Commander Merrik Piett, Interim Director of Imperial Intelligence, sat on a simple but comfortable black office chair looking over reports on a terminal built into his serviceable metal desk. All in all he looked more like a mid level clerk than the Director of Imperial Intelligence, at least until his eyes swung to meet newcomer and take him in at a glance. Noting his military precision and disciplined introduction Piett's expression did appear unimpressed. He was however silently impressed by the man addressing him as commander instead of Director. While both were technically accurate he found that most people using the Directer title either wanted something or was to afraid to be useful. After his quick look over of the man and a quick return of his salute Piett's eyes return to his terminal, appearing to return to his reports as he actually keeps studying the the other man out of the corner of his eyes, silently continuing to judge him. Your name has crossed my desk as a candidate for a position within intelligence, does that information surprise you captain? His voice was calm and even as he watched the man's reaction out of the corner of his eye. He wasn't much for flourished discussions so he had decided to get right down to the point of the meeting.

The Commander gave nothing away, his face seemed almost unmovable, he watched the Commander return his salute in a quick fashion he barely glanced up from the console he was so engrossed in. A moment passed and then Seshrin dropped his salute and clasped his hands behind his back. He stood in total silence never taking his eyes off the Commander, Seshrin was fairly certain he was being directed and evaluated by the Commander who was apparently busying himself tapping away at the screen, Seshrin allowed the right side of his mouth to twitch momentarily into a small and very brief smile. Then the Commander spoke still looking at the screen, only after he delivered the information in a direct concise manner did he extrude his gaze away from the console and regard Seshrin from the corners of his eyes.
Seshrin indeed was momentarily stunned, one thing however he never swayed from was honesty being the best policy, no doubt the Commander would easily perceive and see through any fabrication.
"It does Sir, I was under the illusion that perhaps you wished for my company to assist with or perform an operation in conjunction with Imperial intelligence. You understand this was a speculation made by myself. It didn't occur to me that my actions had brought my name to your attention."
It appeared to Seshrin that Piett was direct and as such preferred direct comments in return, he wasn't a man to beat around the bush and Seshrin would show him the courtesy of making his replies as concise as possible.
"What was it you had in mind, sir?"
Seshrin now seeing as to why he was under scrutiny and being offered a different role in the First Order and a specialised role at that he had begun to take in what he could about his surroundings, it was more worthy that as a soldier there was little he missed for it was part of very troopers training, to spot danger, traps, to evaluate the field and terrain, to see how a being acted, reacted to different situations and to notice these signs of change and even be able to prevent them or manoeuvre them to one's advantage. However Seshrin now made extra sure he took in every detail of the room, although there was exceptionally little to take in. However what he did glean was that Piett was a clean, tidy and business like person. Why, because the room was more Spartan than most holding his rank, secondly he had barely broken his eye contact from the business at hand on the screen in his desk, thirdly there lay a small yet rather neat and tidy pile of flimsi sheets. This further backed up the observations he had gathered about Piett from his demeanour, the manner in which he spoke and the way he had acted thus far. Upon the conclusion of at least these preliminary observations Seshrin could, if he allowed himself a brief moment of vanity, why Piett had called him here.

Piett watched out of the corner of his eyes as the other man said his peace and began making observations. It seemed like his eyes in the ranks hadn't been wrong. To be Honest your company has no interest to me. They have an above average record but I have plenty of men with above average skills. I don't need good, I need exceptional. He pulled a set of flimsi sheets out from a drawer, signed them, and placed them face down in one of the neat piles on his desk, all without looking away from his screen. My agents indicate that you may be such an individual. In a single slow fluid motion he takes his hands off his keyboard and and turns his grey eyes to the other man, looking directly into his eyes for a few long moments.
After an almost uncomfortable length of time the Commander nods and turns back to his work. I believe they may be right, at least enough to give you the chance. If you accept your training with begin immediately. You'll retain your commission and your rank while you are with his, however military rank has no meaning in the Special Intelligence division. Your chain of command will be clear, but your current rank will have no bearing on your position among us. If you can't deal with that you may return to your men and continue your service in the military. You will live your moderately successful life and maybe even become a Colonel if you're lucky, but if you want a real chance to make a difference than the door is open for you. He had delivered all his words with flat toned precision. He wasn't offering compliments, reprimands, or even trying to sway the other man, he was simply delivering the facts as he saw them.

