Anya smiled as Gavin's hand ran along her head. It was just like when Ansha did it. It was comforting to her and made her feel cared for. It was a surprising thing, seeing how easily she was adapting to having someone there like this. Her hope now was that she wouldn't take it for granted and value every moment. Deep inside, her heart spoke a simple prayer to the spirits in hopes that she would stand strong in her desire to be a good daughter.
Following Gavin inside, her eyes moved quickly from one place to another. It was so beautiful in here. The sights held her attention that she didn't notice the wait, no matter how small it was. Sitting at a small table for two, she took the menu and looked it over, unsure of what to eat. When Gavin's words encouraged her to pick whatever her heart wished for, she became even more unsure. So many things sounded wonderful. When Gavin made his order, she opted for the same. Steak was always a safe choice and water was always good for the body. She handed the waiter her menu with a bright smile.
"I will have a nerf steak and water as well. Thank you."
Manners were taught to the children of the orphanage; it was an expression of respect to all around her. Despite how she was treated, she always tried to follow such an example. It was also why she spoke without contractions, speaking every word individually and completely. Each word bore a purpose so why not use them accordingly?

*Gavin watched as the waiter left before turning his eyes to Anya. Resting his elbows on the table, Gavin sat his head on his folded hands. Now was as good a time as any to start helping her understand things.*
"I guess I should go ahead and begin telling you about what you gift. First, I know the workers said they never told you, but do you know anything about your parents?"

Watching the waiter leave, she couldn't help but glance around at the other guests enjoying their meals. So many dishes looked extremely appetizing, making her mouth water. It was always so much easier when you were given a specific meal provided by the orphanage instead of having so many selections, most in which she had little to no clue about what they were. For now though, she could happily settle for the steak.
Her attention was quickly redirected to Gavin as he spoke of her gift. She leaned forward slightly, her little hands resting on the edge of the table. Excitement quickly faded, however, as he asked her about her parents. Her eyes fell, looking to the table as her hands found their way to her lap. A tiny ting of sadness fell over her. As Gavin had stated, she was never told, but she knew. She was a good listener and had over heard them before. Her breath was deep as she took it in before letting it out just as slowly.
"I know as much as they do. I was too young to remember anything about them, but I did over hear them talking about my family once. My father was a human from Naboo, my mother a member of the Konshi clan here on Kiffu. Deveron Namina and Mika Konshi were their names. I had felt excitement for a moment, finally knowing who they were. Perhaps I could have located them someday or maybe they would have come for me. But as I listened, I learned of their deaths, how they died. I should be happy knowing where I came from, but it only added to the sadness I felt."
It was in that moment, the words she spoke expressed her understanding, the intelligence she carried. She had seemed like another young child before, which she always tried to do, showing the same excitement as the others. But somehow, she had always been able to understand things at a level far beyond that of the other kids. At times, that fact alone made her feel different, though it was easy to overcome.
"Death happens; there is nothing that can change that fact. I only wish it had not been when I was so young; I want so much to know who I was, where I came from. With them gone, however, I may never know the truth."

*Gavin's heart went out to her. But he was rather surprised. She was saddened other the loss of her parents and what it led to, but she had an understanding about it and a control over the sadness that one her age wouldn't normally have. The workers had said she'd been an outcast for at least five years. Someone her age would have broken under that kind of loneliness and sadness. But here she was, still holding on.*
"I understand the pain of losing their family. But I can help you to understand who you are and where you came from. Your parents were good people, well respected. You were born into a good family. I know losing both of them hurts, sometimes love can do that. We can love that one person so much that even with a child, it is hard to move on. Unfortunately, feeling love to that degree while being unable to accept death can take its toll. I only hope that they find peace in the next life." *Gavin took a breath.* "I didn't know your parents personally, but I knew of them as do I know of the heritage that lies within you."

