’m here with a friend.”
He nodded over to Mariah, realizing she probably would not agree with the later part of his last statement, but he didn’t want to scare this woman at all. He didn’t even know her. He had no idea what role she played in any of this. All he knew was that he meant no harm.
“We come in peace.”
And Jair did, at least, even though he felt far from his most peaceful state. He couldn’t speak totally for Mariah, though he had a feeling that she might actually know this woman, so he would hope that she would maintain a peaceful encounter.

The woman nodded her head slowly towards Jair, although the more he talked, the more befuddled the woman became. Her green eyes continued to shift back and forth between the two visitors, and while she attempted to keep a welcoming persona about her, she couldn't hide her confusion to their arrival.
"A pleasure to meet you, Jair," she said quietly, her eyes falling over the silent figure who offered no greetings or introduction… yet. "If you've come from the Jedi Base, I’m sure you mean well... but I have no ties to the Jedi. What brings you here...?"
Throughout the exchange, Mariah settled the thoughts of doubt that clouded her mind. This was her; the insignia on the doorway was proof to that. At this point, there was no turning back. She lifted the shroud from her face, the hood of her cloak falling back. Her crimson hair spilled from the black cloth and over her shoulders, and as Mariah's crimson eyes met the woman, a flash of recognition washed across the woman's expression. Mariah didn't need to offer an introduction nor speak a word, as the woman immediately seemed to switch gears, from cautious to a hasty.
"It's you..." The woman's eyes grew wide, and she took a step outside to glance in either direction, ensuring for some reason that they were not followed. "Come inside, quickly... Apologies, she said you would be coming alone..."
"Plans change," Mariah murmured, following the woman's urge to enter her house and dragging Jair in tow. Her grip on his arm was rough and unrelenting until she ensured that they were both safely within the woman's residence.
It was a small abode, with sparse furniture -- just enough to be comfortable for two to three people. While they were dragged into the main room, there was a small area for food preparation further back, and past that, there were two rooms shut off from the main area by doors. As soon as the woman was finished ensuring that no one had followed them, she closed the front entrance, bolted it shut, and turned to address her company.
"I was beginning to wonder if you were going to arrive... Please, make yourselves comfortable," she ushered, extending a hand towards one of the cushioned chairs that gathered around a table.
Mariah's cleared her throat as she looked over at Jair, judging his state of being after being dragged into the home. She took a seat as offered, though, leaning an elbow on the table and cradling her chin in the palm of her hand. “I needed to find a way to get to the planet surface without raising suspicion,” she said in low tones, her voice edging close to a snarl.
Mariah's discontent didn't seem to bother the woman at the slightest, though. Instead, she simply nodded slowly towards her before she cast her gaze in Jair's direction, again offering him a place to settle down after their travels. “Then I suppose I must thank you for bringing her here safely,” she offered him with a gentle smile.

Well so far this seemed to be going rather well. Everyone was relatively calm and composed, for the most part at least, and Mariah and this woman seemed to know each other. Jair also sensed absolutely no ambivalence towards him from this woman at all, even though she admitted she was not affiliated with the Jedi. He couldn’t help but wonder how this stop would lead to where he was attempting to go? But it’s not wise to rush into such things. He kept his focus on the here and now and replied back to the woman with a smile.
“It was no trouble at all.”
Jair looked over to Mariah, not having a clue what to expect next from this conversation. But he waited with bated breath.

