A notification alert appeared on the comm link system of Kaalin Karr. It wasn't obvious how she got it, but it would seem she had found the comm frequency records in the Mand'alor's office somehow. The notification was fairly brief, but still detailed enough to limit the number of questions that would be needed to asked. If accepted, she was asking that Clan Karr travel to all the various nearby core worlds of the Mandalorian Assembly. While doing so, they would need to take stock of the local defenses, including numbers, common types & condition of the gear being used, & any fixed defensive installations. They should also be on the lookout for any spies or informants that might have been dispatched to gather intel on the MA.

Aya nods, she had reviewed similar tables that her own intel people had gathered. The chiss version was a little different but close enough to her own people's estimates. She was a bit surprised the Chiss would be willing to be friendly with the First Order, but if she was perfectly honest, she wouldn't mind the same. Assuming she could ensure they wouldn't be a threat later.
-Aya That is understood. The two of us alone couldn't face down the First Order, even together. On the other hand, we need to be out from under their thumb. Perhaps not immediately, but the sooner we can manage some level of independence, the better. Even if it is just enough that we would put up more fight than it would be worth to conquer us.
She tried to think of a way to convince the Chiss of she point, without making him have to abandon his own stance.
-Aya We could easily word it so that most would think it is a joint defense treaty against threats from the Unknown Regions. After all, that is how our people originally became allies. It would allow us to stay at least friendly with the First Order, until they decide that one of us is the next thing on the menu.

She paused on her way out the door. Her own helmet still in her hands.
-Aya Nearby, just in case I screw up badly enough to need removing. You are the only one that stood against me, so you are the only one I will trust with that job. After I meet with the Itera clan, we will be able to talk more. For now, excuse me please.

Seeing that he was blunt & straight to the point, Aya decided to follow suit. The desk had been the first to be cleared, so for once in generations it was completely bare. She silently scatters a fistful of objects on the desk. They were wildly varied. Present were coins, chips, scripts of paper, along with a few more esoteric items. All had one thing in common. They were all technically Mandalorian credits.
-Aya In short? Money. Our current system isn't sustainable. Ever since the fall of the Mandalorian Empire many clans print their own versions of the credits. Often as they need them. So far the Imperium's version of the credit has managed to keep the rest afloat. That is going to change. For a start, we need a national currency again. & for that, we will need someone running a national Mint. I want your clan to be in charge of that.
She sets a small projector on the desk & waves it active. Several potential currency examples appear above it, all have on thing in common, they are printed with a Mythosaur skull on one face & the broken symbol of a major faction from the last few hundred years on the other.
-Aya I am thinking we should call it the Mandalorian Skull, instead of the credit. That way individual clans can keep printing their own credits, but they will have to keep in mind an exchange rate will have to apply if they do that. Before you ask, yes that would apply to my own clan as well, though the rate would like be one to one as we already base our credit's value off the face price of the Nova Crystals. Eventually, other clans should be able to work their way up to the same level, though they will have other tasks to focus on in the short term.
She waves, as if gesturing smoke away. Having brought herself back on track, she finishes the proposition.
-Aya As for the make, we will stick with Nova Crystal. It is valuable & stable enough economically to function at face value anywhere in the galaxy & given the right tech, isn't too hard to produce. If your clan agrees, you will shortly be receiving a shipment of equipment & technicians to wherever you want it set up. You will be getting a crash course in Nova Crystals & the technology around them. Final designs will be up to you & your people, but should follow in this theme. At least for the first run. Reminding our people of all the factions we have outlasted with be a much needed morale booster & should help the Skulls catch on in the general population. After the first run gets us some traction, you can start issuing other designs, But I still want the Skull on the face. So, are you in?

