So, Interest in this event is looking good. So now we need some ideas for Award Categories. No more vagueness guys. Put some suggestions out and we will sort through them at the end of the month (or sooner) and can get nominations for them underway after that. Try make the categories encompassing so that multiple people can be nominated for the award. boards.jedivsith.com/thread/3265/years-award-show-interest-ideas

Well if it's something we can work into the award polls somehow, I would be up for it. Otherwise, we could enact it as just a general Ten Years of JvS idea.

Could you elaborate a little more as to what that would look like?

No idea is without some short falls. Awards will invariably leave some people feeling hurt, as Kaine pointed out. But on the other hand, you then have to consider why you feel hurt about missing out and why it is that you missed out. That's not to say the roast idea could not be done. I do not imagine this awards show idea will be the only thing done to celebrate 10 years on JvS. I've already seen ideas for a JoTW time warp back to 1.0 times where everyone has a massive GM/PG fest for a month (or less). So a roast thread or event could certainly be something else done as well for those willing to subject themselves to that

That's a big part of what this thread is here for. Gauge interest and get some ideas for award categories. All of it will be voted on by the players. Going to solo the running of it this year, just to keep it simple and light.
Put some ideas out there and encourage others to do so as well. Once we have a variety of categories, I'll filter through and figure out which ones we can manage with some competition.
As a rule, we'll keep nominations to people still writing on JvS. But, We can certainly have something to commemorate some of the writers who have left us with fond memories.

Greetings one and all,
This thread is to get an idea of what people's interest would be in the idea of a purely "Players Choice" set of award/recognition polls being set up and run in the lead up to the 10 Year Anniversary. It would not be anything super fancy or complicated. Just a little fun for people to participate in that wouldn't require a whole lot of organization or effort.
Not 100% certain what the categories would be, up for some ideas. Was thinking of maybe taking some of the old Sithies main categories and setting them as ones for this (Lightsider, Darksider, etc). But open for any and all thoughts.
Cheers,

I'd be more than willing to lend any help that I can to this venture. When we decided to close the Sithies, there was the faint possibility that a new thing/system would replace it. But the biggest thing was just having the staff and support from the wider community. Our biggest killer was just that people did not have the time or effort to put to seeking out posts by other people and nominating them.
The other thing that you should consider, is when you want to host the event and when nominations need to be done. Opening nominations around November/December was quickly becoming unsustainable as most people were busy with work or holiday preparations.

An Important Announcment About The Sithies Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is with a heavy heart, that I announce the closure of The Sithies. Following discussions with the various members of the staff, we have come to the agreement that the Sithies will not be run this year, with the previous postponement of the event providing us a moment to reflect upon things. The Sithies, at least with that particular title, will not be returning to JvS, whether something ever replaces it, is another matter entirely, but if anything does replace it, it wont be for another year at the very least. I just want to take a moment to thank everyone who has worked on the Sithies over the years, and those who are on the staff currently for their hard work.
cheers, The Sithies Admin

Hi Guys and Gals,
So, we're currently accepting suggestions for how people would like to see the Sithies operate in 2016. All ideas and suggestions are welcome, but the basic premise that we are aiming towards, is something a little more silly. Currently the basis of the idea that we have, is to take a slightly more lighthearted approach, maybe have a bit of a roast of some writers, give out a half dozen or so awards, but generally get back to people just showing up and their wardrobes malfunctioning. At this stage, we are accepting idea's at all levels, whether it's just the nature of the awards (or whether we give awards at all), the name we give it (do we keep the Sithies name, or change it), should we do some roasts (are people up for being made fun of in a light hearted manner). What ever we do go with, will require people to be on board with, so hopefully with this bit of a change, we can do that, draw more people in, and make it something fun and memorable.
cheers, The Sithies Admin

Have you ever wondered what goes in to organizing the Sithies? Have you ever wanted to go behind the scenes and lend a hand? Well, you're in luck, because right now, we are starting a search for the next round of people to join the Sithies Staff! We are looking for people who are willing to put some serious time in around the January-February time of the year to read through post submissions for the Judged Categories. The rest of the year is mostly a breeze, with little else to do but discuss ideas for the upcoming event. If you feel like this is for you, PM either: The Sithies Admin or @wilhelmvanbuuren

Greetings and Salutations Folks of JvS, In an ever ongoing attempt to continually change how the Sithies are run and how people view the event, we are seeking your opinions and feedback on how you felt about the event this year. It is highly encouraged that you leave at least a short post explaining the things you liked and didn't like even if you really enjoyed the event. There is also a couple of notes that need to be made first: - Please be respectful of your fellow writers and their opinions. This is not a thread for argument, it is here to get people's feedback on how they thought the event went and what they think should change. Any personal feelings and ego's are respectfully asked to be left at the door with your shoes...
- Next year, the nomination period will be opening a little earlier, this year it just started a little late because I took up the reigns quite late in the year. We will be trialling some new methods next year for encouraging people to nominate. However, somethimg important to note, is that there is only soo much we can do if people choose to not take the chance to nominate, or just plain ignore anything to do with the Sithies (I mean, we can ut up all the global announcements we like, but if people dont read 'em, then we cant do much about it).
- The Sithies will never be perfect. I have said this since the moment I took charge of running things. Everyone has their own view of what the Sithies is and should be, and they are not necessarily going to line up nicely with each other. All we can do, is make it as enjoyable for as many people as possible, so please dont expect everything mentioned here to ever be implemented or made official, it'll all come down to what lines up the best with other ideas without clashing.
- The one thing I I really want to make quite clear, is that whilst it is all good and fun to win an award, it is not everything. We are never going to get a 100% perfect cross section of people on JvS (we never have, and never will), or 100% judge who is the best of everyone on JvS in a particular category, it's just not feasible since we dont have the resources nor do we have the (qualified) professionals to do so. And Honestly, that is not what I see the Sithies being about. It is a weekend to come together and have some fun with other people, with an awards show on the side that has awards you guys have voted on, and awards that have been voted on solely by the staff. People should be showing up to hang out with other people, not just because they were nominated, or just cause they won something.
With that in mind, The floor is now open...
