She had spotted the old face (for lack of a better term) in the crowd well before now, but didn't expect Damocles to take another turn with the helm. He was a solid & respectable figure of authority. Something that had become rare in the highest levels of Mandalorian politics, such as they were. The other speaker was a new come that neither she nor her quickly checked records had any solid intel on. She managed to contain a snort of amusement at being listed as 'beloved'. Either he didn't pay much attention to politics, or he was trying to win favor points. Possibly he was just being polite though. If nothing else, he was a good speaker. But the lack of any real history or proof of his skills as a leader cast a doubt in her mind. Fortunately for him, it wouldn't be up to just her.
-Aya Damocles, Tor-Ellyas. You both are recognized as having made claim on the helm. Are there any others that seek the helm?
The question was likely a formality, as she didn't expect any others to step forward this moment. Though she could think of one or two others that might try anyway.

Dral listened intently to both Damocles and Tor as they made their bids for the Helm. He thought for a moment and when Aya asked if there were any others who sought the Helm, Dral stood and addressed the Assembly.
"Fellow Aliit'alore, I am but recently returned from a long exodus which began during the height of the Mandalorian Empire. My clan fled the persecution of the anti-force Empire. I remember the days when we held many sectors with pride, and I am stirred by our vod Tor's words. The current state of the Mando'ade across the galaxy is rather static. I am not suggesting a return to the days of the Mandalorian Empire, nor to its ever-expanding borders. Rather, I suggest that we further solidify our current stance and perhaps expand to fit our numbers. Our borders ought to be clearly defined and vigorously defended, but we may well take some worlds for their economic value, or simply to allow our population to expand. Were we to expand too quickly or too far however we would stretch ourselves too thin, we should focus on strengthening ourselves in the Galaxy through our economy and trade, as well as with our blades. Too often we have been the warriors simply taking the side of whichever larger, or better paying, side sought our troops to wet the field of battle with our blood for their victory. While this will always have a place in our culture, and our coffers, our primary focus should be on our fellow Mando'ade. We have begun to head in this direction already, and I believe that it is the right path for our people."
Here Dral pauses with solemnity and gravity then with resolve continues.
"Therefore, I make my bid for the helm. If the Assembly sees fit to elect me, I will ensure to the best of my ability that Mandalore stands strong amidst the rest of the Galaxy."

Damocles remained silent as Tor-Illyas addressed the assembly, making a plea for the Helm of Mand'alor. The alitt'alor of Kryze was young and fresh faced, certainly a good choice if he was chosen. But he did not move Damocles to renounce his claim to the Helm. But then Dral rose and put his name forth for consideration. While he was not particularly familiar with the aliit'alor of Marev, it provided at least some competition and choice for the Helm. Once Dral finished speaking, Damocles stepped forward once more With both Kryze and Marev to take the Helm, I would like to withdraw my name from consideration and officially place my support with Marev... With that, Damocles retook his seat to watch and see what would happen next

Vera watched from the back with many other neophytes, far more content to watch and let the Fett clan leader speak for her in most matters. She watched with anticipation as several clan leaders put forward their names for Mandalore. She knew at least one of them personally, the others she had only heard of. But when Damocles withdrew his name, Vera grimaced, as she only knew of these other two, what they had said in this Assembly. All the same, it would be exciting to see how this turned out.

You wish us to become moisture farmers and spice traders? That's where you will take us. I will not commit the same mistakes of my forebear, the duchess"
Said Tor, brazenly. "Stil..."He smiled. "Most of your so self-proclaimed suggestions are just slightly re-phrasing my own, vod Dral. Complaining about us serving in others' wars, taking productive worlds, defending our borders... Maybe, just maybe you should instead do the most productive thing and yield to my claim. He produces a holodisk that he throws into the middle of the assembly. What looks like a new Basilisk war machine is projected. "I present you a new Basilisk fighter, one to carry our Mandalorian brothers to battle! We shall rule and claim what is ours, with new weapons of war like these! With the strenght of our arms! The time to plough the fields and bargain for what is ours is done, that belongs to the past, not the present and now. We had... enough!"