The woman nodded her head towards Jair and smiled warmly at his response. “Would you care for tea, Jair? Mariah?” she asked, rushing over towards the kitchen area. “I’m sure you’re both exhausted from your travels.”
Mariah snapped at the mention of her name from a stranger’s lips. “I don’t accept drinks from strange women.” It didn’t occur to Mariah that Jair believed that these two women knew each other, yet that was far from the truth. This encounter in its entirety was something of a first and perhaps last impression with this woman.
The woman blinked, stopping momentarily to glance back up at the two. “Oh, forgive my manners,” she exclaimed, shrugging off Mariah’s harshness with an graceful easiness. “My name is Rayanelle. I was a brief friend of your sister’s...” She offered another warm smile and a brief moment of her attention before she turned back to gathering the kettle and other necessities. “I’m glad that you found the red plant I let grow unruly at the alleyway entrance. Your sister warned me that a crimson haired woman would come, so I hoped it would attract you enough to come down this way. From there, she assured me that you’d recognize the markings she created around my door.”
Mariah glanced over at Jair out of the corner of her vision. Her eyes were narrowed, and she clearly wasn't pleased by that explanation, but there other, more important things that she needed to address. “Then you must know of your role she’s given you,” Mariah murmured, relaxing her clenched jaw just long enough to spit out the words, “and thus her fate.”
Rayanelle paused briefly, releasing a quiet sigh before she spoke. “Yes… I am aware… and I accept my small role she gave me in her final moments.”
Throughout this whole conversation, Mariah stretched out the Force around her, still ever-seeking what they came here for. Still, nothing. From what she could sense, the woman was harmless. But she was alone. That was the problem. The woman’s words didn’t match the reality she could feel around her. With a furrowed brow, Mariah dropped her hand from her chin and stared silently as Rayanelle solemnly and silently finished brewing the tea.

Jair nodded to the woman. Tea sounded so good especially after having to process all of this information. He sipped the tea, for the first time actively working on truly calming his mind like a Jedi should, and he listened to the conversation between the two women unfold. Rayanelle seemed like a nice name. Any friend of Aria was a friend of his. But as the women steered towards the end of their conversation, some of the things that were said caused a pain to well up in the Jedi’s emotions and he found himself reacting, not angrily, but suddenly and somewhat sternly and more loudly than he should have.
“Nobody has a final moment! ... And we do not yet know her fate...”
Jair blinked at the awkward silence in the room before sighing deeply.
“Forgive me... that was... out of line. I only just recently found out.”
He didn’t know if Mariah even knew, or was even capable of understanding just how much Aria meant to him. The vibe she gave off was that he seemed insane. And perhaps this was rightly so, as he was willing to do something no Jedi would ever even dream of doing. Regardless, even if she did know, she might not react well to such knowledge. Jair sipped his tea again slowly, and calmed his mind once again before looking over to Mariah.
“You said there was something we were looking for?”

Both women remained silent for a few moments after Jair’s stern reaction. Mariah still held onto remnants of anger, perhaps to overlay the sorrow she buried deep. Rayanelle did not mind, however, to share that sorrow, to which she wore in her expression. When the Jedi asked his question, Mariah simply nodded, taking the tea that Rayanelle had still made and sipping it carefully.
Rayanelle perked up a little at the question, though, and offered the attempt of a smile. While they were company in her home, of course they were here to gather which they sought and leave. That was the role to which she agreed to play, after all, even if it would be a bittersweet parting. “Yes, she’s come to retrieve some of her sister’s things… She said they were important family heirlooms that should be-”
“-kept to those within the Family,” Mariah cut in sharply.
With a sigh, Rayanelle nodded gently towards the crimson haired woman. “Very well,” she said in quiet tones. “My apologies. I know very little. Only that it was important that everything reached you safely.” Rayanelle watched as the woman’s tenseness faded a bit with her apologies, and with a slight bow, she began rushing into one of the back rooms. “I’ll be a moment to gather them.”
Mariah watched the woman unlock, enter, and shut the door behind her, leaving her and Jair in the main room. Without the woman in earshot, she looked over at him and murmured, “You know her fate, Jedi, and where she currently rests. For all this woman’s ignorance, she’s upheld a duty to my sister and our Family, and for that, I am in her debt. Do not meddle with her mind and give her reason to doubt what she knows is the truth.” Still, as Mariah reached out with the Force, sensing the woman and everything she was gathering, there was still something so vital missing to the picture. It was unnerving, but there was a strange sensation that lingered in the back of her mind, a sensation she couldn't shake. A demand for patience and trust, all wrapped around her sister’s aura. Mariah exhaled a sharp sigh. “Should you be successful in your mission, you can deliver the good news then." Despite the hopeful words, there was still a hint of mockery laced in her tones. Marking the end of this conversation, at least to her, Mariah continued to sip at her tea as she waited -- patiently, as this aura requested.