She nods in understanding. It was a common theme in all the many states spawned from Palpatine's insane rise.
-Aya My own people would be no more loved. Probably less so as many of us lack the humanizing appearance the Chiss have. I fear that only our measure of distance keeps us safe even now. To be perfectly honest, this is the real reason I have come to visit in person. While the gift was a nice as I said, it alone would not have been enough to draw me out here in person.
She pauses, She isn't exactly certain how she want to proceed with her idea. It is a very rare circumstance for someone that thinks as quickly as a supercomputer.
-Aya In the past, our people have had very close ties. I would like to see that again. But I don't want it to include just our two people. I think we should reach out to other factions, both within & without the First Order, that would be particularly targeted. Obviously, we are no republic. But we might be able to pull off a very loose federation. A mutual pooling of our military strength, plus an increase in trade.
She tries to gather her thoughts but they are still rather jumbled. This is a half formed idea that was still taking shape as she spoke.
-Aya Each group would be otherwise free to do as they wish, as long as they support the others from outsider influence. Under the table at first. But we could move more openly once we have enough power that the First Order couldn't just wipe us out in one go.

She smiled at him. Her hands settled back to the arms of the chair as she hears the answer she had been hoping for. Or at least as much as could be expected from this early stage.
-Aya I must say I am relived to hear that. I personally feel much the same about the interactions between the Imperium & the Order. Even with our greater remove from them. Unfortunately, I am limited in my possible responses. Despite a continued effort by my propaganda Panel, we have not been able to bring public support for the First Order to less than sixty percent among Citizens.
She pauses a moment to school her features back into neutrality.
-Aya The First Order is a threat. They will continue until they have no enemies. Once they are alone at the top, they will turn on those beneath them. I, for one, will not allow my people to end in such a way.

She was unaware that that her next question was echoing something said just a short while ago in this very room.
-Aya What are your thoughts on being a satellite state of the First Order?
Hopefully, he would feel much as she did. That the First Order was a threat. Even to those people that were technically its allies. A power like the First Order was not built on tolerance & understanding of the cultures of others. Especially those radically different from their own.

Aya takes a seat in the offered chair. It was surprisingly comfortable for how plain it looked. But then again, it was a chiss design so perhaps it should not have been too surprising.
-Aya I do hope he didn't get too extravagant with the designs. He does excellent work, but he tends to get caught up in adding more & more flourishes to his designs. He isn't exactly the best conversationalist either, but we all have our flaws. Before we continue though, I do have a somewhat serious question. How secure is this room? Do you trust we can speak privately here?
Aya takes a moment to pick an imaginary piece of lint off her dress, but it is clear that Vlusu has her full attention. Depending on both his reaction & his actual answer, the conversation she is hoping to have could go in one of several directions.

-Aya Thank you. The perils of being considered important I'm afraid. It usually isn't worth all the effort, but sometimes you get something nice.
Having handed out what was a probably worthless bit of life advice, Aya proceeded into the meeting room. Tahu of course followed her in. This was more or less a private meeting, so Tahu would keep the the edges of the room. Close enough to see & make sure nothing unfortunate happened (to anyone in the room), but far enough away to at least pretend like she couldn't hear the conversation.
-Aya Greetings Grand Moff. I must say I am very impressed with the workman ship of the gift you sent me. It did however, have the effect of reminding me that I have been neglecting our people's long friendship since I have assumed power. Please forgive that oversight.

Aya was all smiles for the delegation. First off, it was generally a bad idea to be rude to the help. Second, she was actually rather enjoying the scenery. She hadn't ever visited the planet before. She would have to look into procuring a disguise at some point so that she could wander the city more freely.
-Aya Not a worry at all. I understand how things tend to creep up on people in leadership. Please, lead the way.
The two Mandalorians settled into the speeder. Tahu remained silent & hidden behind her helmet, but that was perfectly normal for the rather stoic woman. Aya on the other hand was perfectly willing to chat the trip away with anyone willing.