Her head lifted to meet his eyes. There was an uncertainty in her's, a disbelief to his words. He himself had faced the lose of his family? Such a thing didn't seem to be true, only a nightmare that was reserved for her. But as her gaze fixed upon his icy eyes, there was something, a faint shimmer of sadness. It was the same that she had seen in her own. Though it was hard to believe, his eyes spoke the truth of his words.
Though lost to the realm of death, to know her parents were good people and even more, were respected by others gave her a sense of relief. Though they had passed, she could believe that they didn't go with shame or disgust, but were possibly grieved over for the absence they created. While it gave her a moment of happiness, it did the same to bring her sadness. Good people had been taken out of this plane much sooner than they should have.
When he spoke of love and the danger that such a deep love held, her eyes saddened all the more. How could such a feeling, a feeling that was meant to be a bond between people hold such a danger? Could one really believe in love if such a reality existed? She could only imagine the hurt it would cause to watch one you loved pass from this world. But no, she couldn't let herself believe that. Love was something that gave such peace and relief, or so she had heard. Gavin had even said then that what caused such grief was that one couldn't accept the reality of death. So was it then that if someone understood that the one they loved could be taken at anytime, then that love was a good thing? Such logic only made sense.
When he spoke of knowing who her parents were and what her heritage was, her eyes lit up, if only a little. Once again, she found a sliver of disbelief in his words. How could he know so much about her? Heritage went back many of years, most of which were unknown. But his words were so sure when he spoke, a certainty that she didn't believe one could hold with such a claim. She could only listen and hear what he had to say.
"You know of my heritage? How is that possible? You may have known of my parents, but how can you know of all those that came before?"
The question raced within her mind, eager to hear his words. What was her heritage? Was it a good one, or perhaps a bad one. She desired to know whose blood ran within her veins, to whom she could claim herself a descendant. She didn't realize she was pushing closer into the table, pushing closer to him so as to hear each word clearly.

*Gavin nodded as he leaned back. He could easily imagine that his words were hard to believe. Of all the things he could explain to her, this would probably be the hardest for her to grasp.*
"Yes, it is something that one would wonder, but one thing you should know about me is that I've lived for a very long time. I may not look it, but I've watched your family line for some time, keeping tabs on your ancestors. Tell me, do you know of a woman by the name of Tyra Syen?"

Her head tilted in confusion when he spoke. Even had he been old, he would only have seen possibly her great grandparents at the most. But his appearance suggested his age was no where near said time. These words were definitely hard to understand as he held no true proof of his words. But for now, she merely pressed the thought aside as he asked his question.
The name held a small place in her mind. It was a story told through the years of a woman who showed her devotion to Kiffu, though she herself never was one of the people. She was quite famous, a woman many girls wished to be like. Tyra had set a foundation for future women to rise up and do their part for the people and the planet. But it had been over forty years since she died, fighting in a battle to protect Kiffu. It was her finally act of devotion to the people and the planet she loved.
"Tyra Syen was a strong warrior and a greatly respect woman. When the Kiffu Guardians were reformed over hundred and fifty years ago, she was the first Blade of the Guardians, the first second-in-command, though she was only sixteen. It was said that though she was not a Kiffar, she received clan markings of her own due to her devotion and love for the planet. She remained with the Guardians until she died over forty years ago. It was said that she died in a battle protecting the people from a powerful enemy. According to history files, the reason she had the strength and understanding to be a Guardian was because of her master, though his name is unknown."
She was curious as to what Tyra had to do with anything. Was Gavin testing her knowledge? Even if that were true, of all things why ask her about this particular women. As she looked at him, her head straightened and eyes slowly widened. Her mind began to piece together each thought, slowly forming the realization. But it couldn't be true. Of all people, how could she, the little orphan, be related to such a highly respected and important woman?

*Gavin nodded, a smirk growing on his face.*
"Yes, Anya. I must admit, your ability to understand and catch on to things is at a high level, especially for one your age. You are a descendant of Tyra Syen. More so, of Tyra and Balian Phoenix. First of all, the power you felt building in you is the Force. You have a strong connection that allows you to use it. Without any understanding of it, it has only responded to your emotions. This in itself is a gift. But for you, it goes even deeper. The reason your eyes change is because of your connection to the darkness. The emotions that are strong enough to bring out the Force are tied to your darkness. This is something that has been passed to you. Tyra was affected by a poison the Sith made when she was young. It kept her locked in darkness. She was healed but the darkness would always be apart of her. I guess it affected so much that it became apart of her genetics and has finally took shape in you. Your eyes when they change are the same as hers. And Balian had a strong connection to the Dark-side, though his was something beyond his control. I know this because I was the one who trained Tyra, and Balian was my nephew."