The time to plough the fields and bargain for what is ours is done, that belongs to the past, not the present and now. We had... enough!" Such fire. Dral thought. He will either lead us to glory or oblivion. Dral thought back on everything that the young mando had said here at the Assembly. Dral only met the younger Mandalorian when he introduced himself to the Assembly. Gar jorhaa'ir pirusti evaar'ika Tor. Dral let his words hang in the air a moment. It was an insult, meant to bring the young man down a peg, but no more. Dral was confused about something the man had said though. You misunderstand me vod'ika. I will happily join my clan and the rest of the clans in battle. Including you evaar'ika. You were right about one thing though, I am about twice your age. But like you said, what matters age while the arm is strong and the will unbreakable?
I do look forward to seeing your new bes'uliike on the battlefield. I will happily purchase several for my own warriors when you have them available for purchase. Dral brought out a holoprojector of his own and activated it placing it on the table. The projection showed several massive trees. As they watched, the trees branches and roots melded together and formed pathways and platforms. As we speak, my daughter is on Kashyyk acquiring a large number of these sapplings which we will be able to plant here on Mandalore to revitalize areas which have been decimated by war. In addition to this the trees meld together their branches and roots to form the wookies' villages. We can do the same. And with proper application of the Force, these trees can be grown exceptionally quickly. We can use this as a viable housing and building source.
I have no fear of battle. I rather enjoy it. But if we can gain new allies rather than merely conquering a people, I believe that is the wiser course of action.

"You literally want to become a gardener of extraordinary-sized trees. Do you want our fighters to cover the ground with fertilizer? Maybe we should use our vibroblades to trim down the branches that grow misshapen. And use our reservoir of tibanna to provide heating units for the sapplings?"
He laughed it off.
"Wookies can live literally elsewhere and seem to be unbothered by the fact. Also, you might not know, but introducing foreign species in another planet can have dire ecological consequences; not that our climate is like Kashyyyk's. Maybe, your attempts at landscaping will fall short when our less humid weather ends killing the trees. Or, maybe, you will foolhardily kill a dozen local species, provoke an ecologic catastrophe or leave a huge area infertile. We have dozens of our own tree species to repopulate with native vegetation whatever are is in need of it"
He crosses hands.
"Plus, Kashyyyk is in the hands of the Hutts, have you considered that?"
The eyes of Tor look at the older Mandalorian with scorn.
"Mandalor the Gardener. Excellent leader for a new age of MandalGardening Incorporated. While you plow and toil the ground, water the trees and such... everyone else could do something more useful, like winning wars?"

Galaar's eyebrow visibly twitches before he abruptly rises. His eyes fixated between Dral and Tor.
Enough of this! We are not Senators of a decadent Republic, we are Mandalorians! And I will not stand for this!
The Fett bellows, having heard enough. He then turns to Tor.
A Mandalorian can be a farmer and a warrior, Tor of Clan Kryze. One of our greatest warriors, Jango Fett, Mandalore during the Civil War, was born into a farming family on Concord Dawn and rose to become a great model of a warrior.
Galaar turns to those assembled, speaking to all this time.
Jango Fett, and many more, prove that being a farmer doesn't make you less of a warrior... it enhances your character!
Galaar slams his fist against his beskar.
You ensure your crop survives just as you do your best to see your warriors live through battle. You ensure they are fed and nourished just as you aid your comrades on the field. You work in the greatest of heat and the harshest of suns, for the sake of your crop, just as you stand shoulder to shoulder with your brothers and sisters through the hardest of battles!
The Fett turns back to the Mandalorians who claimed the helm. Then his eyes became fixated on Tor.
On Concord Dawn, there are many Mandalorians who work on farms and grew up on them. Their children help them in those fields, daily. All of them good warriors that serve within my clan's forces, the Protectors, the Journeymen, and more. Centuries of families have held those lands since we came to that world and cultivated that land... to insult a farmer's background, and intentions, is to insult a whole planet! My home! My kin!
Galaar sits down, still angry as ever. He was not at all happy with the words spoken by the claimants.
Remember that. We are Mandalorians... for everything we do is for Mandalore. Whether its fighting for our clan, building ships, or, even, growing crops.