Shortly after the Captain finished his meeting with the Grand Moff, the next visitor arrived. The 'passenger liner' was directed to land in one of the standard pads. It was mostly used as a reroute for ships orbital control was annoyed with, due to its remote position. In this case however, that served Aya perfectly well. The out of the way nature of the pad made it extremely easy to bring the waiting repulsor car into one of the ships loading bays just long enough to board away from prying eyes. At the Moff's office, debarking would take place in a closed hanger.
Only two visitors exited the craft. The first was every inch the traditional mando image, though clad in powered armor. Tahu was the personal bodyguard of Imperator Aya. The second figure was Aya herself. In her usual fashion, she had foregone wearing armor while dealing with outsiders, with the exception of a discrete pair of shoulder guards & wrist protectors. Other than that armor, she wore an extremely light & billowing dress. Even for a cold world adapted race, that would be a challenging wear. Aya seemed to be perfectly comfortable & ignored the cold. Of course, it helped that she was wearing a small personal field generator on her belt that kept a shell of warm air close to her skin, in addition to its normal protective features. The duo would wait for further instruction by the vehicle. It was technically a personal visit, but Aya was more than happy to allow them any pomp they wished to impart.

Much like the GR75 hull that visited a few weeks earlier, this one was marked up in the standard paint job of the Imperium. While it lacked any features that would draw it out in particular, this one was carrying a very special module. Externally, it was identical to the standard passenger module. Internally was an entire different story. It was kitted out with extremely powerful shields as well as hidden weapons that could be run out into a forward firing position if needed. Those of course were just secondary additions though. The remaining space that wasn't devoted to the weapons & shields was a very finely fitted passenger quarters for a small group. This particular module was the private vessel for Aya D'Ordinii. Who happened to be the newest Mand'alor. With the sheer number of GR75 hulls running around, it made the ideal cover for slipping around effectively invisibly. Even if someone managed to tag the hull, the module itself could be handed off to a fresh hull within minutes.
Of course, this visit wasn't completely unplanned. Aya had made sure a private word had reached Vlusu in order to expedite a quiet arrival.
-GR75 Passenger liner 32001 requesting clearance for landing.
As they were long standing allies, though it had been some time since it had been officially renewed, it was not a very uncommon sight for the GR75 hulls to be seen over Csilla, either carrying cargo or passengers. Of course, it helped that the Imperium made an effort to run cargo & passenger services galaxy wide. It was both an excellent source of revenue & great PR.

=Mand'alor's Paperwork Woes== <<107PP; O7 Sector, Mandalore, Keldade, Oyu'baat, Mand'alor's Office>>
It was the first time she had actually ever set foot in the room that served as an unofficial office of state. In had served a surprisingly large number of Mand'alore over the years. It was also more or less like she expected. The bed that was the centerpiece in most of the other rented rooms had long since been cleared away. There was a small cot in the corner, but it was nearly an afterthought. A huge desk filled the center of the room, though it lacked any chairs. A random hodgepodge of tables, dressers, bookcases & other surfaces were shoved into the room wherever there was space. Covering absolutely everything in the room, including piles on the cot itself & on the floor, were piles of datacards, datapads, info slates & even a few moldering tomes.
It had been a very long time since there was a bookkeeper for a Mand'alor. Aya however, had an edge. First she was a mech, though not openly, so data was her first nature. Secondly, she had just gotten word that they had finished the translation project for the Imperium's holonet system. Several techs entered the room behind her. A space was cleared for a crate sized machine. This involved a lot of shoving things into the hallway for the moment.
The device itself was a bank of datacard slots & a holonet transceiver. Working quickly, the techs started dumping handfuls of the chips into a feeder slot in the top of the device. As each chip was copied into the holonet, it was neatly packed into a file box. As each file box filled, it would be replaced with a new one & the full one would be taken for physical archiving. The data itself would be handled by a fair sized chunk of the Imperium's holonet that had been set aside temporarily for this job. Most of the data would be hopelessly out of date or simple irrelevant by now. By some things would likely be important even still. Once everything had been sorted, identified & confirmed she would settle any issues that happened to be both outstanding & in need of her input. Just the downloading would likely take days, even with the device.
In the meanwhile, she would be waiting to see if the Itera clan was interested in her project.