As Gavin finished saying his piece, her breath became heavy. She didn't know what to think of the information that had just been laid before her. Those few words felt as if a lifetime of information had just been crammed into her head. She couldn't process it. She looked to the table, her hands gripping her head. She had to think, had to unravel the words and slowly reconnect them within her mind.
By his words, it was true. She truly was a descendant of a great woman, a respected Guardian. She had heard of Balian, too, though none ever seemed to focus upon the two as a couple so much as their individual deeds. Balian Phoenix, a pure-blooded Kiffar adopted by Falcor and Akire Phoenix, was best know for his deeds amongst the Jedi. To think that she was a descendant of these two great people, the thought made her heart flutter. If only she had known before, maybe the other children wouldn't have acted as they had. But truth be told, they wouldn't have believed it. Even she didn't fully believe it.
Next was that she was a Force-sensitive. As she thought about it, it all began to make sense. The feelings that built up within her, even the sensation she gained from Gavin's appearance became clear. It was as if a fog had clouded her vision until he came to blow it all away. She had heard stories of the Jedi, even the Kiffu Guardians that still existed had a few who could use the Force. Ansha was right. To possess such an ability as to use the Force truly was a gift.
Though not as pleasing, the tie that was made between the Force and her emotions. It was the trigger for her. She hoped that this wouldn't be what allowed her usage of such a power, but Gavin expressed that it was merely a lack of understanding. Perhaps she could use it for something far greater. The darkness she possessed was also something she had inherited. Between both Balian and Tyra, the power of the Dark-side was strong within her. This realization scared her. If she gave into her emotions, she could hurt so many people; she could have done much worse than she did to the other children. She was only thankful her power never grew strong enough.
"If the darkness in me is strong because of Balian and Tyra, why has it not done worse?"
Then the final truth she found hard to believe. Gavin had been Tyra's master, the very one who trained her and helped her to be the great woman she was. There was already so much information in which she had to process, but this final bit became the icing on the cake. With a shake of her head, she tried to focus her thoughts.
"You really were the one to train, Tyra? And you were Balian's uncle? How is that possible?"

*Gavin listened to her questions, each of them a good one. Leaning back, he thought on each of them.*
"It is true that the darkness in you is strong, and based on what I've heard about your hardships, one would imagine it taking over. But when it comes to Balian's aspect, I don't think the darkness becomes uncontrollable for you. But as to why it has never truly taken over is because I believe you have a stronger heart than you realize. Something has been continuing to guide you, keep your darkness in check. As for the possibility of my age, I am half Kiffar. The other half allows me a longer and younger life. In time, I will tell you about me so that these things make more sense."

A stronger heart, something that guides and keeps the darkness in check. Did she truly possess such a thing. She dove into the depths of her memory, looking back to all the times she felt sadness and anger. When those times arose, what kept things from getting out of control? Perhaps her wishes and hopes for something better gave birth to her strength? But that alone wasn't enough; it couldn't be. She thought more, reflecting on the words of Ansha. Yes, every time something seemed to become too great to bear, Ansha was always there, comforting and believing in her. It wasn't just her own heart that continued to push alone, but the strength of another giving her a reason to believe and carry on.
"Mrs. Ansha was always there, always comforting and encouraging me. Through that, I could continue to hope and push through the hard times, no matter how great the sadness or anger." As these words came, something else flashed in her mind. There was one other. "There was also another. I always looked forward to the night because when I slept, there was someone waiting there. She was always smiling, and her embrace was warm. For the loneliness of the night, I was never truly alone."
She thought on his words, her head tilting ever so slightly. If he was half Kiffar, where were his clan markings? And what was his other heritage that allowed for such a life? So many questions, but he had said he'd explain in time. All she could do was be patient and believe him.