It was the first time Mariah had said something truly hopeful about the situation. It was the first time it seemed that she took any sort of seriousness to what Jair was planning to do. And, it was the first time, dare he interpret it this way, that it seemed as though Mariah sought some sense of hope in this, regardless of her sarcastic tone. This caused a fire of determination and perseverance to kindle within the Jedi’s soul. He simply listened to what Mariah had to say as Rayanelle left the room and nodded to her in understanding.

The Jedi was ever so quiet as they sat there, sipping their tea while this stranger whom they both just met gathered things in the other room. It was only a moment longer before Rayanelle returned with a few things scooped up in her arms. She brought them over and laid them out on the table before Jair and Mariah, a few things of note first catching the eye -- twin golden filigree style lightsabers with curved hilts and a locked chest rested among other smaller things.
Mariah immediately went about her way, stashing away the curved hilt lightsabers the moment she had an opportunity. The sooner she could get those out of the Jedi’s eyes the better. She continued to sort through the various smaller items within, pieces of jewelry standing out to her in particular. The contents within the chest would be a project for another day. However, there was something of importance missing.
When Mariah’s eyes met Rayanelle with a silent expectation of explanation, the woman simply met it with a knowing smile. “Gather these things first, love,” she encouraged. “You’ve waited this long, another moment to rest your weary legs won’t kill you.”
Mariah narrowed her eyes upon the woman. She tried to assess the woman’s intentions, attempting to find a flickering hint of deception within her words. As she searched, though, that same quiet aura rushed over her like a crashing wave. The crimson haired woman took in a deep breath through her nose before relaxing her clenched jaw.
“Besides, I have some questions of my own, before you both depart, never to be seen again,” Rayanelle laughed, tending to her own cup of tea before floating her way over towards the two and seating herself near them. “I mean no offense to your character, Jair, or to other Jedi you know well... but last Aria spoke of the Jedi, they weren’t very fond of either her or her sister.” Her green eyes flickered over to Mariah briefly before turning her full attention back to him. “It puzzles me that after everything she warned me about, it was a Jedi who helped bring Mariah to my doorstep.”

Jair paused for a moment, allowing silence to settle in the room for just a bit. He released a deep breath. At this point, he might as well be honest about everything. He didn’t really have anything to lose now. A very distant look fell upon his eyes as he explained what he could.
“I met Aria long ago at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. To make a long story short, we both relocated here, to the Jedi Base. For reasons unknown to us, yet only to the will of the Force, a bond between us developed in the Force.”
Jair sipped his tea again slowly, letting out another deep sigh after swallowing.
“And... as you may know, the Jedi discourage falling in love.”
A slight smile of pained irony appeared on his features as his eyes misted with memories.
“... I did not succeed in that practice.”
Jair gently placed his tea glass down on the table as he stated the blunt truth to both of the women in the room.
“I love her.”

Unlike Rayanelle, Mariah showed no interest this Jedi had to tell about his relations with her sister. However, she took the opportunity to continue shifting through the contents which were spread out on the table before her. With the twin curved hilts sheathed, it left only a few other small belongings which encompassed the chest. Most of which seemed to be jewelry, which sparked a quiet curiosity within the otherwise stoic woman. She knew of the pendant, the ruby stone that swirled with arcane magics, infused decades ago by their ancestors. It radiated no power or aura to catch notice, which served Aria well when she wore it throughout all sorts of Jedi Bases and Temples she resided within for those years. However, there were others pieces among it. None of them held that same importance, except for one, which she carefully plucked front the contents to look at it closer.
‘I love her.’
Mariah’s eyes flickered towards the Jedi, her silent shock only given way as she dropped the ring she studied, with its twin diamonds flanking a brilliant emerald which swirled with some strange magic she hadn’t the time to decipher. It clattered back to its place among the treasures, although now, Mariah’s crimson gaze was locked upon this puzzling Jedi. With those three words, this suicidal mission all made sense. However, out of all of the emotions that could have welled up at this revelation, the one that fought its way over all the others was sadistic amusement.
“Do all the Jedi truly follow that practice?” Rayanelle asked, carrying on the conversation. Despite Mariah’s gaze upon Jair, she still held that detached awareness in her stare, and Rayanelle simply continued on as though the other woman was also going about her own path, per usual. “I don’t know much about the Jedi’s path and codes and what-have-you's,” she continued with a chuckle, “but still, I think you shouldn’t be too hard on yourself for having fallen in love with a young woman who walked so close with you.”
Although Rayanelle offered comforting words and warm smiles, Mariah offered the opposite: a cold stare and a harsh gaze. “He’s delusional,” she murmured, tearing her gaze away to go back to studying the unknown ring that caught her interest.
Rayanelle shot Mariah a glance. “And you are the only one allowed to reminisce in their memories while they mourn her loss, love? Everyone else should continue going about as though the universe has lost nothing?”
“That’s typically the way it’s been done, aye.” Mariah’s words were sharp, her final assertion emphasized with a snarl caught in her throat.
Rayanelle shook her head and sighed in exasperation, dismissing the other woman's harshness with a simple and swift shift in her attention. “Both your training and your bond with Aria must be strong," she murmured to Jair apologetically, "to have ventured through this storm and still carry the calm that the Jedi have taught you.”

