Adelle barked a laugh, harsh and humorless. "It's all relative," she said, bringing her arms around her knees. "Your software is as accurate as ever. Good to know its installation was a success." She rested her forehead against her arms, staring at the floor. "Three and a half standard years. One thousand two hundred seventy-five days, exactly. Six months of therapy. This . . . This won't ever go away, or so I've been told." Her shoulders sagged as her lungs deflated. She pressed her tongue against her teeth, gripping the rough fabric of her pants. Leigh was safe. She embodied logic and radiated rationality. Adelle could find comfort in fact, in what existed in solid space. She couldn't hurt Leigh like she could Morgan. Or Na'an. Or like she did with Rishii. "Six years ago I disappeared without a trace. Five years ago, my partner in CorSec found me, unconscious. Doctors gave me a cursory exam, pronounced I had a severe case of amnesia and a mild case of PTSD and sent me back to CorSec as a liaison agent. I had—have episodes where I'm . . . reliving something. A memory maybe, or the identity I had on Coruscant. I'm not . . . I'm not Adelle Bastiel like that. And I—" Tears choked her words and she had to take a deep breath to calm down. A familiar weight settled in her stomach and her shoulders bowed even further under an unseen burden. "I had an episode and killed my partner," she said at last, the words tumbling out of her mouth. "After that . . . I couldn't let it go. I thought that, maybe, remembering was better than not knowing. That somehow knowing what had happened would help me deal with those episodes. Maybe prevent another . . . accident." She raised her head to rest her chin on her arms and stared unseeing at the wall next to Leigh's hulking form. "I went to Coruscant. Followed the trail. I found out what happened." Adelle pressed her lips together and met Leigh's eyes for the first time since speaking. "I was wrong. I did find out. I won. But it was a pyrrhic victory." Just earlier today, her younger sister had landed on the planet. There had been quite a commotion, though, and she hadn't really gotten to have any sort of conversation. 03 had seemed to want to be left alone. That was all well and fine, but surely it had been enough time since then? Organics usually took a few hours, and LE-03 was synthetic like she was, so now was definitely a good time.
Lana had spent about an hour searching the base, unsure of where to look for her. Thankfully, a giant armoured droid was noticeable, and someone had been kind enough to direct her to the dormitories.
"Oh-Three? Oh-Threeee!!!!"
She wandered the halls, shouting for her sister. When she rounded a corner, she saw Lady Bastiel sitting in the hallway, talking to..
...her sister!!
Without any regard to what she may or may not be interrupting, she bounded up to the pair of them, as without inhibition as the child she was created to be.
"Hi!!"

"That would be nice."
The tiniest of smiles tugged at the corner of her lips, one of the few habits she had already picked up on. Unfortunately, it didn't last long.
"Sorry that I'll be a burden."

Leigh was still processing what Adelle had finally deemed to confess when the door opened to reveal a child. No, not a child--she had already determined that the being now yelling into the dorms was another LE unit, as artificial as herself. The second model, rather than the third, which meant that technically this was her predecessor. Her...elder. This fact--LE-02's seniority--was as immutable as that of the law of gravity. Leigh was not in the habit of refuting things that could not be refuted. Yet the girl's behavior....rankled? Leigh's memory rifled quickly through the dictionaries of multiple languages, and this word was 87% accurate for describing the feeling she had for LE-02. Not active hatred, but there was enough marked different between them to generate annoyance. From their limited interactions, Leigh had calculated that they were opposites in every sense of the word that mattered.
LE-02 was forever a child, while Leigh had been born into adulthood.
LE-02 was loud and demonstrative, while Leigh's emotions were so subtle many believed them not to exist at all.
LE-02 was made to be happy; Leigh's body was made with a deadly weapon instead of a second arm.
LE-02, as far as Leigh knew, still believed their mother to be a saint as well as a genius, and was probably thrilled to find her alive.
And Leigh had finally, finally gotten Adelle to open up about the demons both she and Na'an had seen inside her, and here came LE-02 like a braying iriaz without a single apparent thought.
As it were, Leigh repressed the urge to activate the sigh she had written two years ago, instead turning to face the child (who was not a child, but still). "Hello...sister," she said, with a overly pleasant tone and a moment of hesitation only a droid could decipher. Her hologram flickered to Adelle, watching her reactions rather than focusing entirely on LE-02. "Are you in need of assistance?"