*Gavin listened to her, nodding. So there was someone pushing her to stay strong and in turn it fueled her own strength. It was a very good start. BUt what he became curious about now was the person in her dreams.*
"Tell me a bit about this woman in your dreams. What did she look like?"

Closing her eyes, Anya tried to imagine the woman that always waited there in her dreams. It took a moment, but she slowly took form. She couldn't help but feel the same peace and warmth she did every night she was in her embrace. Just the sight of her made Anya want to run to her and hold her tight. She took in the appearance the woman held, marking each little detail in her mind. She didn't know what good it would be to tell Gavin what she looked like, but he asked so she'd respectfully answer.
She noticed the markings first on her cheeks, brown angled marks that pointed down. Next was the shoulder length dirty blonde hair adorn with small shining clips. The smile was as it always had been, warm and welcoming. But something happened in that moment that hadn't before. The woman opened her eyes. Never once had her eyes been open, or at least, not while Anya was looking. They were so different than most. Upon closer inspection, her eyes looked exactly like Anya's when they changed. She didn't know what to think of it, the only thing emerging in her mind was Gavin claim about how her's and Tyra's eyes had been the same like that. Shaking her head, she opened her eyes and looked upon Gavin.
"The woman was beautiful, her smile was warm and full of life. She had blonde hair, slightly brown that fell to her shoulders and small clips were in it as well. She had tattoos, I guess; they were on her cheeks like small triangles pointing down, only it did not have a third line to finish it. And her eyes, they were red and yellow, just like mine when they change."
She wanted to say more, but the words no longer came. After what Gavin had said thus far, a familiar feeling settled on her about the woman. But she waited, wanting to know Gavin's thoughts, hoping that perhaps, in some miracle, he'd know who she was.

*Gavin listened to the description. It did sound familiar. He was almost certain of it. Pulling out a small disk, he pressed a button and an image of a woman appeared. She was dressed in an black and blue top and black pants, a purple styled shirt wrapped around her neck. Holding it up closer to Anya, he looked to her.*
"Is this the woman you see?"

Anya gazed upon the projection with wondering eyes. Her hand reached out, as if to stroke it like one would a doll, though she stopped a bit away from it. The image of the woman it captured was incredibly beautiful. Taking in the details, everything began to fit together. She fell in love with the outfit, a top of black down the sides and a sapphire center, turquoise strands zigzagging down from her chest to flow off to her right side. The purple top that embraced her neck and the deep brown cloak that covered her. Black leather pants and black boots only seemed to give the colors extra life, making her want a set of clothes like that.
Pulling away from the attire, she focused upon the face. It was there, every detail she had seen in her dreams lay upon this woman's features. It felt so strange, seeing her with waking eyes, realizing that she wasn't part of her imagination, but someone who was real. She looked to Gavin, eyes shining.
"That..that is her!" She couldn't hold back the excitement. Her mind begged to know who she was, desired to understand the identity of the woman who always appeared in her dreams. "Who is she?"

*Gavin smiled as she confirmed it.*
"It seems the one who's been watching over you in your dreams was Tyra herself."
*Turning off the projector, he handed it to Anya.* "Hold onto it for now. But there's something more I'd like to help you with. I can train you the way I did Tyra, or at least teach you the basics of what you can do. This will be your choice, however. Whatever your choice I'll still be there like a father to take care of you." *Gavin noticed their steaks coming out.* "Don't answer yet, but think about it."
*When the steak arrived Gavin wasted no time in digging in.*