This man wasImperialefficiency through and through, Seshrin mused that whilst Piett might not be considered amongst the rank and file as easy going he would lay a hefty water that his work and praise for it amongst the high command would be unparalleled, yetjudgi g from everything Seshrin had gleaned he didn't for one second believed Piett would care for merit either, it was clear he wasn't a material man. Surely he could have passed on this current position and risen swiftly through the ranks. His following statement told Seshrin all he needed to know. The job wasn't easy. It didn't come with the trappings of even the rewards, but Piett was unwavering in the fact that his work made all the difference. Isn't that what he too wanted, a life of significance. The First Order offered safety, solidarity a uniformed edict that kept law and order and there were those who threatened this, threatened the stability the First Order sought, threatened its citizens and there way of life and those threats couldn't be met necessarily with brass, or armour, blaster fire or military might, sometimes a knife in the dark or a well placed whisper could achieve far more than a multi ton warship. Seshrin believed he could achieve more, and what was more he believed he could become more.
Seshrin didn't tell Piett about duty or honour of protecting the citizens and their way of life, the commander would neither care for or wish to here a sentence with more syllables than was necessary. Seshrin answered as definitively and plainly as possible.
"When do I begin, sir?"

The Imperial Outpost on Dantooine had witnessed the return of veterans from the Western frontlines. With the collapse of the Galactic Alliance, troops were being redistributed to new units and roles. The strongest presence of military veterans was sent to Dantooine for obvious reasons. It was a still a volatile situation, given the population's sentiment, but the Emperor believed that the additional veterans may help change that.

Three days ago, the Imperial Garrison on Dantooine had been damaged after a series of explosions were detonated, killing around 60 Imperial officers and soldiers. Bombings had also been reported elsewhere on Dantooine, allegedly perpetrated by resistance cells. As a result, curfews had been imposed by the Imperial Garrison and patrols increased across the planet. There were a number of arrests made but the local garrison was cautious to avoid a major crackdown as they were ordered to wait for reinforcements.
Now, those reinforcements had arrived above Dantooine and begun landing. Rear Admiral Gordivan Annsing, commanding from the Star Destroyer Dominator had assumed command of the operation to find and eliminate rebel cells. Under his order, the garrison deployed Stormtrooper units to lockdown Dantooine's settlements while forces from the Dominator landed at their targets.

Sargent TK882, or Sargent Speck as he was "affectionately known" arrived planet side in a Lambda from New Carida. His nickname came from being able to spot the tiniest speck of anything on a trooper or cadet during inspection. The more the people he trained got to know him, they more the respected him. He cared for them and it showed. That was why Grand Moff Thul had sent him to observe the garrisons. He wanted to be sure the troopers he trained were ready for the galaxy they would be facing. Much of that, was sitting in a garrison. New trainers forget that military down time is not like normal down time. You have to train troops for this aspect as well or they will break down faster.

In a week, Speck had earned his name. Making not of many things. The Officers were rather worried. He was making note of things that looked like undisciplined, in a way he was. He was looking for how troopers entertained themselves when nothing was happening. As long as they were ready for action, the Sargent was happy. He made notes of little games to teach others. He did like making officers sweat a bit though.

Speck terrified the officers when he started hanging out in the enlisted mess. These troopers were off duty and the officers were worried they could say anything. That wass what the Sargent was after. He wanted to know who they were, what mattered to them, why they joined. There were all things that would improve training.

A game of ball was being organized. The Officers were trying to end it, but it kept popping up. Speck was the main reason it was popping up again and again. He loved the idea, and wanted to be a part of it. They were afraid that it would end in a bad report. The rest of the troops were enjoying the back and forth.

The time had come for Speck to give his report. The officials were very nervous. They were still convinced he was evaluating them, not trying to learn from them. He had learned a lot to take back to Carida, though he was enjoying letting the officers here worry. Every NCO in every army in the galaxy would never admit it, but they all took joy in making officers squirm in these situations. Had they asked for specifics, he of course would have calmed their nerves, but they hadn't so he didn't. He thanked the troopers he had worked with for their help, making the base commanders worry more.

The time had come to thank the officers at tell them all that he had learned in his time on world. He finally opened up too them. They were all relived. They all realized that they never actually confirmed this was an inspections. Speck encouraged them and told them everything that he was taking back with him.

Speck, made the arrangements for his departure. He was going to leave later in the day. He wanted to be available for any informal questions anyone might have. To encourage this, he actually changed into civilian garb calling this a day of leave. He took a speeder and looked at the surrounding area.