The loud shout from the small HRD shocked Adelle out of the vulnerable state she'd settled into. While Lana was synthetic like Leigh, she didn't seem to possess half the worldly knowledge Leigh did. And that meant the dark and restless things had to be pushed back into the closets and corners of her mind. She straightened from her nigh-fetal position, pressing her spine against the wall. Leigh addressed the child with all the civility of a smiling direcat; smiling outwardly and speaking pleasantly but there was something off about the tone. Almost like she was asking something else entirely.
Adelle pushed herself to her feet and walked towards the door. It seemed that there was family business to be finished and it probably should be done without a third party observer. As Adelle slipped past Leigh into her room, she laid a hand on the droid's shoulder as if for support.
"Thank you," she whispered, "for . . . trying." She slid her hand from the cool metal and disappeared further into the shadows of her room. Leigh blocked the doorway so she couldn't have total privacy, but the refresher station had a separate door. Aside from that, it was almost impossible for anything to get past Leigh. Her shower would likely go uninterrupted.

It wasn't a very direct answer. It was as if she wasn't picking up on the sarcasm in 03's tone, or was choosing to blatantly ignore it.
"You said you would be okay once you were off the ship. You never let me know if that was right!"
Her face dropped into a pout, her eyes narrowing.
"And don't lie to me!"

The expression became more definitive when she spoke again."I think I'm going to like it here." *Aerandir smiled once more as she processed the notion that she was family, though he briefly showed a look of confusion when she spoke in another language. That was the Mandalorian language, wasn't it? That was about all he could decipher. He tried to commit it to memory... or at least, parts of it. He could possibly look it up later, but upon hearing Light declare that she was "going to like it here," he and Morgan both voiced acknowledgement before leading her further into the quarters, making her feel more comfortable, and sharing more information about Light's new home, answering any questions she may have had as well...*

"And don't lie to me!" As soon as the door to the refresher closed, Leigh rounded on 02, displaying a face that even the least sophisticated organic could read as angry. In one of her minor subroutines, she noted that her chosen face, while not identical, was close enough to that of Eliana Shan to make the effect rather alarming to a Life Emulator unit. "Fine. I will not lie," she said, standing to take full advantage of her considerable height. "Instead, I will make it quite clear that you have chosen a bad time to impose yourself, and an even worse time to assume that you have my confidence just because we have a common creator. I have been busy with several important matters, not least of which trying to alleviate the damage dealt by our creator in the last couple of days. My processors are undergoing an unusually large amount of stress, I have had no time for calibrations or self-repair, and my friend is somewhere in this temple dealing with the parts of this affair that I am not capable of confronting. On top of that, you've just interrupted a conversation of the type where there is no predicting when the human who just left will have the emotional capacity to even BEGIN speaking of such topics again. I am in a very, very bad mood, and am likely to remain so.
And my name. Is. Leigh."
As if on cue, the comlink on her cannon arm beeped. Leigh raised her arm to answer it, snapping her face off when she recognized the face on the other end of the message. If there was any time for that sigh subroutine, this was it. Leigh activated it with relish as she repackaged the audio and forwarded it to Na'an's frequency, along with some commentary of her own. It seemed from Rutil Iorek's tone that they would be away from home even longer than expected. "Now," she finished for 02's benefit, "Is there anything else you require?"

When Eliana Shan had constructed the Life Emulator series, she had striven to create not a perfect being, but a perfect representation of a living being. At the same time, she had made them aware of their emotions: their inner workings, the fact that they could feel in as close an approximation as she could afford an entity who thought through digits and code instead of neurons and synapses. Each of the LEs knew that their feelings were the result of subroutines running on an infinite loop in the background of their thoughts. Those feelings normally affected the AI's judgment and actions, as they would an organic being.
There was always room for improvement, though. Elly had given each of her children the option to learn from their emotions, to realize when they were more detrimental than beneficial. Her middle child was created to forever carry her youthful glee, her fascination with the world's many wonders, but at seeing the youngest of them all talk to her this way..
Lana's pout evened out into a cold scowl as her sister spoke. She waited for the towering behemoth to finish before speaking again.
"No, Leigh. There's nothing else I require."
She paused, staring up into the blank dome that had previously shown her sister's -- and almost her creator's -- face.
"I'm sorry this was a bad time, but it seems you've forgotten your childhood, if you think I'm 'assuming your confidence because of a common creator.' I don't know what happened, but.. I'm not your enemy."
She took a step back, allowing the emotions to trickle back in. First up on the block, it seemed, was sadness and regret.
"Sorry. I missed you."

