--Lucius stood among the ranks of senior officers and those of the highest ranks. It was here that he had been called to give his oath alongside the others to the new Emperor. It was moving rather quickly in the transition. Only a few days had passed since Nicademus's passing, but he guessed it was to be expected. It couldn't be afforded to leave the throne vacant for very long. Unfortunately, it seemed he would not be given the opportunity for some time to speak with Octavian.
He had wanted to speak with him of his father, given his feelings on the man Lucius thought he was. A man of honor, who led from the front, a leader who truly led his people instead of mushing them from behind. His soldiers knew that though he stood at the back, safe in the capital, he was someone that could appear on the front at any time and lead the charge against their enemies. He was a man that he happily followed and served. He wanted to speak with Octavian to take his measure and see if he would be a leader his father was. He didn't expect him to have the experience or to even move without some form of hesitation at some point or another, but from just words he would know the spirit and resolve of the man that was now Emperor. After all, no matter the training and the prep work, none were truly ready to take over positions of leadership without hurdles. Only if you could grow through the ranks and prove yourself through that could one avoid such issues. Emperor, however, was not of that role. It had the be felt out and the respect given had to be locked down and fortified through action.
He also wanted to understand the man and his currently feelings, the burden he felt. To encourage him to follow the path he felt best, seeking not follow his father exactly outside of being the man of honor and the leader who truly led. After all, Octavian was different from his father. Being Force-sensitive one of the most prominent. But he also followed a different path in serving with the Imperial Knights. It would open pathways to leadership his father didn't have. He needed to trust in himself as much as those he looked to in the very room.
Finally, he was curious as to the feelings of his sister. It wasn't hard to guess that a few were debating a power ply against the young Emperor. There were always those in the mix. It was what led to the Diarchy's collapse. What he was more curious about was Fiora. Being his twin, yet denied the throne against her brother, what did her heart feel? Was she happy? Resentful? He didn't wish to cause doubt and raise suspicion of family, but it wasn't uncommon for younger siblings to resent the older one's for their inheritance, always seeming to be in their shadow. It didn’t help either that while Octavian served the Imperial Knights, an order with a good reputation overall, she was a Knight of Ren, whose overall reputation was less than pleasing by what he heard. None of it bothered him for all people had a purpose and had benefit given the chance to prove. After all, he was once considered a rabid dog that could turn on his master, so he understood that feeling as the Ren most likely did. He only hoped that in the end, such things did not exist between them and that Octavian ensured the bond between them was strong.
While these words were genuine, he wouldn't deny there was another motive behind it all. He was a man of ambition and though he advanced himself mostly through battle and victory, he'd occasionally seek it through other means. In this case, by providing such consul, perhaps he could fall into greater graces with the new Emperor and this new era. But it wouldn't matter for the time being. He took a knee with the others as oaths were given. He wouldn't hesitate to stand against the boy if he proved to be a weak and incompetent leader. After all, he had left the CSA for the Diarchy without a second thought. If anything, he wouldn’t stab the man in the back. He’d at least make it known he’d turn to the other side and that their next encounter he would bring all to bear against him. But for now, he would trust in the choice of Nicademus.--