"I don't insult you, I insult those who are unable to see beyond their nose"
Said Tor. He considered plowing the fields an ignoble job for peasantry.
"And this is an assembly, it's made up for encounters of this kind. Bickering is at the center of politics, after all"
He frowns.
"I guess you do support the claim of the would-be Mandalore the Gardener, then"

Galaar turns to Tor once more.
I have not made my decision. I think more carefully on such matters.
He gestures to both Dral and Tor.
Both of you represent the future course of the Assembly as Mandalore. Both have your strengths and flaws. Both of your abilities and inabilities. Such things require thorough thought. I will choose my candidate carefully.
Fett wanted to hear more, but less of the insults.
You still insult him as 'the gardener' and there are plenty here who are farmers by birth. With generations, before them, who have tilled fields and farmed crops. Even the respected Clan Bralor, known as reputable warriors due to the recent conflicts, farm the agri-world of Agamar in the Outer Rim. If I had been born on Concord Dawn, I would have certainly been born to a Mandalorian father who farmed lands there.
The Mandalorian looks at Tor once more.
I am merely cautioning your words. You may be insulting more than you believe you are.

The representative from Fett may not have made up his mind yet. But the so far silent representative from the Or'dinii clan had. Maybe it was because the mech could access & review data more efficiently & quickly. Maybe it was the support of the Ordo Clan, whom the Or'dinii had been leaning toward supporting himself. Most likely, it was simply the difference in experience & known ability.
- 21-35-28 Clan Or'dinii also support the claim of Mandalore the Gardener.
With this being stated, the mechanical mando inclines his head slightly in the direction of Dral. It was a sign of respect, & that no true insult was meant by the Or'dinii's choice of title.
- 21-35-28 Under his rule, I hope to see our people grow ever stronger. & if a few foreign weeds have to be pulled from our borders?
The joints of his hands creak ominously as the droid clenches a fist.
- 21-35-28 Then Or'dinii will the there to lend a hand.

"I yield my claim. All hail the Gardener"
Cheers.
"I hope to read a report on the status of the wroshyr trees very soon, Mandalor and see our wookie brothers thriving in peace and unity. I will spend a standard season in solitude in one of our moons, like a hermit of times past, reflecting on your decision and how to better contribute to our lifestyle"
Probably, he would discard beskar for the time being and plant his own Commenorian garden, attending to the aesthetic influences of Onderonian landscaping, with a hint of the good craft of the long dead gardeners of Bail Organa's court: his orangerie was famous along all the Hydian way.
"Your wisdom is plain to see, I was wrong to stand against it. I wish to return to simple times and shed my arrogance, brothers, thus I will plough the soil like a peasant in Concordia, feeding my own retainers with the sweat of my forehead and the work of my arms. How wrong was I to look for the stars when seemingly the solution was in the land we walk upon, that we tread every day"

Aya was actually somewhat surprised by Kryze's sudden withdraw from the debate. As well as the heaping piles of sarcasm that was his reply to the light chastisement for his careless insult. Regardless, the result was clearly in favor of Dral now. As he stood without opposition.

Tor-Ellyas storms out of the assembly without further ado, on his way out he steps on the holodisk he had produced and voluntarely breaks it with the spur-clad heel, hands resting on the belt where the blasters hung. The blue cold eyes of his mother shine with malice. He puts the helmet on and places the short cloak handed by a retainer over the shoulder, motioning and gesturing for the Kryze clansmen and clanswoman to leave the place, not letting the defeat soak their bones. The painted owls' eyes do not seem to be fixed on the new ruler of Mandalore as they leave the hall silently.