Leigh did not show any response at first. When she responded, her dome remained off, her tone flat and businesslike. "I believe that. But you do not know me enough to assume anything about my childhood. You might have noticed," and at this she raised her cannon arm to gesture at the girl, "that you and I did not exactly get equal treatment."
There was a short beep on her cannon arm; Leigh shifted to check it, noting that Na'an had marked the message as read. Based on the prompt response, it was probable that her partner was already looking for her to make plans. Master Iorek's message had seemed urgent, and despite their initial plans to stay on Felucia, Na'an had never been the type to delay when calls were urgent--least of all when it was someone who mattered.

*Locating Mama's general location had been easy, but in the process Morgan had noted that her presence was in a shaken state. Automatically, her pace quickened, which was likely no hindrance on her older companion's larger strides. Eventually their steps carried them to the dormitories, specifically Mama's, where outside stood Lana and... her "sister," as she'd called the armored figure standing within the open doorway to Mama's quarters. Indeed, its silhouette once more elicited pause within Morgan before she quickly recovered, offering a,* "Hi, Lana," *and a forced smile before looking up at Na'an.* "One sec," *she said, before taking advantage of her small stature to slip past the figure and into the quarters.
Mama wasn't in here, she discerned quickly. Refresher door was closed, and she thought she heard trickling water faintly on the other side. Reaching up, she picked the tailring off of her shoulders and set him down upon nearby furniture.* "Wait here, Lokay," *she instructed the creature before approaching the refresher door. Briefly, she hesitated, as though maybe Mama were in a state where she wouldn't want to be seen... but her desire to ensure her well-being won out and she entered the refresher.*
"Mama?" *she called out somewhat softly with concern, shutting the door immediately behind her. As it turned out, the water she heard came from the shower. Morgan approached slowly, asking,* "Are you okay?" *A brief pause, then she added,* "... can I come in?"

Steam disappeared into her lungs and swirled in little clouds as she exhaled, trying to clear her mind. She pressed her palms against the wooden walls, breathing in the sweet scent as the nigh-scalding water pounded against her back. Dirt and dried blood ran in rivulets down her skin, swept down the drain by the torrent. Na'an's heated words still echoed in her head. Adelle smacked the wall and pushed herself to stand fully under the cascade, blowing the water away from her nose with forceful breaths. Her teeth ground together seemingly of their own will as the hot water brushed back her bangs. Slowly, she forced her jaw to relax, turning her mind instead to each drop of water that shot out of the shower head, their shape and motion, the soft impact on her scalp.
"Emotion, yet peace," she whispered. "Emotion, yet peace."
Outside the walls of the refresher, she felt two more presences show up to her room, one all innocence and fresh sky, the other fire and steel. Adelle's shoulders sagged and she groaned as she thumped her head against the wall. A rush of cold air let her know someone else had entered the refresher. For a fraction of a second, she jumped to pull a weapon from her hip before she realized it was Morgan.
If she was being honest?
"No. I've . . . had a long week," she said. She chuckled at Morgan's question, and poked her head around the frosted transparisteel door. "What, Felucia's ponds not enough for you?" Still, she slid the door open wider, giving Morgan the opportunity to decide for herself. Adelle sat cross-legged on the stone tile floor, centered in the spray.