Could it be, all this time Tyra herself had some how been watching over her? But how could it be? She had been dead for some time, so there was no way she could have known that Anya would have even come into existence. Then again, Tyra had supposedly been trained by Gavin, and despite whether it was truth or not didn't matter. She had been trained beyond most, so the ability she truly had could have been beyond imagination.
With a shaky hand, she took hold of the disk Gavin handed to her. Now she could see this woman at anytime, anytime she may feel alone and know, that not only was she a descendant, but she was being watched over by Tyra. It gave her a sense of pride that she was related to someone as great as her. Her first day away from the orphanage came with such excitement and knowledge she couldn't begin to fathom. It was all too good to be true.
Now Gavin was here, giving her the same opportunity to train as Tyra had. However, it was said that the training she endured was excruciating and intense. She didn't know if she could handle such a thing. She was only thankful that he was giving her that choice and allowing her to think it over. And no matter the choice, he would continue to care for her like a father. At least she'd still have that, no matter what.
Her attention turned to the waiter as he set the steak in front of her. The conversation thus far had distracted her from hunger, but as soon as the steak was set before her and its delicious aroma filled her nostrils, the only thing that held her attention was her rumbling stomach. Picking up her silverware, she began to eat, chewing slowly, savoring every last bite as it overflowed her taste buds with tenderness and savory flavor. Tomorrow would come and she'd think further on the offer Gavin presented her with. Until then, she could only enjoy the time she was building as a newly found daughter.

*Gavin enjoyed the time eating with another, one that he could come to call his daughter. After the meal, Gavin paid for the meal and led them on through the streets. It was starting to get late and he figured it would be good to find a place for the night. He planned to stay on Kiffu for a while, he had no where else to be. It would also allow Anya to choose what she wished to do. Finding a suitable hotel, Gavin led them inside and paid for a week's worth of a stay.
Once inside he set Anya's bag in the bed and looked to her.* "Go ahead and get a shower. It's late. I haven't seen Kiffu in some time. Perhaps you could give me a little tour in the morning."

She couldn't remember the last time she had enjoyed such a meal. The food they received at the orphanage wasn't bad, but nothing compared to such a finely prepared dish. Even the water seemed to taste far cleaner and much more refreshing. Each bite was like heaven inside her mouth. It took a little time, but soon the steak had been finished and she felt completely satisfied. She was glad for it for there was no telling the next time she'd have such a meal. With that, she hoped that Gavin did well at cooking a meal.
Once they were done with their meal, Anya took Gavin's hand and let him lead her on. She began to wonder where he lived and what kind of place it was. Perhaps it was a fancy house, maybe it was rundown. Was that something she'd like? She knew that she should be happy just to have a family. She didn't even know if she'd have a mother; in fact, there were so many questions she had, things she had hoped he would have told her instead of what he did. Maybe he had no one else, meaning it was only him to raise her. It made her sad to dwell upon the thought of only having a father, but she tried to focus on the positive of it all.
As they left the restaurant, she noticed the sky slowly changing color. Night was already setting in, casting the sky in wonderful shades of orange. It was always the same sky she saw, but for some reason or another, it seemed completely different, better. She took a deep breath as she started to skip along in step with Gavin.
She was surprised to see that they were stopping at a hotel. Maybe where he lived was far away and would take some time to arrive. It confused her more when he reserved the room for a week. All these thoughts were pushed aside as she began to yawn, following Gavin up to the room. She didn't argue when he told her to get a shower and prepare for bed. It had been a great and exciting day. Retrieving a sleeping gown from the suitcase, she moved to the refresher, stopping in the doorway.
"I really do not know that much about this city. I guess we will have to learn together."
She offered a smile as she closed the door behind her. Turning the water on, she allowed the room to steam up as she stripped from her clothes. Stepping into the warm flowing water, all thoughts left her mind as she became relaxed. Minutes passed as she cleaned herself, getting out nearly ten minutes later. Drying herself, she gazed upon her reflection in the mirror. There was something different in her looks, mostly her eyes. A shine existed that she never saw before. Yes, this would be the beginning to something great.
Exiting the refresher in her sleeping gown, she let Gavin led her into bed and tuck her in. The older children were always left to tuck in themselves; it felt nice to received even just a little attention like this. With a smile, she looked up to him.
"Thank you for adopting me and for wanting to take care of me. Thank you for everything that you have taught me today." As her eyes began to fall, her smile grew just a little bit as she spoke a final word before fading into her sleep. "Father."

*Gavin smiled as she faded into sleep. He liked being called that, more than anything. He rubbed her head before kissing it lightly. With a final glance he grabbed a quick shower himself before laying in the bed across from her. He simply watched her as he fell into a deep sleep.*