When he had withdrawn his name from consideration, he could not have foreseen the subsequent explosion of events that would follow. A quarrel of sorts broke out between the two prospective candidates. Kryze seemed intent on winning the Helm at any cost, even trying to insult Marev by styling him Mand'alor The Gardener. Marev seemed to bite back and remained diplomatic for the most part, while throwing insults of his own. These, arguably, were exchanges that were expected of Mandalorians. Ultimately however, Kryze did not do himself any favors by insulting a fairly central tenet of many a Clan's livelihood. Something Kryze perhaps seemed to realize when Clan D'Odinii added it's support alongside Clan Ordo's to Marev's Claim.
Damocles could only hope that the loss would give Tor-Illyas something to think about and improve upon should he ever consider making a claim for the helm in the future. Mandalorians may be warriors, but to view their people as little more than just warriors was short sighted. They were families, farmers, smiths, crafts people, and so much more. At the end of the day, the Aliit'alor would decide the fate of their people and not any one Mand'alor. Ashrah and his predecessors in the Mandalorian Empire had shown the ruin that could be brought upon their people when placing power in the hands of one person.
With Tor-Illyas and his Clan marching out, somewhat petulantly, the opportunity to council and perhaps help mentor his fellow Aliit'alor was lost. He just hoped the boy realized that there was indeed still chances to act independently and perhaps prove the advantages of his way of thinking, instead of acting rashly. But he had seen the same fire in many a Vod before. Kaine had been burning with it the day he had entered these halls and challenged Damocles over letting the Vong go peacefully. There was little else in the hearts of such men but conquest and war to the exclusion of all else. It was self destructive, and Clan Australis had paid the price for Kaine's self-destructive ways. Just as the Mandalorian people had suffered and paid the price for Ashrah's damned war against all Force Users. They were strong warriors, but their enemies numbers were far greater than anything they could match with skill alone

Dral inclined his head to the former Mandalore at her proclamation. He was a bit stunned. Events had transpired rather quickly just now. He had expected a little bit more before the Assembly voted, and now there was no need for a vote. With no other claims made for the helm and with the backing of three different clans, it seemed to be over. Dral grinned wryly at the moniker he had been given Mandalore the Gardener. It wasn't one he would have picked personally, but even when the young Kryze had used it mockingly, Dral had thought that there were worse names he could have been given. Dral's grin turned to a grimace. He had hoped the young man would cede more calmly if it had come to that, although he hadn't been sure of success himself. Even though Dral had mocked the young man's superfluous speech, he recognized the young warrior's intelligence and drive. "I hope he doesn't let this poison his soul." Dral thought. "That bes'uliik design really would be a nice addition to the Mandalorian fleet." He hoped that the man still planned to bring the designs to Mandalmotors for production. Or even produce them within his own clan. Realizing that he had been silent for quite a while now, Dral raised his eyes and surveyed his fellow Aliit'alore.
"Well then." Dral turned to face Galaar. "Aliit'alore Fett, if you need anything from me in regards to the Mandalorian Defense Force, do not hesitate to ask. As I mentioned before, my clan will send over volunteers once they have finished re-establishing themselves around our enclave. I will begin to sift through my current force users to find those who would make the best instructors for the Mandalorian Knights. Those handpicked individuals will present themselves to you by the end of the week." Dral then addressed the rest of the Assembly. "Should anyone else have any issues or needs from me, just let me know. I will do what I can. Also, please spread the word within your clans of the Mandalorian Knights. There may be force users within your clans who have been hiding themselves away. Those individuals will be greatly appreciated additions to the ranks of the Mandalorian Knights." Dral grinned suddenly and attempted a bit of levity. "Also, please do ensure your crops are healthy. If you wish, we have several force users in Aliit Marev who are trained at ensuring healthy growth of plants."

MandalMotors Hall was as Kaine remembered it, in the city of Keldabe, a place for Mando'ade to meet and speak of affairs. It wasn't the building, so much as the history and traditions of their people, all tied up in a meeting place that wasn't the Oyu'baat. He had his own reasons for coming here, one of which was to let the other clan chieftains know of his intentions, so that Mando'ad had a chance to avoid fighting Mando'ad in an aruetiise's war, and to offer the resources of his aliit to those who might be in need. He was pleased at the state of Mandalore and the Sector as a whole, it seemed the current Mand'alor had done a fine job in maintaining the peace and prosperity that had been such a rare commodity in times past. Kaine respected results like that. The Australis Alor, in black and green beskar'gam, entered the Hall. There were a few Mando'ade lounging around, but the place wasn't full. Kaine went to a comm console on the side and set up the transmission to contact the Mand'alor and any Clan Chiefs known to be currently active in the galaxy for whom they had comm codes.::Pop in to the MandalMotors Hall in Keldabe or get your holo on. We need to talk. Alor Australis.:: The text message was succinct and to the point. Kaine could wait for the other alor'e to either arrive at the hall or holocomm in. If no one responded, Kaine would take that for tacit approval and assume nobody was going to object to anything later given that he'd come to inform them ahead of time of what was planned.Dral Marev Galaar Vhett Cuyan Skirata House of D'Ordinii