With the last voice having spoken, rather dramatically (though she didn't have much room to talk given her own entrance), Aya nods respectfully to Orrick. Hopefully, he would stick around to be a general pain in everyone's rear. It would help to keep everyone on their toes & moving to have someone making a fuss.
-Aya Thank you, everyone. I must say it is refreshing to see the helm passed twice in a row without bloodshed. Hopefully, we can continue this new trend. I hereby take the title of Mand'alor the Bureaucrat. I don't plan on doing much leading, but I have a small mountain of paperwork stuffed into that desk in there.
This last was said jokingly, though it was fairly common knowledge that much of the opening of any new Mand'alor's reign was sorting through the paperwork of the last one.
-Aya One thing I know is outstanding is the matter of the mines in the process of being sold from myself personally to the position of Mand'alor. As some of you might realize, that puts me in the somewhat awkward position of owing myself money. In order to correct that issue, I hereby appoint the D'Ordinii delegation to oversee the liquidation the outstanding mines to any Mandalorian Clan. Without clause or condition. First come, first sold. Get them while they are going cheap folks.
She allowed the majority of the clans to move in that direction. After all it would be the first time in nearly sixty years that beskar would be legal to mine by people other than Clan Ordinii. Motioning to the Itera representative, she steps over to him.
-Aya I have a project I think you will excel at, if given the chance. If interested, I will meet you shortly in the Mand'alor's office in the 'baat. If you don't show, I will assume you aren't interested & move to my second choice.
Without waiting for much in the way of a reply, Aya headed out. She had a brand new title & several tons worth of datacards to sort through.

Clan Ordo's question was a pointed one. One she had plenty of ammunition to reply to.
-Aya (in Mando'a) Sixty eight years ago, Clan D'Ordinii consisted of my father & less than a dozen of his closest supporters. Eighteen years after that, when I was born, the ranks of the clan had grown to thousands. By the time his body started to fail him from a genetic condition, forty years ago, millions had flocked to his banner. Over those decades, I grew under his support & testing. By the end of his life I ruled the clan in all but name. Last year, when the unfortunate assassination of my father succeeded, The clan was over six billion strong.
In truth, she had been more or less running the clan for the last thirty years, though always as her father's representative. It had well prepared her for ruling on her own, though she often found she missed the ability to resort to a higher authority if needed.
-Aya (in Mando'a) Even the smallest & most remote of the D'Ordinii colony ships has more economic, fabrication & agricultural power than most other clans. There are hundreds of thousands such ships wandering the stars this very moment. Nor does that take into account the vast military fleet, or the incredible number of support & infrastructure based craft controlled collectively by the clan. Or the nearly equally vast private fleets privately owned by citizens of the Clan.
She paused to let the full effect sink in. Despite its size, the Imperium rarely focused much material in any one spot in time. A safeguard against incurring heavy losses. However, that same practice meant that few outside the clan really knew the full scope of what she commanded.
-Aya (in Mando'a) That is my plan. To bring that same kind of growth & prowess to every clan. The evidence of what I say is already in front of you. Or have you all forgotten the fleet gifted to the last Mand'alor? Or how a Clan factory ship leveled a mountain on Concordia to clean out a nest of Death Watch scum. For the elders among you. Have you forgotten the days when I was a child? Have you forgotten how the fleets of my father guarded the borders Mandalorian Empire against Jedi, Sith, Republic & Imperial battlefleets? Have you forgotten Ossus? Have you forgotten Concord Dawn? Yavin IV? Ordo? Kamino? Eridu? Mandayaim herself? Has the blood we shed to water the fields meant so little that it passed from memory within a single lifetime?

Aya nods, it was a fair question. One that would also likely swing the undecided members one way or another.
-Aya (in Mando'a) You are correct Torin. The bloodiest hand is rarely the most suited to rule. But it has been that way in our halls for an unfortunately long time. My plan is simple. Too long the clans have been separate, minding their own business in their own little corner of the galaxy. My clan is no less guilty. The Architect showed us there was more. He showed us what it was like to be unified again. I, personally, am unwilling to let that slip away just because one hot headed warlord destroyed an artifact.
She takes a moment to look at the mask she was still carrying, before placing it on one of the nearby tables.
-Aya (in Mando'a) Or at least tried to it seems. My plan is to continue what the Architect started. Build up the clans in both resources & connections. To increase our connections so that we no longer face what the universe throws at us as individual clans, but as one people.
She turns to Orrick addressing the last directly to him & him alone. She was standing close enough to him that she was certain few, if any would overhear her.
-Aya (in Mando'a) I wouldn't have killed you, even if it had come down to a challenge. I figure I could choke you out long enough for you to eventually yield. You lead a proud clan, & I can respect that. But it is also a small clan. My father required me to work my way up in power from the lowest ranks in my clan. I understand the challenges & problems faced at many different levels of command. There is a vast difference between commanding a few hundred beings & commanding billions. I mean no offense. But, you are untested, & we can't afford that right now.