*Just as she feared... and honestly should have known: No, Mama wasn't okay, blaming a "long week." Normally, Morgan might have reacted to the crack about Felucia's ponds with a grin or sheepish smile, but her mind was still on her mama's well-being. She did smile when the invitation was made, because it gave her the opportunity to cheer her mama up! ... and she couldn't help it, she just liked water.
She reached for her whip's hilt, and it again seemed to respond to her very touch, uncurling from around her torso and coiling into a neat pile on the ground. Her maroon shirt and pink skirt also met the floor beside the whip and she entered through the opening made by her mama. Pulling it closed behind her, her emerald eyes fell immediately upon the new scarring, which momentarily gave her pause.* "... what happened?" *she asked automatically, slowly stepping forward.
She'd wanted to climb into her lap, but at the same time she was worried she might just cause her more pain, so instead she simply sat down in front of her, letting the water fall over her. Come to think of it, she hadn't had a shower since before her latest jungle trip... She could take advantage of this as well.*

She pressed her lips in a grimace of a smile and brushed a wet lock of hair out of Morgan's face. A lump formed in her throat and Adelle withdrew her emotions behind the wall she'd built years ago. Morgan could never know. Adelle withdrew her hand and reached for the shampoo. "You don't need to know, Morgan. It happened a long time ago."

*Morgan waited patiently for the story that never came. Obviously she was disappointed, but she was now old enough to understand that people needed barriers sometimes. It didn't feel good to be outside, but for Morgan's part, she just wanted to know everything about her mama in order to better care for her.
What little she could.
And she saw an opportunity now, as Mama reached for the shampoo. Morgan quickly clambered to her feet, announcing,* "I'll get it!" *wet feet slapping the tile as she nabbed the bottle, almost slipping in the process. She braced herself with her free palm on the wall of the shower, regaining her balance and giving Mama a nervous grin with a chuckle to match.* "I'm okay!" *She stepped behind the woman, popping open the lid of the shampoo, requesting,* "Head back, please!" *As Mama complied, Morgan began to lather up her hair.* "I really missed you, Mama. You're never here long enough," *she lamented.*

Na'an watched Morgan dart into the dormitory with practiced blankness, then moved herself just into the door, leaning against the jamb. "I got your message," she said to Leigh. "Sorry, but it looks like that rest you wanted me to get is off the table."
Leigh nodded in response; when she spoke, it was with the same warm, deliberate tone she had reserved for Adelle or Na'an--for those she considered her friends. "I expect so. Which I assume means our next plan is to catch the next freighter to Yavin--after, of course, leaving our regards to the Masters?"
"Um..." Na'an hesitated, looking at the other child in the room-- a little girl who happened to be looking at Leigh with considerable emotion. "Do we need to get ourselves a room? I mean..."
"The child is not a security concern. Besides, yours is just over there," Leigh turned to indicate the refresher door, "With Miss Bastiel."
"...Miss, uh, Bastiel is over there?"
"Yes."
Na'an exhaled a long breath, her face flushing slightly. She wiped at it reflexively, then pinched the bridge of her nose in a familiar gesture. "Right. Okay. Add that to the list of things I need to handle in the next ten minutes."
"If you say so. In the meantime, let us consider our transport options."

Adelle forced herself to breathe deep and still the shaking in her fingers, withdrawing the hand that had shot out to catch Morgan if she fell. Between Morgan shampooing her hair and the pitter of water droplets, she could have easily fallen asleep."CorSec.. keeps me busy," she said, suppressing a yawn. Her eyelids slid closed. Skin and muscle slipped off Rizala's skull in liquified clumps. Adelle ground her teeth together as her eyes flew open again. Hot water still stung her back although she could feel her body temperature adapting to the heat. Steam hung heavy in the air. Morgan stood behind her, hands full of suds and hair. She was home, she was safe. She just had to put off the memories until she could meditate quietly."Your turn for shampoo." Adelle forced a smile as she took the bottle from Morgan's hands.

*It wasn't just the hair Morgan paid attention to, but every muscle of her mama's face. Her senses were also seeking as well, examining, looking for any trace of anything telling. Parents always hid things from their kids, and Morgan didn't like that. Her daddy often shared many things with her, but even he had his secrets, or his explanations were tone down for her sake. She hadn't always noticed before, but lately she'd been able to more easily discern such things...
They were tough to crack, though. Sometimes they might chip away a little, but mostly they stood their ground. Mama hardly ever budged. But the sudden speed at which her closed eyes shot open was just enough of a tell for Morgan to know something was going on. But that was the only sign she got.
She too forced a smile when it was her turn for shampoo, stepping around and sitting down on the ground with her back toward her.* "What did they make you do last time?" *she asked, reaching up to run her hands through her hair a bit and making sure it was thoroughly soaked before the shampoo came.*

She closed the door and turned to the teenager.*"Are you all right? That was quite a display earlier..."