Jair nodded.
“Thank you for your kind words.”
Jair took another sip of his tea before setting it down again.
“The Jedi no longer forbid love. But we are taught to tread carefully with it, as attachments can lead to the dark side.”
The irony was strong in that statement, as his love for Aria was leading him directly to Chaos itself. He figured it would probably be best not to mention this though. It would do no good to anyone to unnecessarily frighten the woman. Her kindness was soothing, and he did not take it for granted. He glanced towards Mariah ever so briefly. He harbored no ill feelings towards her at all. She was still grieving herself, after all.
“Aria... was very strong. She didn’t know her own strength, most of the time... I tried my best to be a good influence to her. But I was very young myself. And I can’t help but wonder if my attachment to her helped or hindered at times...”
Jair didn’t expect to get this vulnerable so soon. Perhaps he just needed to let his thoughts and feelings out some, after everything that had transpired.
“I did get pushy about how I felt, more than once... But all I ever really wanted to do was help...”
Jair rested his tea glass on the table once again.
“... to help her find peace ...”
Perhaps it was much more than irony that that was precisely what he was still trying to do in the present. His goal now was to help Aria find peace in the most ultimate and extreme way.

Rayanelle nodded gently towards Jair as she offered him a more warm smile, one that she attempted to break through the wearing frustration to the elder Shadows. Yes, she was grieving, and for that Rayanelle offered her sympathy, but there was something so different about this woman in comparison to the young woman she met almost a year ago. It was hard to believe that the two were sisters.
“She seemed to be a woman who knew that, dear. Perhaps thanks to you,” Rayanelle said with a faint laugh. “She seemed like that when I first met her at least…” She sighed as that memory came pouring back in, and with it, she took a sip of her tea. Setting the glass back down on the table, she continued with lighthearted tones, “She was just wandering through the streets and brushed by me. That serenity that just naturally trailed off of her, I would have thought she was a young Jedi Master seeking her first Padawan.”
Naturally, that same lightheartedness was not shared by the other woman. Again, with the comparisons to how her sister was like a Jedi. It made her livid every time. “She sought refuge from the Jedi Masters you compare her to,” Mariah snapped. “You disgrace her with-”
“She accepted the training she received with the Jedi, Mariah,” Rayanelle snapped back. “You think I don’t know her story? You think she didn't confide everything in me that one year I was lucky enough to have known her... her final year she was alive?" To her, that was the disgrace in all of this, and to have to explain it black and white to this woman who looked down on the two of them, as though they were nothing but the dirt she walked on -- Rayanelle would take no more of it. "Do you even know who your sister truly was, or do you simply hold onto the idea of who your sister should have been?”
Mariah stood to her feet with a sudden fury, her hand instinctively reaching for the hilt of her saber on her belt. The woman was unarmed, which was the only thing that stopped her from engaging it. Although Mariah walked the path of the Dark Side, known to kill so many innocents, the Shadows were different and not without their own codes of honor. Still, Mariah needed to suck in a deep breath to force away the red that clouded her vision.
Despite Mariah's hostile behavior, Rayanelle didn't flinch and simply looked up to the crimson haired woman with a saddened emerald gaze. “She accepted all that had happened to her and found her peace, Mariah.” Rayanelle’s words were softer this time, although there was an edge of pleading to her tones. “It’s time you did the same, if for nobody’s sake but your own.”