It seemed that the representative from Ordo had nothing much to say. With the open support of the Fett & Bralor clans & the rest being neutral, that accounted for everyone.
-Aya It would seem that the only open support is leaning my way, friend. So how about it? I would prefer not having to kill you. There would be no shame in back out now. I would still welcome your advice, of course. A dissenting voice of reason is a valuable thing.
She was, of course, being sincere. It would be a loss to have to kill someone that had already proved themselves worthy of leading a clan. Even if she didn't have any real personal information about him. As for killing him, if I came down to it, she had no doubt that between her body that had been designed for rapid & brutal assassinations & the powered armor that enhanced her even further, the only possible result of a fight would be his death.

Aya nods in a friendly manner to Orrick. She had not met him personally, but she liked to keep as up to date on the various factions of the Assembly as possible. Unfortunately, in this case that was mostly hear-say & rumor, but even so he seemed an honorable enough soul. Truth be told, she was more happy as a second, as a powerful lieutenant, instead of the main ruler. Her command of the Imperium, however, had taught her that role though. As well as the need to own up to responsibility one may have. Since she didn't know Orrick's qualifications well enough, she had to persist under the assumption that he wasn't cut out for rule. If he beat her, of course, she would do what she could to make sure he did the best job possible. Just as she had with Damocles.
-Aya Oya, vode. You have steel if nothing else. First, let's see if anyone else is willing to drop their hat in the ring for the bone paperweight. After that, we will decide how we want to settle this.
Awaud & Or'dinii each obviously supported their own claims. Bralor seemed to be leaning toward Clan Or'dinii. While Itera seemed not to care either way. That left the Ordo, Fett, & Karr clans to speak up.

Aya had timed it perfectly. With any luck, no one had yet marked her absence from Lehon, let alone her rapid travel halfway across the galaxy. As 21 retook his seat, Aya marched into the hall. She was wearing the same, subdued suit of low-profile power armor she always wore in more practical settings. The fancy suits & trimmings she used to impress the aruetii would have had a negative effect in this crowd. Walking steadily toward the middle of the hall, she holds up the relatively small bone disc that had been tucked away in clan archives for long decades, ever since an archeologist had found it during her father's rule.
-Aya By the true mask of Mand'alor, Aya Dizen Or'dinii of Clan D'Ordinii claims the title of Mand'alor. Does anyone else here claim that title?
As far as she (and her father before her) were able to tell, it actually was the mask. Every test they could run matched exactly what it would for the genuine article. She would have loved to do a similar set of tests on the one found by Damocles, but that was impossible now. Even visually, it was a perfect match for the one that had been destroyed by the warlord that would not be named. Since the discovery of this one, three more had been found at various ancient mandalorian battle sites. All of them passing the same set of test. It would seem that several were made at the same time & likely by the same person. Not that Aya had any plan to share that info. She would, however, freely share the test results for this particular mask.

With a shrug, Aya matched the growing pot. She doubted anyone could beat the hand of 21 she still had locked in. Of course her latest credit in the pot meant that there were now 12 credits sitting on the table. Of course, they were a mix of the Nova Crystal cut Mandalorian Credits & the rather less valuable (at least this far out) Galactic Alliance credits.
Tahu watched at her held card flickered & changed to a 3 of Sabres. That brought her hand up to a total of 21. A long work history of keeping a straight face betrayed nothing as she slipped her last card into the hold field, along with a match to the raise. Now both her & Aya were waiting for the rest to either fold or lock in their cards.
